Has anybody flown long haul flights on Air Canada? What is it like? would you recommend it?

I'm unfortunately pretty limited on flight options unless I book two separate legs as non-connecting flights.

If you have a favorite airline for long haul flights, I'd like to hear that too. I'm trying to be as least miserable as possible for 18hrs haha. I always end up on United and I'm just saying no!

*note to mods* I accidentally posted this to budget instead of community-sorry!

For long flights to Europe I like Lufthansa or Turkish Airlines. For long flights to Asia I prefer KoreanAir. Where are you going?

Air Canada is similar to any other major airline. If you book with them, be sure you are not booked on Air Canada Rouge; there's a big difference. Just Google them.

I don't know why you are against United. They are fine, plus you have the option to buy Economy Plus seats, which makes a long flight much more comfortable. You also can pick seats at booking, unlike Turkish and Lufthansa, unless you buy business class.

The last leg of the flight I'm looking at from Toronto to Orlando is operated by Air Canada Rouge. Is that an avoid at all costs?

I don't have any recomendations but am surprised you can't find A good deal going through seattle, sf or la. They are all major hubs for.flights from Asia.

For a trip that short Rouge will be fine, it's just their 'basic' flight option.

Air Canada in general is pretty good, I've used them countless times for trips to/from England and only once (7 years ago) have I had an issue with them. They didn't load children's meals on the plane, so my then 1yr old twins had no meals and they offered no apology at all just a 'there's nothing we can do, the food is still at Heathrow' (luckily I'm crazy-organised so had enough snacks to last a week, let alone a 9hr flight!)

Oh my, that's horrible!!! Luckily it's just me and can manage if they run out of food but small children can't really just deal.

This is true, but unfortunately, many of those flights mean 2-stops if booked as an all the way through ticket :(

I just came back 3 days ago from Venice on AC and was on a Rouge flight from Venice to Montreal. We were a little late in departing Venice and only had about 25 minutes to get through security and customs in Montreal. It wasn't nearly enough time and we wouldn't have made our connection even if we had landed on time. It took over 2 hours to get through security, the passport kiosk and then waiting for your name on the screen to turn green and THEN go through customs. Plus, nobody had any answers for us (our luggage got messed up). After we finally made it through customs it took us going to at least 4 different people before we could get someone willing to help us rebook. It was a very frustrating experience. Also, if you are taller than 5'5" on a Rouge flight you will be cramped.

We flew AC Rouge this past May from Vancouver to Maui and back again. So not long haul but a 5+ hr flight. The price was right, usually we try to fly WestJet or United. It was fine. I didn't find it any more cramped than any other airline. My dh is 5'11" and his legroom was just fine.

We fly Rouge to MCO out of Toronto often. It's a short flight, we've never had any issues. They are often cheaper & we prefer their arrival/departure times. We also fly Westjet & Sunwing when the price is right. But neither has preferable flight times on either leg.

Thanks for all the feedback on Air Canada/Rouge :)

It sounds like the Rouge leg should be fine since it's shorter.

I'm hoping to nab business class on Air Canada if all goes as planned.

Hope it all goes according to plan. :)

Maybe you'll get lucky & score business class on Air Canada's 787 Dreamliner!

I've always had good flights on Air Canada, but United :furious: don't get me started!
