All-Star Sports on Priceline for $36?

I noticed that priceline has the Walt Disney World Swan listed under "resorts". Has anyone ever bid on a resort class room on Priceline and received the Swan? Just wondering...

Its nice to see people doing constructive things to help other people on this board who may not know as much about PL as they do. Its easy to be selfish when you find a good way to save money. I'm sure that despite the semantics of one post or another, all intended help is appreciated by people like me. I myself have learned a lot from work done by others here (like you)and intuitively know better than to take every little bit of information on here at face value. Just like most intelligent people I take the time to learn as much as possible about any deal, strategy,... before trying it out. Thanks again for ANY information or advice you might be able to give to steer us in the right direction. :cheer2:

The exact word I am talking about is "increase" not odds or luck.. either way you cannot "increase" them.

I think the word "increase" was used to explain that you have a better shot at the room being available on Priceline if the resort isn't sold out. At least that's how I took it. If the resort is sold out, you can pretty much guarantee you won't be getting a room for those dates. If there seems to be wide open availability then you at least have a shot . . . might be a small shot, but better than trying for a sold out night.

Reason for me saying what I said was that not everyone will look at it that way. I just wanted everyone to be clear on it. Some people, new to PL (and even new to DIS), may not realize it.
The way someone interperts something can be totally different to another person. To avoid a conflict, you just do not use a certian word. As you can see, you are taking it as "a small shot", but someone else may not. They may think, oh... I am going to get it because it is there. There on posters that go onto the www.biddingfortravel site & actually think they can bid for a certian resort. I have seen it happen. There was no harm meant in my post.

I suggest anyone new to Priceline check out this site before you start your bidding. www.biddingfortravel.com Sheryl has many good & informative things on there in the Q & A section. Do not go onto that site & post as you do here. It isn't a "chat friendly" site. It is there to post what you have gotten & how you have gotten it. This site has what has been coming up & at what price (from what others post). It will give you a guide on what & how to go about Priceline.

I have went into biddingfortravel a few times and it is way too confusing for me!!!! :rotfl2: I understand the concept of bidding on priceline and got all the way to the cc part and chickened out...now I don't need anything until July 22 in Tennessee and July 23 in Orlando/Kissimmee before going to POP on July 24th for 10 nights which I would not try to change as I got a CM discount at 40% off. Just want to stay somewhere before,so am willing to take whatever for the night but just have to get the guts to do it!!! :rotfl2: When shud I try for those dates? I have seen a few times people saying they have only got dates to June. Thanks!!! :confused3

Thanks for your helpful posts Magnetic...
I think the word "increase" was used to explain that you have a better shot at the room being available on Priceline if the resort isn't sold out.

That's exactly what I meant. Before I booked our trip, I checked the dates both against Expedia, and also against the OTHER dates people who had been successful were booking their trips for. If you look at Carol's post elsewhere on the boards, you can see a pattern emerging as to the dates people are successful, and the dates they aren't. I used that information, coupled with the availability showing for those hotels on my dates, to "increase" my chance of possibly hitting a Disney hotel. And we did, between my mom and me, on 3 separate times with Priceline (6 if you count the additional nights' bookings offered by Priceline once we were successful with a Disney hotel.)

I realize not everyone is getting Disney bookings, and I realize that yes, there was a lot of luck involved for us as well. In talking to my mom while we did hers, I likened it to pulling a slot machine lever! You know you will "win" something, but you don't know quite what.

What advantage is there to checking on Expedia prior to bidding. They are different inventories so I don't see the relationship between them. :confused3

PL isn't like a consolidator that gets a block of rooms to sell. The hotel actually loads the rates and rooms into the GDS system and can adjust the rates and inventory at any time.

There are exceptions but in general you won't see PL having inventory if a hotel is sold out. A hotel that is selling out would normally pull rooms from the PL inventory so they can sell it themselves.

That said I don't know if Expedia has their own inventory or if they access the same block of rooms as Disney. I think the chances of getting the All-Stars on PL for a date that's sold out is slim to none but I don't know if Expedia is a good way to determine if the resort is sold out.

So I have 2 nights booked with AS Music under 2 separate ressies as I added the night. Do I need to check in and out twice? Or does Disney combine it all as ONE ressie?

since disney has never used priceline before - I don't think anyone can say....

most of the time disney tries not to move you - but as I say they have never used priceline before....

..but when people have called WDW to confirm their ressie or add ME, is it coming up under one ressie or two?

How can you see which hotels you may get if you bid?
Go to biddingfortravel.com and choose the "Orlando/Disney" section hotels under the Florida heading in the alphabetized states. Once there then select the Orlando Hotel List "sticky post (first one). It will have the hotels won in the past divided into areas (SeaWorld/Universal, Disney Area, Kissimmee etc.) and then broken down by star rating.

but when people have called WDW to confirm their ressie or add ME, is it coming up under one ressie or two?

Each booking with Priceline is a separate Disney reservation. On your Priceline receipt that you print, the "Hotel Confirmation Number" is your Disney confirmation number for that particular reservation, whether it's 1 night, 2, or more. But if you added more nights with Priceline's add a night offer, that addition to your reservation gets its own number.

Gotcha...I added a night so I have two separate numbers...actually I have four because I added a night to my Amerisuites ressie as well. Talk about confusing! LOL. I'm happy though...for $190 total I have 2 nights at AS and 2 nights at Amerisuites :thumbsup2

and unfortunately I got AmeriSuites. Poo. Oh well - I have 2 nights at AmeriSuites and then I have 5 nights at POR.

Anyone stay at AmeriSuites care to give me a report?

Thanks

Having compiled information from here and another board all day on this topic, here's how to stack best odds with Priceline in achieving Disney All-Star bookings:

Go to http://www.priceline.com

Click on "Hotels."

Click "Orlando" and choose dates for May/June 2006, and number of rooms.

(Note: If you are successful in booking,
Priceline will offer you the option to extend
your stay at the resort [usually proportionate
to the days you are booking - book 2, get offered 2
more, etc] so you can try booking less days than
you actually need. Be aware that you WILL be
charged for however many nights you book,
regardless of what hotel it chooses for you.)

Then, click "Next."

-----------------

On the next screen, click "Name Your Own Price" in the yellow box.

On the next screen, the headline reads "Select the areas where you want to stay."

Put a check in the box for "Disney World Vicinity" (and ONLY this box.)

Then, click "Next."

-----------------

Click the radio button for "2 1/2 star Moderate Plus"

Below that, in the yellow box for "Name Your Own Price" enter 36 (the site puts the .00 on for you)

Fill out the reservation name at the bottom, and click "Next."

-----------------

On the next screen, review your request to make sure it is accurate. Initial the Terms and Conditions box at the bottom, and click "Next."

-----------------

So far, on the boards, it seems about 3 out of every 4 people who are booking are ending up at All Star Music or Sports. The ones that aren't are going to the Nikki Bird Holiday Inn in Kissimmee, or Amerisuites Orlando Lake Buena Vista...

To stack the odds in favor of obtaining a Disney hotel, other board posters recommend going to Expedia, entering your dates in question, then checking availability at All Star Sports and Music for those dates. Expedia's database will show you current availability at the hotels. If your dates do not have red X's over them, they have vacancy, and there is a stronger possibility you will end up at the All Stars vs. somewhere else.

About me:

I actually have 4 different reservations for our trip (which until I read this thread this morning, was not even a figment in my mind!) covering May 29 - June 4. I made the first reservation for two nights, the 29th-30th, with the full intention of discarding it if I did not get a Disney hotel -- just decided to take the gamble!

After successfully receiving the All Star Music, Priceline asked if I would like to add 2 more nights to my stay - I said yes. This added another reservation through June 2. After checking flights (I told you, this was a brand-new trip not planned out before today!) and finding better airfares if we stayed through the weekend, I Pricelined again, for one night, June 2, knowing it would most likely ask if I wanted to add the second night on as well. Again, I received the All Star Music for June 2, and it asked if I would like to add another night on as well.

So that's how I did it - we are thrilled. We usually stay at Coronado Springs, but we weren't sure if we were wanted to spend the $ to do another Disney trip this year. Now we can :) Our daughter was quite surprised and thrilled to come home from school and find out we are headed to Disney a month from now!

Edit: Update...

Then, about an hour ago, my mom decided she wanted to go for 2 days coinciding with our trip (my parents will already be in FL on business.) We tried -again-, booking June 2 (and hoping to get it at the ASM like us, and then hoping also to add a day.) She got ASM for June 2, as well as the offer from Priceline to add an additional day, but when she then went to add June 1, it tried and came back and said ASM was full. Did we want to try another hotel in this category? Knowing we were risking ending up at the Holiday Inn or somewhere else, she went for it anyway -- and got All Star Sports. So, it has worked out very well for us.

Thank you to everyone who posted about this incredible price.

May your Disney days be cloudless and lines be non existent.

Thanks for the explicit instructions. We were going to drive up in the morning but will depart the evening before and spend more time on the grounds as a result! We'll hit the ASM for one night, then YCC early for the parks and pool until check in time.

I followed your post line per line and got the ASM for the ~47 total. Just wonderful. Yeah, I admit part of the thrill is the bargain... anyway, that night's a throwaway and it saves me a nice drive the next morning. Worth the risk of not getting one of the DAS hotels. :thumbsup2

I've checked my confirmation and it looks like I can extend it if I wanted to. That appears to be a nice standard option for anyone curious in the future.

Man, I love being cheap and getting an awesome deal. I remember paying rates in the $80s for the AS* resorts in the 90's when my wife and I started to go to Disney together.

Wow :cool1: this is great news about Disney rooms on PL. Let's hope this trend continues.

However I think the S/D used to show up on PL last year - but not since then.

It would also be fantastic if people who post thier successes would also post thier dates.
