Hey everyone! :) I have my seat assignment for my upcoming trip, but I am in a window seat a couple rows from the back of the plane. I really need an aisle seat, but there were none available. It wouldn't be so bad if I was sitting beside someone I know, but I am not. I am 5' 8'' and 220 lbs. Would they be able to switch my seat on the day of departure? Do you think I could get a seat in the exit row?

Thanks!

***BTW, the plane is just about "sold-out"***

Aisle seats are hard to come by, many are reserved for frequent fliers. Get to the airport REALLY early and ask for one. They don't assign the exit row seating until you are at the airport, so that might be an option. And think of the bright side, better a window than a middle is you can't switch. And next time request the aisle when you book.

Thanks for the reply, Anne. I flew down in March, and the flight was oversold, so I was stuck with my window seat. Yes, you are right, window is better than middle. Maybe I can try to get myself a First Class upgrade on the way down! Can you use the upgrade coupons in advance, or do you have to wait until departure day?

Thanks again!

Don't know what carrier you are on, so I can't answer that one. Most do it on a space available basis, you can't book it until a week or less before the flight.

Most Airlines hold back a percentage of the seat assignments until the day of departure. Therefore the morning of departure you should be able to call the airline and request a seat change. Some airlines will assign exit row seating to frequent flyers in advance, so you are not guarenteed to get that even on day of departure.

Call and check your airlines policies.

which coupon do you have for the usair upgrade? some let you upgrade 24 hrs in advance and some 48 hrs and some are even longer than that. when are you traveling and what flights?

I know for sure US Airways will assign exit row seating in advance to their elite frequent flyer (since I am one and do get exit rows assigned in advance when I can't upgrade a ticket).

As for upgrading, that's hard to say because it depends on several different factors, including elite status (which I assume you don't have, please correct me if I'm wrong), fare paid (is it full-fare Y, which usually is not the case, especially for vacations), and the type of upgrade coupon (I'm guessing you're thinking of the kind you get for redeeming milage).
