All Aboard Presidents Week Mexican Riviera February 19, 2012 Wonder

I am waiting to hear back from our TA to see if we can get KSF applied to our ressie. I have also sent e-mails to friends trying to talk them into joining the cruise.

Samily, how old are your kids. My DS will be almost 9 at the cruise and DD will be 7. This cruise is going to be a surprise for them.

We are getting closer to being able to book excursions and such and getting very excited.

Is this group interested in doing Fish Extender exchange. We did one on our Thanksgiving 2010 cruise and had a lot of fun with it. It was a pretty long list of people participating though and it took a lot of effort to get everything ready. I would be up for participating, but not sure I could be the coordinator since that is the busiest time at work for me.

Hilary

Hilary - I have a son that will almost be 9 when we cruise and a daughter that will be almost 7. We should try and meet up so the kids can meet.

We are interested in doing FE. We did them last time and the kids LOVED it!! They would run back to the room to see if we got anything in our fish extender. Like you I want to do it but don't think I am the best person to coordinate it. Anyone else interested in organizing the Fish extenders for our cruise??

Can't wait for the cruise.

Julie

I contacted PurtyPat and she needs to to take care of some personal things but will be back on the boards soon.

I don't know how far in advance people start making or buying FE gifts but, if we can get a count of who wants to participate and who doesn't then at least that will give people an idea of what to expect.

There are a couple of threads on the main board but they are probably buried. Let me see if I can find some...

Basically, there is a metal fish just outside each stateroom. DCL uses the fish for delivering letters to the guests. Dis members hang pouches from the fish so others on the cruise can play "Secret Santa" and deliver gifts to each other.

The gifts range from pieces to candy and pirate tattoos to homemade CDs and magnets. If you look at some of the threads, you will see that some people go all out and others don't. Honestly, it doesn't really matter as it is all about the thrill of returning to your room and finding a small gift.

Right now we have a very small group but usually, as the cruise date gets closer, others jump on board. Either way, with three days at sea, it isn't too difficult to deliver goodies to 10-12 rooms.

My family will be joining you all on this cruise. We are taking advantage of the KSF for our February vacation. My family consists of me, DH, Tyrone, DS, Ty 11, and DD, Ashley 5. This is my 4th Disney Cruise, my husband's 3rd, my son's 2nd and my daughter's 1st. We look forward to meeting all of you and to experiencing the MR for the first time. Please include us in the FE group. Take care, Kim

Welcome Kim! :flower3:

Hi, all!

We are booked on this sailing as well. Keeping my fingers crossed - we've had to cancel winter cruises twice due to medical issues.

It will be me (6th Disney cruise), DH (4th Disney cruise), DD17 (4th Disney cruise - wanted a trip to Mexico for winter break, so this works!), DD14 (wanted to see whales, so I'm counting on an excursion in Cabo - this is her 5th Disney cruise), DS11 (wanted to go anywhere, as long as we all go together - rare, unfortunately, but this should work! His 4th Disney cruise) and DS9 (wanted to go to California - so got him covered, too! - 4th Disney cruise for him, too).
We are probably flying in from NY late on the 15th for a few days at Disneyland first.

We might consider doing the FE - did it last time but DH wasn't thrilled at packing the extra stuff, but the kids had fun.

All of our prior Disney cruises were 2-5 nights, so we are excited to have a little more relaxed pace.

Greetings Disney Fans!!

As of yesterday afternoon, our flights are locked and loaded so we will definitely be joining you on this cruise! It will be a Christmas surprise for the kids and they are going to be thrilled! (as am I)

We would love to participate in the fish extender exchange.
We are:
Deanna (me)
Jeff (DH)
Matthew (DS - 9)
Emily (DD - 5)

Please count us in!

Big thank you to whoever mentioned KSF for this cruise. We booked this one our last cruise when they weren't having any deals. When I saw KSF I called my travel agent just to see if it would benefit us - IT DID!! We saved a lot of money! :yay:

So if you booked before they made it a KSF cruise check and see if you can change your reservation. It worked for us. We lost our on board credit but it was far less than what we saved.

Also for FE here are our names Julie, DH - Monte, DS (8) - Beckham, DD (6) - Ainsley

Not sure if anyone is interested but for our last cruise someone set up a facebook page so we could all chat about the cruise (I know we can do that here but sometimes I get so overwhelmed with all the posts and can never read them all or know where to look - maybe it's just me)

I was poking around on the DCL site and it looks like our cruise is starting to fill up. They only have 9A (GTY) and up available.

Here is our updated list (those participating in the FE are at the top):

We live about 15 minutes from the Port of Los Angeles but we don't drive by that often. Yesterday afternoon, at my son's baseball game, you could hear the Wonder's horn in the distance.

I am glad to see that so many of you have kids around my kids' ages (mine are 11, 9 and 6). I know that many of you have cruised before - can you tell me a little bit about what your kids do during the days at sea?

It really depends on their personalities. My then 11 year old daughter met a group of friends in the Edge and spent the week with them. They would participate in Edge activities, go to movies, have breakfast or lunch together, wander the ship and wait in line for character photos, go swimming, etc.

My then 8 year old son (aka Eeyore) would go to the Club when we encouraged him but he always moaned and groaned about it. When we would pick him up, he was always having fun and was always in the same area - playing Mario Kart. There were a couple of activities that he did that were unrelated to MK but, for the most part, that was his cruise. On a side note, after we returned home, he saved his money and bought MK for home.

He did enjoy the movies and shows on board the ship. Neither kid spent much time in the pool. We're from CA and relatively thin skinned. A lot of people from the East were in swim suits while we wore jeans and sweatshirts. :rotfl:

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has an Eyeore. My 9YO is exactly the same, and I have visions of him camping out in front of the video games, too.

DS (almost 8 during cruise earlier year) loved all the activities in the lab - cooking, science experiments, mysteries. He loved making flubber - talked about it all week. We had him pick which activities he wanted to do otherwise he would have been in the lab all day. He is a shy kid but loves experiments so this was right up his alley. DD (almost 6 on cruise earlier this year) didn't care for the lab (too much going on) But she is not typically my shy one but she had a rough time warming up to the oceaneers club. She wouldn't want to go but when we would go pick her up she wouldn't want to leave. The lab had more activities I think she would have liked but there was a lot going on in the lab and I think it was too chaotic for her. The oceaneers club was much more relaxed.

They both LOVED the shows at night and movies. There is so much to do on the ship it was always hard picking what we wanted to focus on. By far their favorite (aside from the characters) was the midnight chocolate buffet. I don't think it is advertised and I can't remember what night they have it but it is amazing. There is table after table of all chocolate with elaborate decorations. We all loved it - a little too much  :rotfl2:

We had second seating for dinners and I was worried but someone told me it works out better b/c during 2nd seating the oceaneers club/lab walk around the dining rooms and get any kids that want to go. then you and your spouse can have a relaxing meal together but you still get to eat as a family for the first part. 1st seating doesn't have this option. This worked out well for us. Also you get to see the show before dinner which we liked.

Hope that helps. Sorry if I gave too much info.
