Air Trans Seating Arrangements with Children

Would you buy tickets to a ball game if you couldn't get tickets together? Would you expect fans to seperate themselves from family members so your family could sit together. What about the circus? Broadway play? Concert? Of course not.

Why is a flight any different? You can't get seats together. Certainly call and see if the CSR can accomodate your needs with seats that are "blocked". Otherwise don't book unless you're prepared to be split.

Please save yourself some money and just go to kayak.com first and search for your flight that way. You click on the link that will open up a new window for Air Tran's website. When you select your seats, there will be NO CHARGE!.

This is what we did. There was NO WAY I was going to take a chance of DD7 having to sit without me on a flight. I'd totally pay the fee to pick seats, but I didn't have to!

I have always flew with Air Trans with purchasing seating arrangments with ticket. However, there is a flight that I need to book for December but there are only a few seats available scattered on the plane. We are a family of 4 (ds4, ds6) and at least one of us need to sit with the boys. If I purchase tickets now and then at online checkin there aren't 4 tickets or 3 tickets together, would they seat the boys that young by themselves?? I would definitely not do that and ds has a very hard time planining with his ears.

Any ideas?? Any advice??

Do not pay for seats that are scattered. I probably won't ever pay for seats on Air Tran.

My kids are 9, 9, and 6 and we took 2 connecting flights on Air Tran last month. We did not choose seats ahead of time. I checked in at the 24 hour mark and saw they had assigned us in seats that weren't even available to choose when I bought my tickets. They had been seats that were marked blue in the front of the plane.

They originally had us separate on all flights, but within eye-shot of each other. I kept the seats for our first flight b/c we were in the front and I wanted to get off the plane quickly for a connection.

However for the remaining flights, I had no problems finding empty seats together at the back of the plane. Every flight I took was booked solid, but at the 24 hour mark, there were more than 20 seats that had not been assigned yet.

So after this experience, I'll always wait until the 24 hour mark. I do not suggest showing up at the airport and trying to switch seats though. Do it online.
