All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Hi. Just make sure you ask for Calypso 1 (room numbers start with 1) and Jazz 2 (room numbers start with 2). You don't want Jazz 9 or Calypso 10 or you'll be next to All Star Movies. Looks like Homerun 8 is closest to those two. Here's a link to a map: http://www.allears.net/acc/asportsmap.jpg It shows all 3 All stars on the bottom and you can zoom in and see the distances and parking lots.

The parking lots all have crosswalks and it won't be hard at all to walk between the two if necessary. We were in Calypso 10 and our parking lot was Movies, Mighty Ducks section.

Have a great time.

Thanks for that great information will be sure to ask for Calyspo 1 or Jazz 2 I plan on calling each hotel and letting them know my delima also when it gets closer.

Are calypso 1 and 10 equidistant from the main building, or is one a better location than the other? I know they are both considered preferred. Thanks.

Does anyone know if we are allowed to invite a local couple to join us for the movie night at the pool. We are staying at Music but have a friend who lives in Orlando. We want to get together during the week we are there but they don't want to go into the parks. I thought the pool movie might be a fun way to visit and catch up. But I don't want to do anything wrong. I don't know if this is like pool hopping which is not allowed.

I think it would be fine. I can't see anything wrong with having a local friend meet you at your hotel room for a visit. The pool is huge and I have never seen it so crowded that it would be a problem (unlike the POLY pool which is way, way too small for even the hotel guests!). :goodvibes

I am so excited about our first trip to ASMu. We will be there June 5-12.

Has anyone had the experience of being bumped up from standard room to a preferred room at ASMu? Does that ever happen?
This thread has been just awesome!

Not sure about standard to perferred but we were there in April checked in the day before Easter on the 4/3 and were bumped from a preferred to a suite and absolutely loved it! (It was our first on site vacation and was a great surprise)

The only difference between the 2 is you must turn right when leaving Melody hall to get to 10 and left to get to 1.

Just got back from one week stay @ ASMu! Loved it! We paid for standard rooms and I requested Jazz Blding 9 ... when we checked in I asked politely if we could get it and I was told that we don't want that one because we were in Calypso Blding 1. Hooray! It was great. Right near the pool, the food, and the parking lot. We were there during the World Dance and Cheerleading Contest so it was quite packed during the first weekend but after that it died down. Each night they played a movie by the pool. Four adults stayed and had no problems. The privacy curtain was great too. I would have no problem staying here again. My only issues, for lack of better word, is poor quality toilet paper and bathroom towels. :rotfl: Do those get better with the mod or deluxe hotels?? :goodvibes

Great and welcome to our little cult!! I have heard that the TP and towels are better at the deluxe hotels. Not sure about mods. If you feel like doing a search, there was a LONG thread about 6 months ago about TP at the resorts - no joke, serious discussion.

We've done Calypso 1 and 10. Next trip we requested Jazz 2.

We got back from a long weekend stay over Mother's Day. ASMu is our "home away from home" and we had a great time. BUT...there always is isn't there?

For the first time we ended up in the "Country" building, which was the farthest building away. The walk doesn't bother us so much. What I didn't like is that neither of those rooms had the curtain between the bedroom area and the bathroom area. I know that sounds picky, but it is something we really got used to having.

To make it fair, we did need connecting rooms and those were the only ones available at the time of check-in.

The pool activities were awesome! The parks were NOT busy at all. The food was fine. The room was well-cleaned and we got towel animals. We have our own car, so no info on the bus situation.

We went to Universal Studios for a day just for a change of pace (plus we had some free tickets) and I was just amazed at the difference in the level of customer service there compared to the Disney parks.

When paying for parking, I learned more about how the girl at the parking area had her baby late than where to actually go to park. And how the employee at the counter service place was doing in her college classes than what come with the burger. I've worked alot of retail and trust me...most of the people there would have been let go long ago. It was almost funny.

Also on our last day, the game room was closed, not sure what's going on with that.

It was fun...if you're staying here...you picked the right place!

Hey just a quick question. We stayed in a prefered room last time but I'm thinking about a suite. Is the fridge in the suite the small square one, or is it the taller rectangle dorm fridge?

Does anyone know what the depth is of the pool? Or at least what the shallowest depth is?

Thanks!

Quick question for y'all:

So, if I've read correctly, paying for a preferred room means that you'll be put in one of the Calypso buildings? I've looked at the map, and that looks like a great location, but is it worth it to pay extra for it?

We're tentatively planning a trip (our first ever to WDW!) for later this year, and it would be me, DH, and our almost-2 year old. I thought it might be good to try to get close to the main building since we'll have the little one with us. Thoughts?

I have a question about the DME luggage service and ASMu. This is the first time we'll be sending our luggage through DME and I was wondering around how much time it has taken some of you here to get your luggage ASMu? Has anyone had bad experiences with it?

I'm always nervous about losing our luggage...

We used Magical Express on our last stay at the All Star Movies. We arrived in August mid-afternoon. Our luggage was delivered to our room within an hour of arrival. No bad experiences at all.

We had some friends stay at POP in early December and their flight arrived after 11:00 p.m. They didn't get their luggage until the next afternoon. I think it really depends on your flight arrival time. I would pack your essentials in a carry-on and take them with you to the resort with you just in case.

Enjoy your first trip! Just a warning -- it can be addictive. We're heading back for Trip #15 this year!

We've never paid for the preferred rooms ourselves. We generally get two connecting rooms and just couldn't justify the cost. This year we're getting a family suite so will automatically be in a preferred building.

For us, the walk wasn't too bad even with a stroller and all the extras (diaper bag, extra water, etc.). If you only have one child who most likely will be in a stroller, I would say no problem. Our three boy haven't complained about the walk to/from the main building even at night.

i have the all star music booked for saturday may 30th. i'm excited. the all star sports is the only other all star i've stayed at. i will be going with my g/f. any suggestions on which building to request? btw when i booked through the disney site, after i payed, i didn't get a confirmation email sent to my email because i want to know my confirmation# for the online check in feature.

Are there pool activities ate ASMu year round, or do they only happen during the summer months?

I'm pretty sure they are. They were there the beginning of May as well as end of Sept/beg of Oct. when we were there.
