Alfredo's closing permanently?

It will be good to see Alfredo's replaced. We had lunch there not too long ago. The food was not very good, the service rushed and they tried to overcharge us. :( Fettucine alfredo was never a favorite of mine anyway. ;) Bring on the tomato sauce!

Well, hate to blow your theory, but yes, Alfredo's is on the DDP, as is San Angel. Kind of a hit or miss as far as non-Disney owned places go - but when they're sit-down in the parks, they're on the DDP.

Actually, I was thinking quite the opposite....that they would close Alfredo's and and put in a non-DDP restaurant. I imagine it would get very confusing if they did that, but it wouldn't surprise me, given the things Disney has done to the DDP (different menus, etc...). If Disney does, in fact, have designs on closing Alfredo's, I wonder if their long term plan includes outsourcing all the restaurants around World Showcase. Just thinking out loud...:)

i have seen threads abou tthis on 3 other sites
it is kinda surprising we like it there and have eaten ther on our last 4 trips
dh and i had lunch there 2 weeks ago and it was good
it would be interesting to see what goes in its place

Seams to me if it were true Disney would have said something when they allowed me to make my ADR there for August. :confused3

Disney has taken reservations for hotels that were about to be rehabbed. I am not surprised if they do shut it down that they are still taking reservations (though I expect, if true, that they'll say something soon and stop taking them!)

We ate there last summer on our first trip to the World and the wife liked it so much I made an ADR for this June, just for her. She felt the waiter was "intimidating", but we did not feel rushed. I told her it was cultural thing and not to take it personally.

I also enjoyed my meal.

i heard they are putting in a olive garden and red lobster will be a replacement
for coral reef. lol

Yes but unfortunately due to the DDP you will not be able to get lobster at Red Lobster! LOL!

I almost made an adr for Teppanyaki which was closed on that particular date..I cancelled my Alfredos adr since hearing the news & switched to Garden Grill.

Mexico, Japan, maybe Norway?, the Pepper Market - there are a number of non-Disney owned restaurants. The new one in AK will be owned by the Rainforest.

Information needed: tell me more or where I can go to get all the info on the new resturant at the AK.....

Funny how things change. Going to Epcot in the early days the food in Italy was delicious. We changed things up in the mid-90's and tried something new-Canada. Blech! Things are so different now.......

Landry's is the management company/restaurant group that runs The Rainforest cafe and the new AK restaurant (Yak and Yeti??) It has a whole host of themed restaurants (I've only ever heard of Rainforest, there is about 20 others) They are also opening T-Rex at DTD sometime in the future. I looked on their website and they do have an Italian!!!! Landry's takes over WDW!

Perhaps, as others have said, the contract is up on the space, and is not to be renewed. Staff are usually the last people to find out that sort of news.

not trying to hijack thread, but what is Yak and Yeti? Is it a table service restaurant? Is it already open?

This is great news IMHO. This place is one of the only TS restaurants that we've never tried, due to how consistently it has received poor reviews from folks who's reviews have been useful to us in the past. Hopefully, the replacement will be substantially better -- it'll be great to have the chance to try a wholly brand-new restaurant at WDW for a change.

And if we're especially lucky, maybe the new restaurant will be Disney-owned.

I may have mentioned this to you before but I find it frustrating when someone claims whether a restaurant is good or bad without having tried it themselves. I was YOU at one point, reluctant to try Alfredo's.....putting it off for years before I finally decided I should find out for myself.
I couldn't have been more wrong in assuming it was bad based on the negative reviews of others. I highly recommend the place and will be terribly bummed if they are closing/changing it.

Give the place a try. I would enjoy hearing how or if you liked it. But stating that the possible closing is "great news" when you've never even given it a chance isn't really fair, is it?

Not necessarily. The Dining reservations office may not be aware of the closure.

Huh? I didn't do so. Please read what I wrote again. What I said is that the reviews from folks I have come to rely on have been so consistently bad, that we have never seen fit to visit it. That won't change -- the folks who's reviews I rely on still don't like the place! :) So the closure is good news, since it raises the chances that folks who's reviews I rely on may actually like the new restaurant! :thumbsup2

I have to say here that I am not surprised it would be closing as although it seems to be quite busy, the food is not good, service is worse, and the attitude of those in charge even worse. I will never eat there again and yet in the past, maybe like two years ago, we had a delightful meal there, service was good, and it was a wonderful night...it just was not consistent.

Not sure what happened to Alfredo's, but this last time was horrific. Hopefully, if is closing, Disney will come up with something more exciting in the way of Italian food. I can think of many Italian chefs from the Food Network channel or Iron Chef, hey maybe one of them could take over and open an Italian restaurant. Think Giada or Mario....;)

My husband and son were both very disappointed to hear this. They liked the fettechine. My daughter and I didn't like what we ordered, but they were both looking forward to going back.

I agree 100% with bicker. (Is that permitted? :rotfl2: )
Last year I grit my teeth and made a reservation at Alfredo's because we'd never eaten there, but I chickened out and we went to Biergarten instead. Glad we did. Assuming the rumor is true, I'm relieved that I no longer have an obligation to try Alfredo's.

Actually, it's exciting news! It's not that often that a NEW restaurant opens at WDW. Now we have not only Ying & Yak (or whatever) at AK, and Il Mulino at the Swan, but a third new restaurant to look forward to.

BTW I keep thinking "Il Mulino" is Italian for "The Mule". Could someone please enlighten me -- what does it really mean?

There was a picture of a construction sign up for it in the Asia area (on another disney fansite) and it had the name as Yak and Yeti (which isn't a great name, but perhaps it's just a working title!) It is scheduled to open in summer 2007. It is going to be both a CS and a TS. The food will be asian (which when you think about it, doesn't really narrow it down that much!) inspired, but again they may tweak it.

Didn't the Nine Dragons change management recently? I guess Disney aren't adverse to this.
