Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Creativity:
  • Crayons, colored pencils, etc. - I've always loved coloring!
  • The people who make movies - One of my New Year's Resolutions (because some of them can just be fun!) is to watch more movies.
  • My computer - I love being able to design something, tweak it as much as I want, and then print it off when I'm ready.

Things to Wear:
  • Cuddly sweatshirts
  • Fun socks
  • Good boots - One Christmas, as an adult woman, I specifically asked for "boys boots" because I wanted warmth, not fashion!

1. My mum - my mum is the creative one in our family, and sadly not something I inherited! She's really arty and creative and seems to easily be able to make anything whether art, clothing adaptations or baking impressive cakes. I have fond memories of all the quirky cakes she made me as a child! And even as an adult I still go to her for all my creative needs... this is a cake she made for my 30th (my childhood ones were even better!):

See, now I want to hang out with your mom and talk cakes! I have stepped away from them quite a bit over the last few years but there was a time where I felt like a one-woman fondant factory. I had a small side business for a little while selling them but I found that I really just liked making them for family. Cute cake!!!

Things to wear...

Boots- I think I've expressed that I have a major love of footwear. Boots are some of my absolute favorites. I'm debating about what pair to wear today, but yesterday...I was in my Manitobah Mukluks. They are quite literally the warmest pair of footwear I own and unlike Uggs, they are functional. I got this pair before they stopped selling the crepe soles. It's a really interesting feeling taking these out on snow. Oh, and extra points for the swaying pom-poms as I walk.

Shacket- I love that plaid flannels have come back into fashion. It's major love for the early to mid 90s. The one I got is a heavier one that's fleece lined and it's pretty darn toasty. I layered up under it for my walk this morning and I've still got it on because I'm feeling chilly.

Coat- I too recently got a new North Face parka. It may be a bit much for the Houston area but it's warm and I'm going to be sitting outside for school ball a lot in the coming months. In fact, it's so warm that I can dress for fairly summery weather in it if I take it walking. We were around 28-29 a couple of weeks ago. I had a tank top underneath it and I was sweating like crazy. No layering needed. It's also got a ridiculously huge furry hood that makes me feel like I have a lion's mane. Extra points for that!

Things to wear:
Crocs- I have bad knees and ankles, and one very flat foot. Crocs are the only shoes I can wear that don't give me shooting pains thru my foot and up to my knees. I have orthotics in them... my feet are really a mess, and of course I look weird when I "dress up" but I have 3 pairs of sparkly crocs, so I do my best!

Leggings- I wear them at home all the time in the fall/spring/winter, and under my jeans to work. It's cold here, and the lab temps aren't warm (48F-51F, it's an old building with single pane windows that need to be reglazed) so I really need the extra layer.

Hoodies- I wear them all the time. It's cold at work, and given where we live and the cost of oil and gas, we don't keep the house particularly hot, either. Sixty is where our thermostat stays! We wear a lot of hoodies and fuzzy warm socks here!

3. My makeup -- just blush and MAC Studio Fix powder
I only discovered MAC Studio Fix powder a couple of years ago, after spending most of my life struggling with foundations that made me look horrendous or cakey. This stuff is brilliant and I wish I'd discovered it sooner!

Evening all,

1. My Oodies - not entirely sure if you have these and call them this in the States, but these are basically wearable blankets with hoods. They so cosy and warm, I have a few that I alternate between and live in over the winter months!

2. Leggings - another vote for leggings. I have so many pairs in different styles from fleece lined to gym leggings, none of which I could live without especially for walking.

3. Trousers that come in Long length - I'm not extremely tall, only 5ft7, but I have legs that are a little too long for standard length trousers without them looking ridiculous to me or unless I can get away with calling them ankle grazers. So I'm always grateful when I can buy trousers in a long length. Less shops than I'd like do this!
