Southwest gave us $200 in vouchers that must be used in one yr because our flight was very delayed. I'm not planning a major vacation in one yr. anyone ever had luck getting voucher switched to hotel vouchers instead?

No, sorry, I doubt that is possible. But after they expire, you may be able to extend them. With the normal SW credits, you have a year to extend them for 6 more months.

But there is a fee, I forget what it is, I think it used to be $75 but now is $100. The (only) good news is that when you extend it, it becomes a LUV voucher and can be used by anyone.

also I think the vouchers are good one year from your original travel date i.e. - not from when they issued them to you- I have had one in the past that I tossed simply b/c I couldn't use it (ack! I know!)

I am assuming your vouchers were given to you by Southwest for something that happened to you? They are not credits from cancelling a flight? If they are vouchers, they are normally (at least they used to) be good for 1 year from the day they were issued to you. Also, they can be used by anyone, not just you. So maybe there is a family member or friend that will be traveling that would let you cash it out through them?

When we received airline credit vouchers from Delta. We could not use them for Delta vacations. And we also were not planning a big trip. But with free airfare how could we not? So we went back to Disney.

If you can't figure out anything else, use them to live it up. Head to a different state for lunch or dinner one day. Southwest usually has a decent amount of locations you can get to for under $100 one-way.

My BFF & I were going to Vegas in October & she just got a job (she has been a SAHM for 5 years). We would have to use these by March 3, which looks like a quick weekend trip as she is pretty sure she can't get any time off.

How do we go about getting this extended?

they said we can't change the name on the vouchers

They say that, but unless something has changed (and it very well may have) anyone can actually use the voucher. As long as it is a voucher issued to you by SW and not a credit from cancelling a flight. You can always test that out - act as though you're going to book a flight for someone other than the name on the voucher, enter the voucher number and see if it works or if it errors out. I used to travel weekly and gave up my seat quite a bit to earn vouchers, and I could use them on anyone.

DH and I got vouchers last Dec. because our flight was delayed (SW). They had our names on them but told us we could give them to anyone as a gift. The only restriction was you were not to sell them. It actually stated on the vouchers this would void them. We weren't flying this year and I offered them to a coworker that had no problem using them:)

There is no chance they will be converted to hotel vouchers.

You're in Albany and Chicago is a very quick, sub-2 hour flight that Southwest flies non-stop from ALB. Airfare is always cheapest on Saturdays.

Take the Saturday morning flight to Chicago, grab lunch, see a museum and shop, and take the Saturday evening flight back. You don't even have to worry about renting a car, just take the Orange Line from Midway to downtown in 20 minutes.

I've done this a few times, from LA to Seattle, Houston and even as far as Boston (taking a redeye). It's a fun way to spend a day and you don't have to spend money on hotels.

Sorry the voucher is only good on airfare.
The voucher is good for one year from the date SW gave them too you.
And yes anyone can use the voucher no matter whose name is on it. I just used one the other day with my name on it and was able to pay for DH ticket.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Saturdays are traditionally the days with lowest airfare...it doesn't guarantee it, but since most people travel a week or a weekend to maximize vacation time & minimize work off, these are the days people are least likely to travel. Also, business people would tend to travel M-F.
