Does anyone know if I can pack a pairing knife in my checked luggage? I want to take a flexible cutting board to cut fruit on - I will just get apples and bananas if not, but thought I'd see what you say

Uh, NO!! I had itty bitty cuticle scissors taken from me! The good ones cost around $20 and I was sad! By pairing knife I assume you mean it has a sharp edge, on most planes even in 1st class they use plastic utensils.
No problem in checked luggage. It can't do any harm in the luggage compartment of the plane. About the only things that are prohibited in checked luggage are things that could be explosive.
Note that the original poster is asking about checked luggage, not carry-on. If you look at the TSA list, meat cleavers and ice picks are allowed in checked luggage so I am sure a paring knife is OK.
MY mother checked one when we went to Europe last year. No problem. I routinely check corkscrews which are "supposedly" allowed as carry ons. After a battle with the TSA I decided it was easier to check the thing then listen to them lecture me.
Thank you guys- I think I'll put my cheap pampered chef (2 or 3 $) one in the checked luggage in a baggie with a wash cloth rubberbanded around it to keep it from poking anything. That should be fine - I hope - I will post in two weeks if I have any trouble!
