I just booked our flight for our January trip on Airtran. Their prices were almost $200 less than anything else I could find and it is a non-stop flight! Also, we get to Orlando at 10am the day of our arrival and don't depart until 5:40pm the day of our departure which I think sounds great. The only thing I am concerned about is the fact that I didn't get to choose my seats when I bought the tickets. It said that you choose them at check-in. This just has me concerned about whether or not we will all get to sit together. Do they over-book their flights and then when people come to select their seats there are none left? Has anyone had any trouble with this process? Thanks for any advice!

I've used Airtran quite a few times and never had any problems. My son is leaving tomorrow for Orlando booked with Airtran and I have them booked in January also. :earboy2:

Airtran allows you to pick out your seats and print boarding passes starting at 24 hours before your flight up until 90 minutes.

We have done this numerous times and it's really easy. Go onto to airtran.com and there is an area for checking in. It will ask for your confirmation code and the departure airport. A picture of the plane will then appear with colors representing the seats. I think it's something like green for open seats and red for seats already take. The site has clear instructions. Just pick out the seats you want and the system will lead you along the way. If for some reason you can't print out your boarding passes go ahead and pick out your seats and when you get to the airport they have kisoks available to print them out. You can also have the desk do it at the airport or the sky caps can print them out for you.

I've never had a problem getting seats together when checking in at the 24 hour mark.

I have done the online check in at the 24 hour mark many times with no problems. Also if I am out of town with a computer but no printer I check in and they print the boarding pass when I get to the airport.

This is all very reassuring. I will definitely check-in exactly 24 hours in advance to choose my seats. Do they make any kind of special arrangements for people traveling with small children? I am taking my 3 1/2 year old niece and I of course want to be sitting by her! I am guessing that getting two seats together wouldn't be a huge deal though, even if you don't check-in ahead of time!

If you don't check in early you may find that all that is left is middle seats. They do hold some seats back to be assigned at the gate but you must be there early.

Is that 24 hours before the plane is due to depart? I know that sounds stupid, but want to make sure I have accurate information.

Yes, it is 24 hours before your scheduled departure time.

If you try to do it at the 23:58 minute mark you won't be able to do it. So anytime after the 24 hours is good.

Hi -

We're planning on using AirTran BUF-MCO. I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can answer.

1) Our departing flight has a connection - do we pick seats for both flight segments 24hours before the originating flight?

and

2) This is probably a stupid question but here goes - When can we pick seats for our return flight MCO-BUF (that is a week later)? Can we pick those at the same time as we pick BUF-MCO or do we have to wait until 24 hours before the MCO-BUF flight?

Thank-you.

You will pick seats for both segments when you check in for BUF-MCO. At the 24 hour mark before your MCO-BUF you can pick those seats. No way to do it ahead of time.

Thanks safetymom.
