Airline ticket question

We just found out that we are getting a new foster child that will be a long term placement probably an adoption placement. Of course we will bring the child with us for our upcoming trip. Because she is a toddler we can't just book her a separate ticket (too young to be an unaccompanied minor and we need her to be seated with us). Is it possible to call and add someone to a reservation? There are still seats left on the flight and of course I will pay the higher fare. I just want to make sure everyone is on the same reservation number in case we need to be rebooked due to weather etc.
Thanks!

Ps I will call the airline and explore a bit but I was hoping for some
Insight while I am sitting getting my hair done.

Since all online fares are "adult fares" I don't think it matters how old the passenger is. I have booked my children separately on both SWA and Jet Blue due to ff miles and or credits that had to be used/booked individually. They weren't toddlers but they were to young to fly alone and it was not an issue.

It may also depend on the airline.

I would call your airline to find out for sure what you need to do.

Yes, you can book a separate ticket for her. Book a normal adult fare (there are no child discounts). You can then call the airline and have them link the two reservations and assign adjacent seats. There is no need to be on the same reservation.

There is no way to add additional people to an existing reservation.

Congratulations!

I would book on line as that is usally the cheapest option and then call your airline. Ask them to "link" the reservations and to note that the last one was for a very young child.

Then periodically check your reservation. Even with linking the airlines screw up and if you catch it quick you can fix it.

Thanks everyone. As soon as she comes to stay I will be buying the tickets and getting the permissions I need to travel out of state with her. Our trip now just became that much more fun! I essentially will be traveling with twins as she is only a couple months younger than my dd
