We are considering adding on with a BLT because we can walk to MK. I'm not a fan of waiting for buses. But BLT is expensive and I'm not sold on it.

What would be the next best options, and why?

Thanks!!

VWL, better theming and a boat ride away from the MK.

okay - I'd like some more some other opinions but I see a theme (pardon the pun).

I'd be interested the all comparisons. It's obviously less but less years too?

Is the boat ride a long wait at night? Is it the kind I could take back during the day and go back at nght without a problem?

thanks all!

..and yes bill...before you even write it...I know I should stay there first!

Yes, the VWL contracts will end in 2042. Some VWL contracts have been going for lower prices but there's far less inventory of VWL because it is such a small resort (which could make it difficult, but not impossible, to wait out a steal of a deal). Here's a thread that discusses the lack of available VWL contracts.

I've never stayed at WL but was supposed to for one of my trips and did lots of research on the boats. The boats (one goes to MK the other to CR) take about 10-15 minutes and are very reliable (but bad weather can cancel the boat use).

AKV has a great bus system to all of the parks, although many feel that it is a long ride to MK. If you stay at Kidani, the bus stops at that resort first, and is usually empty. The ride to MK from Kidani has never felt particularly long to us.

We have stayed at OKW and SSR and did not really like the bus system at either of those resorts. We were able to avoid the buses during our recent stay at BWV. We thought that the bus rides from BLT to the other parks were a bit slow, as they have to stop at Poly before heading to the parks. We do enjoy being able to walk to MK from BLT and look forward to doing that in 22 days!!

There are some nice resale deals on AKV out there. They are $25-35 per point less than BLT. Additionally you would have access to CL and the value rooms. AKV contract go through 2057.

VWL is really the only contender. It's a great resort and I've never had trouble getting on the next boat. It sure beats a bus.

Of coarse VGF is coming up, but the prices will likely be even more than BLT. The monorail commute will be faster to MK but longer on the way back. I like walking to MK from BLT and taking the monorail home. By the way, in my experience the monorail has been busier at peak times than the boat to VWL have ever been. (Of coarse it's quite fast once you're on it though...unless you experience technical problems which has happened to me before too.)

I suppose you could make a case for SSR or OKW being "convenient to MK" if you bring your own car (since you can park right outside your room.) Give me BLT or VWL any day.

I think the next two (if you count WLV as choice #1A) are SSR and OKW. AKV sometimes stops at BB which can slow things down. The busses from the epcot resorts sometimes run BC/YC/BW and maybe S & D, so too slow. If I'm remembering correctly the OKW and SSR busses also go the back way to MK (not world drive) which has less traffic overall.

Have stayed at VWL and yes, it is an easy boat ride to/from MK. We have not gone right at closing but shortly before and it wasn't bad.

We have also gone in the AM for opening and they do have a bigger boat they use--at least they did when we were there--to get people to the park in bigger groups.

Of course, it doesn't beat the walk to/from BLT, at least IMO. Last summer, we stayed for EMH until 3:00 am and even with the walk, was in bed by 3:20-couldn't ask fro anything more than that!!

My job is done. :goodvibes

There is a different feel taking a theme boat across the lake to the MK versus taking a bus.

I doubt that most owners will keep their contracts to term. Like most things in life, even at WDW, things will get boring and you might want a change. Keep your ownership for 10 years, then sell and take on the next adventure.

As stated VWL, the boat ride is a very stress free ride.

I don't think the bus ride from OKW or SSR is that bad to MK. Of course you have to ride around the property to the other stops but if you get a villa near the last stop it is not a long ride at all.

The only property I would not recommend for travel to MK are the Epcot resorts.

Honestly I never recommend anyone pick a resort based on transportation. None of it is perfect. Even walking is a major pain if it is raining or really hot. The monorail lately spends as much time broke down as it does working.

I'm holding out for VGF!! all I want is enough points to spend on our anniversary weekend each year. :goodvibes. We are odd in that we bought BWV, specifically for F&W, WLV just for Christmas and...VB to visit the in-laws...and now GF for our anniversary

If you're not a morning person or an "I have to be at rope drop" type person, you could always consider BCV or BWV and take a beautiful, leisurely walk through EPCOT to the monorail to MK. Plus, you can walk to DHS as well.

Does anyone ever ride the boat to BLT and then ride the monorail from VWL, to avoid the bus?

If you really hate the buses, or you want to take the scenic route, that will work. But the bus will get you there much faster.

With the bus, you wait for a bus at VWL, and you're on your way. With a possible 5-10 minute trip over to FW to pick up guests there. Once you're on the bus, it's about 15 minutes.

With the monorail, you:

wait for a boat at WL
walk from the Contemporary dock to the monorail station
wait for a monorail at CR
wait for the Epcot monorail at TTC

Including travel time on the boat and monorail, you're looking at an hour, at least.

That said, I've done it, and I love the boat and monorail. But I'm not usually in a hurry to get anywhere, I don't have early ADRs and I don't do rope drop.

We got our own boat ride to Contemporary...and then we walked to MK...we were the only ones on the dock, so one of the lifeguard boats swung over, pick dus up and gave us a ride...and no, we weren't young hot chicks.:rotfl2:
