Advice Needed! Friend wants me to go with her on a 4 day trip to the Barcelo Resort.

My friend purchased a $1000 vacation package for 2 people including airline vouchers, hotel & 1 theme park ticket.
She had 2 people back out already & has asked me to go with her in Feb 07.

The catch.... she told me we have to sit through a timeshare presentation.

I thought the $500 per person seemed pretty steep for 3 nights as a timeshare deal & that I could probably book air & hotel seperately for less and ditch the timeshare talk.
She told me she cannot get her $1000 back.

I searched the web on this hotel, and it doesn't look like a glitsy resort at all.... pretty basic looking place.

She isn't married, so why would she be selected to take a tour??
This doesn't seem right to me.

I said I would probably go with her, but I do not want to spend more than $500 (which still sounds a little steep to me)

I also don't want to waste alot of time at the presentation.

Any tips or advice for this trip.
(She is excited because she has never traveled outside of her homestate before)

You don't have to do the tour...she does. You are not her partner, therefore you have no interest in her financial decisions. You don't have to go.

The only reason they require both people at the timeshare presentation is because if you are married or common law, and only one person went, invariable they would say " I can't make this decision without discussing it with my spouse". They want you to make a decision right then and there, because if they let you get away they know you won't come back.

That isn't the situation with your friend, so don't worry about it.
