Our flights in December to and from MCO dropped today from $125 one way to $109. I called Airtran to get the price decrease added to my A+ account as a credit and not only did I get the ticket price decrease, I also got the federal segment tax refunded.

So, there IS a way to get the tax refunded to you without having to wait until the flight and then file with the IRS. Just wait for Airtran to decrease the cost of your flight and call them to get the refund for the difference!

Ummm that would be great if you plan on flying on Airtran again but not soo good if you won't be for awhile. Not too mention they will be sitting on your federal tax segment refunds on your account that has already been paid.

We fly Airtran to MCO often, usually at least 3 times a year. I already used my $78.80 in refunds this morning to book exit row seats for us at an additional cost of $1.20. That money will likely get rolledforward to a future trip, too, when we upgrade to Business Class seats using Airtran A+ rewards in December.

Not sure what you are talking about them sitting on my refunds. I HAVE the refunds already paid to me without having to wait to take the flights and file with the IRS.

Sorry I thought they credited you on your account.

Airtran DID credit my Airtran A+ account. But that is better than having to wait until December to fly and then applying to the IRS to get a refund of the taxes, I think. Like I said, I often get adjustments to my account from Airtran for fare sales. I always use them soon after receiving them.
