Akershus and “free” photo

I just got back and dropped $30 on photos from chef mickey that only has a statue of a mini mickey, the free picks from akershus were great. My dausghter loved the place. Both places the food isnt that good.

You're correct, the photo isn't "free" it's calculated into the cost of the meal. It is a good deal on the DDP, but I won't eat at Akershus if I'm paying OOP anymore, though the food is good, the cost just isn't worth it, and I really don't need that many pictures of myself with Belle.

"And I believe you get the included photo with only one princess - at CRT it's Cinderella, at Akershus I believe it is usually, if not always, Belle.

We ate at Akershus on 08/23. We were all really surprised that our picture was with Aurora, not Belle, since we had always met with Belle for the picture in the past. Out of curiosity we asked our waitress who indicated that Belle had been in earlier but wasn't feeling well so she went home to her castle so the Beast could take care of her.

I just wanted to share so people aren't upset if Belle isn't there, though I would bet she's there at least 95% of the time.

In case anybody's wondering, yes there were still 4 more princesses inside the restaurant just like normal. When a princess has a less than magical day, a different princess does come in to take her place.

I think the problem with looking at the math alone is that one character meal isn't necessarily interchangable with the next. If I'm planning a trip with a 6yo girl in mind, for example, I'm probably not going to look at Crystal Palace or Ohana as equally acceptable alternatives to Akershus or CRT. I think a lot of the posts about Akershus' relative value are based on the underlying assumption that the person asking is interested in a princess meal to begin with. On that count, Akershus is the best value - less expensive than CRT, more princesses than 1900 Park Fare.

That's what I was thinking.

Just to clarify, I’m not complaining about this; I’m not mad about it or anything. It was just an observation, and I’m not sure everyone is aware of it. I’m taking my kids there and I can’t wait to just sit and watch my DD interact with the princesses.

But, if people are trying to cut costs, they may want to consider that they could get a comparable breakfast elsewhere for 1/3 less cost.

And on the other hand, if someone on the Dining Plan is trying to maximize the “value” of their TS credits, Akershus is a better choice than many of the other places.

So I bolded the part that stands out for me. I have had dinner at O'hana (non-character), dinner at Chef Mickey's (character), dinner at CRT (Character), and breakfast at Akershus (character). Granted, Akershus was the only breakfast in this list, but my breakfast at Akershus was HEAD AND SHOULDERS better than dinner at Chef Mickey's. I mean not even in the same ballpark. O'hana's is a must do for us every year, mainly for the desert and watching Wishes from the beach. Did CRT once (because with little girls you must do it once) but was not overly impressed.

So I think it's what each person's tastes are. I loved it, my DD loved it, and we will definitely do it again. Chef Mickey's, Not so much.

So maybe you would feel better with the phrase "no extra charge" for the photo. I don't disagree with your math, but Akershus was worth at least $30 more than Chef Mickey's. The food is terrific, servers great, and the princesses are wonderful.

Totally agree! The experience was worth so much more than $30 for us, the picture was just an added bonus in my opinion!

At Akerhaus, we had our picture taken with Belle in her ballgown.

It is the first thing you do before you sit down to dinner.

It is one of my favorite pictures from my character meals.

Our picture was with Belle as well...it was so cute to see the way my DD was looking at her (she ADORES Belle) and was dressed in her yellow belle dress too...she wouldn't even look at the photographer because she was in awe of Belle....one of my favorite pictures from our trip!!

We ordered the Photopass CD and was able to add the Askershus photo to photopass when we returned home last year. I added some borders and such and was able to print up even more pictures to give out to the granparents and great grandparents for gifts.

So, to me, the price was well worth it..we enjoyed the food, the princess interaction was incredible, and we got several pictures to help cherish the memories.

Now that's priceless!!!

Just an FYI: Over Christmas she wears her wine coloured Christmas dress, not the yellow dress. I thought that was a very nice touch.
