Mary Lou Retton Fighting for Her Life in ICU

Bumping this old thread because MLR obviously made bank on her GoFundMe. According to reports she raked in over $459,000 2 years ago. That was enough so that when she was pulled over for a DUI earlier this month she was driving a Porsche.

Wow. And I defended her back then. My heartstrings were pulled by her illness. I take back my kind words.

What a grifter. Disgusting. I hope she is shamed for this.

ETA: The Porsche was a 2015. So not worth a ton of money and perhaps purchased before the GoFundMe. But still, show some freaking humility and sell it for a Camry or something.

I was just thinking, maybe it was gifted to her during the GoFundMe. Someone might have said, "Here, take the car and sell it for the money." But, when Mary Lou woke up, after her medical bills were paid, it may have turned out to be her one splurge item she was gifted and kept. Also, depending on the condition of a 10 year old Porsche, it might be worth more to drive it into the ground, than to trade it in for a newer, more basic car. Do Porsches break down as much as a Ford? 🤷‍♀️

Thanks for more information about her car. According to the Daily Mail, she got it in her 2018 divorce settlement where she and her husband split their assets 50-50. The Daily Mail said that it was worth $43,000 at the time and the remaining portion of the assets was over $2 million not counting the sale of two homes and a lawsuit for damages from hip replacements.

No matter how you slice it, this woman has no shame. Did you read how it is suspected she will be receiving two million dollars in a lawsuit concerning her hip replacements?

As if it hasn't already been mentioned, it might also be a scam and not about her medical bills at all. Perhaps someone else collecting money for themselves. It seems that if either of those net worth things are true then their is no need for the money. Save it for your own medical expense when you need it.

When I first watched the video, I thought she would do a handstand or flip on that balance board width line. Sadly, she couldn't even walk slowly on it. She had to have been smashed.

It's a real shame to see how bad her health has gotten. She was always so happy and perky.

She still looked fit as far as her body. But the oxygen and her struggling to breathe was alarming, as well as her obvious mental health issues.

I somewhat feel bad for her. Anyone whose life peaked at age 16 is going to have a hard rest of their life, unless they get a lot of therapy. We've seen many TV and movie child/teen stars whose lives went so horribly downhill afterward all that fame & early success. She is an example of a teen athlete whose life ended up similarly.

That’s why I say she would have been better off had the communists attended those games.
