DW and I are staying on points in just a little under 90 days at AKL in Concierge. When are they supposed to be contacting us concerning all of our reservations and such?

I thought that it was supposed to be just at 90 days out. I definitely do not want to miss out on the Sunrise Safari.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

If I remember correctly - I received a mailing from the concierge staff around 4 weeks after making the reservation. But mine was a cash reservation made through Disney, not DVC. So I don't know if that makes a difference. We are going on the Sunrise Safari 8/7 for my 45th birthday, and I can't wait. Here is the concierge email address. Usually get back to you the following day. The Kilimanjaro Club Concierge Phone - 407-938-4755 and the email is WDW.AKLodge.Concierge@disney.com

We stayed at AKL conceirge in March using points. It was a wonderful trip! I love the BCV and BWV, but AKL was like being in a different world.

I went ahead and contacted them myself because we didn't want to take a chance on missing the Sunset Safari. It turned out to be the best thing we have ever done at WDW .. well, after joining DVC!::yes::

We are going to AKL Concierge in a few weeks on points. Actually chaeper for us to use points than AP code. Concierge called us at the 90 day mark. Looking forward to the Sunrise Safari as well. There is also a sunset safari that we are not doing this trip, saving it for another visit. The sunset is a very private tour of the AKL safari (8 max?) -- real up close and personal. Then you have a special dinner at JIKO.

They have a great staff, so give them a call or email. Buzz5958 gave the particulars above.

We stayed AKL conceirge when family cancelled on us less than 30 days out. We used the points we were going to spend on a two-bedroom and changed to AKL for two days followed by a one-bedroom. I called the conceirge staff directly when I made the change and had no trouble getting the Sunrise Safari at about three weeks in advance.

I had already made all of my dining priority seatings myself at that point, so I don't know what luck they would have had for that stuff on such short notice.

I contacted the staff well before the 90 day mark. I told them what reservations I wanted. They always replied within 24hrs. They would also tell what dates they could make the reservations and then send me the confirmations.

We are going in Nov and I recieved an email and a paper asking what we wanted about two weeks ago.

Thanks for the tips, I called them yesterday and they returned my call last night. Don from Itinery planning called. It was interesting talking to him since he was born and raised in Elkhart Indiana.

We were his first booking for the Oct 26th Sunrise Safari. Now I am trying to decide whether I want to do the 999 Happy Haunts Ball or surprise my wife and take her on the Sunset Safari which includes a pretty nice dinner at Boma.

Any thoughts?

I believe the Sunset Safari includes a wine paring dinner at JIKO, which should be quite enjoyable.

Yes, you are right it is JIKO not Boma. I get them confused for some reason.

Thanks,

I cannot sing the praises of the Sunset Safari enough! I would think surprising someone with this would be out of this world!

We went in March. It was just DD23 and I and another couple. It is a max of 8 and over 16 years old. You drive around the savannahs all over the hotel. It was so much fun. We have so many great pics. They stop the van and let you take as many as you want.

The giraffes came so close you could have petted them, but you are not allowed. They walk along beside your van. Our tour guide, Karen, was great cause she has worked there since Day 1 and knows the animals by name and will tell you the funny habits of each one. Mary the ostrich is trip! She runs after the van and you have to stop and let her get out of the road.

After the tour you stop and have juice and snacks. The giraffes come watch and hang their long necks over the fence.

And then there is dinner at Jiko ... oh my! You have 4 different appitizers, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. I don't know if this would change if there were more or less in your party. We got to try many dishes we have seen on the Jiko menu and never ordered. The chef comes out with each course and tells you all about the dishes. Wine is served with each course, too. It is served family style. I wasn't sure about dining with strangers, but there was so much to talk about, they were soon like old friends.

Yes, it isn't cheap at $150 a person, but the dinner alone is worth alot. I would do it again in a minute.
