Hi,

I've become the family travel agent, lol. A cousin is planning a long weekend in Albany and has asked for my help.

Anybody live there? Can you recommend any good restaurants, hotels, things to do? They are going to see a show at the Palace Theatre, so things near there would be helpful.

I've never actually stayed downtown so I can't tell you about the hotels. I have heard that people have liked the Crown Plaza.

I don't know what their budget is, but a couple downtown restaurants that are nice are Jack's Oyster House, Yono's, Angelo's 677 Prime...Really there are many upscale places to eat. My DH also likes Wolf's Biergarten.

If she's going for a long weekend and the only thing she's doing in Albany is the concert at the Palace she may want to think about staying outside of Albany. I personally love Saratoga Springs and it's only about 30 minutes or so to downtown Albany. There are tons of restaurants (our favorite is Chianti...we also like Ravenous) and boutiques. There are museums and spas (some of them still have mineral baths).

Just an FYI, finding the Palace won't be that difficult, but parking in that area can be a challenge. Wherever they decide to stay (unless they go with one of the downtown hotels that include parking) make sure they give themselves time to find parking before their event.
