All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

My son who was 7 at the time didn't complain one bit about the pull out couch.

Keep in mind...he was 7....

What is the difference between perferred and the family suite?

A preferred room is a standard room (has either a king size bed or two double beds) that is in a preferred building location which means the room is in a building that is closest to main building/food court and the bus stop. At AS Music these building locations are the Jazz Inn and Calypso buildings. The family suites at AS Music are former standard rooms in the preferred building locations that were converted to suites in 2006. The family suites are the size of two standard rooms (520 sq ft) and feature a living room area with a pull out double size sleeper sofa, twin size sleeper chair, and an ottoman that pulls out into a bed that is a little smaller than a twin size bed. The family suites also feature two bathrooms, a kitchenette with microwave, mini fridge, sink, and coffee maker, and the icing on the cake is the separate bedroom with a * queen * size bed. The family suites can accommodate up to six people and a baby under the age of 3. AS Music is the only value resort with family suites right now (the new Art of Animation Resort opening in 2012 will have family suites). None of the standard rooms at any of the value resorts, regardless if they are in a preferred building location or not, have a microwave, mini fridge, or coffee maker in the room. You can rent a mini fridge at the resorts for $10 plus tax per day. You cannot rent a microwave or coffeemaker at any of the resorts though.

Jazz is not a preferred building.....only Calypso.

OOooh Ok Because we booked a family suite for ASMu and I was afraid that even though we booked and payed for a family suite we might not get it, because we have 5 ppl so we need it. But now I see others where not talking about family suites they where talking about perferred rms, thankyou for clearing that up for me. I would be so lost with out the DIS boards and all of the members who help. Thank you to everyone!

How deep are all the pools at ASMu?

If I remember right, they start at 3 feet and go to about 5 feet. Both pools have a large shallow entry area with steps and there is a wading pool at the guitar pool.

Is it 3 feet just at the stairs or also a lil bit out from the stairs? Thank you for the help:)

There is a really large flat shallow area in the guitar pool by the stairs (the "bottom" of the guitar, not the neck). The piano pool shallow area doesn't go out as far, but it's still enough room for the short ones to play.

ok, thank you for the correction :thumbsup2

but the family suites are located in both the Calypso and Jazz Inn buildings though which is why mistakenly thought Jazz was preferred

It's very confusing, because I have been told by CM's at the reservation center that parts of Jazz are preferred. :goodvibes

I've heard that a few times. Last time we stayed there we were places way back in Country....I asked if we could be given a room in Jazz. The CM said that it was preferred and it would cost me extra for the 'upgrade'. I nicely told her that it was not preferred and that she might want to ask a manager. She came back and apologized saying that I was right.

This year I have already booked the preferred room....it'll come in handy for 2 weeks of hanging out at the pool with fruity drinks. :beach: :drinking1

I guess I should have done the same - asked her to check with the manager. I was told at checkin that I couldn't have Jazz and was put in Broadway. It wasn't that bad, but I have stayed in CF & BW 2x...I asked for Jazz or Rock and was not able to get it.

We took a walk around to take pics and I was really surprised at how close BW and CF really were. Now that said we usually stay for 10 days...or more if possible...and in the summer. So doing that walk in the August heat a few times a day for that length of time would not be fun. I would not be able to trick DH into the morning coffee run everyday staying back in one of those areas. :rotfl2: I know, for sure, I'm good with being in Calypso....I think I'll start the excuse list now.....

1. I'll do my hair while you get coffee
2. I'll tidy the room while you get coffee
3. I'll iron your shirt while you get coffee
:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Good idea to go with preferred. I asked for online checkin...they forgot to do it somehow. When I got there the only rooms left were in the back of CF or BW. It was a terribly long walk in the extreme August heat that they had in FL this year. It usually doesn't bother us - we are all able to walk with no problem...but that heat was unforgiving!!! :goodvibes

Couple ?s

1st... Has anyone ever decorated the room they where staying in, like lil mickey mouse shaped heads or window clings? I've read it on the boards here somewhere but wondered if anyone at ASMu did, If so I would love to hear about it or see pictures. Thanks

2nd... Is there a way to order a birthday cake and have it delivered to your room?

Sarah~

PS Thank you Danielle for your wonderful help.

We have not stayed here in a few years, but it looks like we will be at ASMu from 5/8-5/21. :thumbsup2
