All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Got back 2 weeks ago-kids 5 & 8 loved it-we saw all ages of kids there. Guitar pool was hopping even though it was chilly. He will love it because everything is HUGE! LOL!

Thanks, divawife!! I'm sure my DS will think it's awesome!!

I've booked a standard room at ASMU for three nights in Aug. We have a 9-year old son. Will he like the theming? I really didn't want to book ASSP.

We haven't stayed there yet, but it looks like something my almost 8-yo ds will like from the pictures I've seen. You can always walk over to Sports and look around, or eat in the food court, or even swim (yes, you can pool hop between the 3 AS resorts).

Are there slides in the pools? How do the pools compare to the Deluxe resort ones?

There are themed pools, but no slides. The slides are at the moderates and deluxes. The pools are nice, but the ones at the deluxes are MUCH nicer...IMO.

My kids love the main pool at ASMusic!! No... there isn't a slide, but the middle of the pool has the 3 Callebaros (?sp) and they are all shooting water out. The pool itself is pretty big too. So it might not have a slide, but it is still very nice.

I agree.
I love watching the little ones have fun with the 3 Cabrellos.
Sometimes a child is chosen to wake the 3 Cabrellos in the mornings.

The parks were not bad. More crowded than we expected but nothing horrible. We waited in line to meet characters longer then we waited for rides!

Waking up the trio - I don't know what it's really called or if it has a name - anyway dh took dd out to swim while I packed. Around 9:30 or 10:00 the lifeguard came over and asked dd if she wanted to help "wake up the trio" (they have names I just don't know them.) the 3 squirting guys at the main pool:

He told her they had been out all night with Mickey but it was time for them to wake up and start squirting. So he gave her maracas and a tambourine and they started playing music and voila the trio started spraying water for the day. She got a sombrero (sp?) hat, a little pair of maracas and a certificate. She was so excited about it. It was neat.

Was wondering if anyone knows .... I've seen that they have coffee pots in the suites. What about in the standard room? Can you ask for one from housekeeping and is there a charge? Thanks so much!

As of sept of last year they did not have them in the room. I don't know if they would give you one if you asked

Me and DH are headed to ASMU in 2 weeks.. cant wait..

Just there in March and thought the resort was in great condition. Room was neat and clean.

Which building did you stay in? We never stayed there before. Last year we stayed at POP Century. The pictures look kind of the same as far as the room goes. Are the other 2 All Stars in walking distance to ASMu?

All of the rooms at ASMusic have been redone in the last year with new paint/carpet/etc. All 3 AS resorts are within walking distance. We stayed at Movies in 2004 and we took Music's bus and walked across the parking lot.

I am getting so excited again. It sounds like we will be happy at ASMu. Can't decide if we should get a peferred room or not. It's just my DH and me . I'm just thinking about the distance to the main building.

DD and I just got back from ASMu. I loved it!!! This is now my favorite among the value hotels. This was the only one we had previously not stayed at before. Now when we go and stay at the value level it will be this one!

They are still running all the activities by the pool which my dd (7) loved! The young ladies who run the activites are so good with all the children. DD and I loved returning from the parks and just hanging out by the pool. Since this was a mom/dd trip she was able to get some great interaction with other kids while doing all the various activities.

The only activity I really did not like was the large beach ball in the pool. It seemed quite dangerous at times. The life guards do instruct anyone with small children or anyone not wating to play with the ball to go up to the neck of the pool but many people, even those with very small children, stayed in the main area. This just seems like a potentially dangerous situation for someone getting hurt.

We loved the trivia questions by the store. I also loved the fact that store and food court are seperate like the other All Stars. I hated the combo of the store and food court at Pop. Everytime we went to eat at Pop dd wanted to go to the store.

We did pay extra to stay in Calypso and thought it was worth it. Next time I would request not to have a pool view but still stay in Calypso. I would do this because on our early to bed nights the noise from the pool, while not awful, was distracting to my dd. When we had the TV on you could not hear anything from the pool. If I were to stay pool side agian I might bring a small fan or such to cancel out the noise. Truthfully it was only bad our first night -- the others dd was so tired from the parks and swimming the noise did not matter.

The only complaint I had was with mousekeeping. We kept being asked by the same mousekeeper if we really wanted our room done or could they just give us a few clean towels and skip it. I thought this was weird the first time but it was just stranger when it happened a couple days in a row. Once again not a serious issue because all we really did in the room was sleep and bathe. We were hardly in the room at all. If we were at the hotel and awake that ment we were at the pool!

Thank you so much for this GREAT thread. My kids (DS15 and DD14) are going to WDW for the first time in only 15 days and we are booked at the All Star Music Resort. Based on this thread I think we made a great choice! :yay:

Do they give you a list of what time the activites will be?

Thanks!

Yes, at check in they give you a list of what time all the activities by the pool are. They also list what movie will be played each evening.

That story about the child being allowed to wake up the Three Caballeros is so cute!! I can't WAIT until we get there. I'm so excited about our trip!

DH & I stayed at ASMu in January 2008 in a standard room in the Jazz Building - it was a 1st floor room almost to the end, but for us it was the perfect location. Quick distance to pool, food court & the bus transportation & super close to our car (for packing & unpacking). We'd request the same spot in a heartbeat. There were suites next to our room and a little playground of some sort on the back side of our wing. It was really peaceful & quiet. 100% better than what we'd had at POP in September. :cutie:
