Argh! No, no no! Today is too important of a day for Disboards to be going down! Hopefully this time my post takes.

I’ve been collecting Cash Miles the past few weeks in preparation for STB, but when do I need to switch back to Dream Miles to make sure all 2000 Miles go there? Before the promo starts or the unknown day before they are posted?

In the past it has been the "unknown day" before they post. Will have to see what shows up in the details at midnight.

a bit of info on airmiles website re preference setting:
"changes occur on your account 3 am the following day".

I switched mine from Cash to Dream two days ago.
It has usually been the "Unknown day" in the past--I think during a Mega Mile Promo I forgot and ended up with Cash Miles instead of my prefered Dream Miles.

The timeline for the big promos posting their miles sits around the 6 week mark from the END of the promo, which will be early - mid February. The big miles will post to whatever your account is set to on that day -- you have plenty of time to decide!

Wait!! I started panicking reading this but please tell me if I understand correctly now. I forgot to switch our Air Miles cards back to Dream last night. Which, in my case, worked out because Metro posted the last of the miles I needed to have 3 cash redemptions available.

1) So I switched back to Dream miles today. My 2,000 bonus miles WILL credit as Dream miles on our cards, yes? Please, please say yes!

2) Because the change to Dream miles will not take place until 3 AM how does that affect me today? I was planning on going to Shell to get two $50 Amazon gift cards (STB #1) and Foodland for groceries (STB #2). Will those bonus miles (50-60 at Shell and 20 at Foodland) end up credited as Cash miles because my account is still technically on Cash until 3:00 AM or credit as Dream as my account will be back on Dream miles by the time they deposit?

I think I can do this, though not as easily as years past. Also the cash outlay is higher than I had hoped so I’m not doing an extra insurance offer.. I won’t be spending more money than I have to get their promotion to work properly. I’ll just keep airtight records and make sure I’m credited.

I could probably use the airmiles travel hub offer, but it’s an odd one. It’s got to be booked by the end of the promo which is no problem, but you have to stay by March 31st to qualify. My stay would be early March so no problem there, but it made me wonder if that means these STB miles won’t be credited until after that ? Or if they just trust you won’t cancel ?

1 - yes, unless you change back to cash before then. It's when they post that matters, not when the promotion runs.
2 - anything you do today will post to cash, tomorrow's will post to dreams.

I spent the morning figuring this out. Tentative plans for my card:
Foodland
Global Pet Foods (daughter has a hamster and wants stuff - her money, not mine)
Rexall - I'll use the 190 cash miles for $20 on Pepsi/Tostitos and get the $20 in coupons from Pepsi
Sobeys
Metro - use 95 cash miles for a $10 + slightly more purchase there
Shell - planning on getting two $50 Amazon gift cards
Amazon - using those two gift cards to make my pymt. Between stuff I was getting for Christmas and stuff my daughter wants, we'll make the $100 spend
HBC - convert to air miles as back-up
LCBO - back-up. I doubt I'm purchasing anything but I loaded everything just in case my Dad purchases something on that list

My husband's card:
Shell - gas
Foodland
Spend $40 at Rexall's
Metro - use 95 cash miles
Global Pet Foods - again, my daughter and her hamster stuff
Miss Fresh
Staples - I'm sure between printer ink and wanting a hard drive we can hit $100.. I might trade this for an LCBO though - much cheaper! Surely we can gift something.


SIDE NOTE: Will Fresh2go.metro.ca count a separate partner or the same as Metro? Sobey's and Sobey's Urban Fresh are different.

For the travelhub, when DH did his last business trip (our first time using the travelhub) the miles posted after he completed the stay - so I'm not sure about the March 31 date, that is a bit weird. I wish they had a "book a hotel" not just "first booking" for the travel hub, we have a couple more hotel bookings we need to do before the end of the year.

Right. It doesn't matter when they post, it's when the transaction happened. The date they post as will be today, and today you are still Cash.

I was thinking of knocking off 2 birds with 1 stone. For the airmilesshops I was thinking of doing the Staples spend $100 get 25 and pair it with the spend $100 get 50 air miles. Boom 2 down. Now to get 5 more.

This is a good idea. My daughter's birthday is coming up and she wants a Fitbit. I'd already planned to buy it at Staples with the Spend $150 / Get 50 offer. I don't see anything that stops us buying through AirMilesShops and applying both offers at once.

I think this will be a little harder than some other recent promos, but doable for me:

1. Staples
2. Air Miles Shops
3. Shell
4. LCBO (probably the Novas Gran Sauvignon Blanc)
5. AMEX
6. Miss Fresh (probably)
7. Either Urban Fresh, Rexall, or Children's Place

None of those last three are great for me, but all are doable. If a more reasonable Sobeys or Metro offer were to come up, I'd likely do that instead.

The $100 air miles shops- Chapters/Indigo includes gift cards right? Could buy a couple of books and then $75 in gift cards? Are they physical cards or e-gift cards?

You can do either.

I bought an electronic gift card for the back-to-school Air Miles Shops promotion, and it credited quickly. No issues at all.

YES -- those dreaded tiny words letting you know the site ain't working ..
You have plenty of time to get your account set to Dream since the big promo miles are based solely on what your account is set to the day they post with NO connection to any of your transactions.
Any other miles (base & bonus) from any transactions are based on what you have your account set to on THAT day .. even if they don't post for close to a month (hello our Metro, I'm looking at YOU!!) If i want cash miles i usually trust Rexall for that and then immediately switch it back.

Staples - I'm sure between printer ink and wanting a hard drive we can hit $100.. I might trade this for an LCBO though - much cheaper! Surely we can gift something.

I suggest looking at Newegg for any computer things before Staples -- you earn 1 mile/$20 compared to the 1 mile/$40 at Staples. We've had great luck with them and if you sign up for their newsletter you'll get access to discount codes.

Sounds like my luck last year -- drove me batty till i found some! Whereas this time? I was walking past our Metro yesterday and decided to pop in to see if i could pick some up and one of the regular cashiers met me at the customer service desk with an envelope -- stuffed with 5 booklets that she had put aside for me ... TWO WEEKS AGO!!?!?!?

Ah forget it! I'm going to Foodland. 20 air miles for a $60 spend isn't going to make or break my Dream miles goals. We need milk, eggs and bread and I really wanted the rotesstorie (spelling, I know.. sorry) chicken on top of flatbread with sauteed red peppers, zucchini and sweet onions for dinner. Pizza will cost a heck of a lot more than the chicken and I can get some other needed groceries.

Wait until my son figures out I'm not driving home after I pick him up after school today. What? Like I should make two trips when I can make one?

The clerk there told me that they could only do AM's for gas as they were technically a Circle K store and not a Shell store.

I know that here in the west...the Fly J Shell stores are NOT affiliated with the AM program. It even says in the fine print of any coupon or shell email I have read. And of course, when we do a road trip, they hubby has his favorite gas station to stop at, and you can guess it...it's a Flying J one and not a regular shell station. I have to remember NOT to let it annoy me lol
