Aeroplan to Disney

I think you're right. Too bad. You used to be able to buy actual tickets with your points. I don't think that the redemption value for the GC is great. I believe it's 14000 for 100$ GC. You can get a one way ticket to Orlando for 9-11k points. And that's worth a lot more than 100$ when you're flying AC.

How do we cancel our card? I think I signed up at the end of May and want to make sure I don't get sucked into the annual fee. Can we go into a TD bank to cancel it? Or is it easy to cancel over the phone?

There's no need to go into a branch to cancel. You can do it over the phone. That said, I would suggest that you don't cancel the card -- just call in and ask to switch it to a different card. For example, you could ask to switch it to the TD First Class Visa, which currently has a promo of no annual fee in the first year, and points worth $500 if used on ExpediaForTD, or $400 if used as a statement credit against any travel charge (hotel, airfare, car rental) on your credit card. The required spend is pretty low -- you only need to spend $1,500 on the card within three months to get the bonus. Keep that for a year, then switch back to the Aeroplan card. :)

You can cancel over the phone. You may want to consider "product-switching" to a no fee card from another family of cards such as the Cash-back. The benefit of doing this includes extending your "average age of account" which helps your credit score. You could switch back into the Aeroplan card and get the bonus again later. Prince of Travel has a good explanation of product-switching - including at TD.

Edit: Efrant's advice is great - in fact I think I will take it!

Does the bonus buddy pass expire if I cancel my card before the annual renewal fee would be charged? What if I switch to another low fee TD card, would I still keep the unused buddy pass?

If you cancel or switch your card before applying your buddy pass to a booking, you lose the buddy pass.

Thanks. If I apply the buddy pass to a “dummy” booking, and then cancel the credit card, can I then change the flight later so I could apply the buddy pass to a different flight in the future?

Good question. Sounds like it could work, but I really don't know.

Anyone know if I can apply Air Canada gift cards for my monthly payments on an all inclusive package? I know for flights, you can only use two forms of payment (i.e., credit card, plus gift card/voucher)

Question regarding the e-store and if the answer is what i think we can earn enough to fly one of us round trip to see the Duck in February (fingers AND toes double crossed!)
This just seems to good to be true so please help:

  1. Need a new washing machine (i truly DESPISE the one I bought just over a year ago URGH)
  2. One i want is $1299 at Best Buy
  3. Best Buy's earn rate is 3 points/$1.00
  4. Appliances are under the eligible categories
  5. Currently a 7X event on that includes Best Buy

My calculations are as follows:
  1. Base points 3 x 1299 =3897
  2. Bonus 7 x 3897 = 27,279
  3. I assume same as Airmiles I won't earn the base miles twice so total earn will actually be 23,382 points (27,729 - 3897)?!?!
Thoughts????

That would be my assumption as well. I haven't used their portal yet (all my aeroplan points are currently earned ordering ubereats).

Are you sure Best Buy is 7x? I only see 3x.

YUP! They're part of the back-to-school promo! Hubby got an email this morning with the details which started me down the rabbit hole :teacher::surfweb:View attachment 690748
If I'm not mistaken, I believe the promo is for "up to 7x". From what I can see, the only retailers that are the 7x are:
  • Aldo
  • Apple (until August 7)
  • Aveda
  • Clearly
  • Dyson
  • Indochino
  • Lenovo
  • Sephora
  • Simons

The base rate of Best Buy is 1x, so the Back to School promo is for 3x. If you purchase something for $1,300, you should get 3,900 Aeroplan points (more if you have status with Air Canada).

OK, that makes more sense, bummer that I was mistaken but we still have enough points for one fare. Better than what we currently have with Westjet
