All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

We'll be in a family suite in a couple weeks; this is our first stay at ASM. Angela, thanks for your post about the Calypso location -- helpful to know about the noise.

Can anyone tell me what building to request if I want a family suite with as little noise as possible? Our youngest just turned 2 so we will need her to be able to get to bed early. Obviously, facing away from the pool, but is there a specific building that is more removed from the action?

Thanks so much!

Melissa

We were in Calypso 10, room 0634 which was on the third floor, facing the All Star Movies parking lot (Mighty Ducks). There was some traffic noise, but you couldn't hear any of the pool noise. All of the buildings are mirrors of each other - Calypso 1 and 10 face each other, and Jazz 2 and 9 also face each other. Jazz should be less noisy, and you can request parking lot or interior view. You should be fine!

Please tell me about the kids pool activities and movie nights at ASMu. Thanks, Sandra

Hi Sandra and welcome to All Star Music. The kids activities and movies are one of the reasons we chose the resort for our last trip and we weren't disappointed.

There are crew members stationed at the "head" of the main pool (between the Calypso buildings). They are wonderful! Every half hour or so, there is another activity scheduled. They do a dance party, hula hooping, trivia contests, karaoke, bingo, lots of different things. They are just as enthusiastic if there is just one kid or a large group. My DD didn't want to actually participate, but they did the trivia contest over a small microphone, so we were able to hear and answer the questions just between us. Even when no one wanted to dance, the two young woman CMs were still dancing every dance when it came on, just in case someone wanted to join in.

There is an inflatable screen that they set up for Wii bowling at 6:30 every night, and also the movie. The movie runs every night, and the schedule is the same for a whole month, but there is usually a "vote on" movie once or twice during the week.

The music playing around the pool is always fun. There is definitely a fun, family party atmosphere around the pool. We really loved it.

Activities start in the early afternoon (like one or two when I was there in Jan.) things like bingo, trivia, hula hoop relays, dance contests, etc. Then around 3:30 they have the changing of the life guards and there's a song and dance. Activities continued until late afternoon early evening. Then they have a big inflatable movie screen with rear projection that they set up inbetween the pool and the doors to the food courts, it's nearish the pool bar so kids can sit and watch and parents can sit and enjoy a beverage while still seeing the kids. The movie starts at dark and is sometimes announced and sometimes you only get a hint or catagory. The kids I saw seemed to really enjoy it.

We stayed in Calypso room 1428 and it was great- we had a car and it is three doors fromt the walkway to the parking lot but not facing the parking lot- it faces a little grass area where my boys played sometimes while they were waiting for me with Dad. It is in the first building so close the the food and pool but down a outside walkway so you can't hear the pool activities- Quiet for nap time which my husband can attest- Liked having the quiet while being close to food court and buses and pool- I would try to get 1426 which is just one closer to the pool but still quiet. Have a great time we LOVED IT

has anyone got any photos of the inflatable screen? i'm intrigued!

Think twice about switching to ASMU from Pop. We have stayed in both. In March we stayed in the family suite at ASMU and last year we had two rooms at POP. We all liked POP much better. The food court was our main reason. Plus the busses. It made my husband nuts when we had to wait for buses and then go to the other AS resorts.

It is funny how different families have different opinions. We have stayed at both - all the values actually - and I didn't like for Pop because of the food court! I didn't like the store being right there in the food court. It felt like it was so busy and loud all the time. At the All Stars I always feel like I can find a table a little out of the way and quieter. And I like not having to walk past the store to eat.

I am so excited about our first trip to ASMu. We will be there June 5-12.

Has anyone had the experience of being bumped up from standard room to a preferred room at ASMu? Does that ever happen?
This thread has been just awesome!

At the All Star music, we are part of a grand gathering. One family will have a Family suite and the other two families will have standard rooms. They said they'd try to put us close together.

If all the suites are in the Jazz and Calypso buildings does that mean they'll find rooms for the rest of us in the same building as the family with the suite?

Or are all the suites grouped together?

Also, I know this sounds wierd, but do all the rooms have those brown bedspreads? I'd be willing to pay the $10 extra to have something a little livelier. That's the color my bedroom at home is painted and I've grown to hate it. LOL

I think that they'll try hard to keep you together - so, because you booked standard rooms and not preferred rooms, I would assume that if you're together, you'll all be in one of the Jazz buildings (the Calypso buildings are only suites and preferred rooms).

I don't know about the bedspreads though, I'll take a look to see if I can find you a current picture.

Yep, sorry, the bedspreads are sort of brown - but they're cute!

Thanks. The Jazz buildings look like a good location too. I thought I could probably talk the group into upgrading to preferred if they had a different color scheme, but if they're all the same we can just keep what we have.

:)

Sorry -- the ones in the link are the only ones I've seen, but the colours appeared more vivid in person

We were there in Dec last year and the rooms were nice. :goodvibes The bedspreads were light shades of browns. Not dark at all. For a 'Value' resort, it was in top form. We were assigned a room at the Jazz Inn which is a short walk to the main building. We had no problems at all with the room, Mousekeeping or the resort itself. Had a blast and hoping to return again after Thanksgiving!:yay:

Hi looking for help with building choices.

I have a grand gathering booked with the buy 4 get 3 free June 15-22, 2009

I choose to move to a family suite for my family of 5 at the ASMU. But at the time of this move there was no stander rooms left under this promo so
My MIL and my two neces. And my BIL and his friend are booked in two different rooms at All star sports.

I have been trying to move the two rooms into the ASMU but so far no luck I was told to keep checking but no luck. Cast members said I would have better luck at the 45 day mark but no luck today.

So now I am thinking if nothing opens up so they can move what building should I request at each resort. so we are still as close as we can be.

When I look at the Maps it loos like HomeRun at Sports looks close to Jazz at ASMU but does any one know how far walking these two buildings are from each other.

Or if anyone is going soon do you mind checking out so I can put a request for rooms in a certin building with a range of numbers. I belive my kids and my two neces will be running back and fourth ( 14,13,12,9,7) so I am a little worried about the parking lot but it looks small in that one section any input would be great.
Thanks Brenda

I think your request plans sound fine.

When we last stayed at ASMu we frequently got off the bus at ASSp and walked across the parking lot. It's not far at all (at least not to me).

I'd recommend looking at an aerial map and comparing it to walks you do locally to get a sense of whether it will seem long to you.

Hi Brenda!! Crummy weather here in Denver, huh?

We'll be in the Suites as well, but we moved our trip from June to August. We'll actually be at WDW on the same date as our cruise started last year and there's a "reunion" with several families form the cruise. I would love to be cruising this year, but it has been two years since we've done WDW and we can't do both. :confused3

Say hi to the family from June and Christopher.

To answer your question, we've stayed at all 3 All-Stars in the past. I think your plan of staying in Buildings 1 or 2 at the Music, and having the rest of the family in the Home Run Section works fine. It's not too far of a walk. We've walked through between the resorts to see the different pools and the parking lot isn't that bad. Good luck at trying to get the rest of your family moved closer to you.

Hello Christopher and June yes crummy weather normaly May is so nice and warm but this year it is strange :confused3.

I bet you will have fun seeing familys from last summer cruise I bet the boys caint waite to be at the world and if they get to see old friends that will be an added bonus.

I too love Cruising but I have us booked for the second to last week in Oct 23, 2010 Denver schools closes for three days that week and I got two Cat 10rooms for 7 for $5000.00 hard to pass up kids will only miss two days of school. Unless the new ship has something great going on but from what I read they will not.
We werent planing on doing anything this year then the Buy 4 get three free came out and we jumped on it of course we ended up adding more and more to our little trip for three. We are taking our two grandsons that are 9 and 7 and my hubbys Mom and a few others other family is comming along.
I went ahead and switched us to the suite because I think it will fit Our needs better I am really glad I made the move even if we end up being in different resorts.
I wish we could go during free dinning but our daughter starts school on the 16th so no luck. Last year she missed the whole first two weeks of school and even though I had it pre aranged and she did her homework on the ship and I e-mailed it to the Teachers every few days. When she got sick in Dec that said they could drop her for missing more than 14 days so I am not going to risk that. When do your boys go back to school?.

Does anyone know if we are allowed to invite a local couple to join us for the movie night at the pool. We are staying at Music but have a friend who lives in Orlando. We want to get together during the week we are there but they don't want to go into the parks. I thought the pool movie might be a fun way to visit and catch up. But I don't want to do anything wrong. I don't know if this is like pool hopping which is not allowed.

Hi. Just make sure you ask for Calypso 1 (room numbers start with 1) and Jazz 2 (room numbers start with 2). You don't want Jazz 9 or Calypso 10 or you'll be next to All Star Movies. Looks like Homerun 8 is closest to those two. Here's a link to a map: http://www.allears.net/acc/asportsmap.jpg It shows all 3 All stars on the bottom and you can zoom in and see the distances and parking lots.

The parking lots all have crosswalks and it won't be hard at all to walk between the two if necessary. We were in Calypso 10 and our parking lot was Movies, Mighty Ducks section.

Have a great time.
