Advice for Yellowstone????

You had GREAT PHOTOS! You have a beautiful family and the pictures you took of the scenery were unbelievable... But, yikes the stairs going down the cliff looked a little scary but the waterful at the end looked awesome

With your photos and everyone's wonderful experience, I really, really want to go I ordered some of the books that were recommended.

The stair trail (Uncle Tom's Trail) was over 300 steps (like climbing 24 flights!) but the view was awesome! It was a bit scary, because those metal stairs were mesh and you could see STRAIGHT DOWN so if you're scared of heights you may want to try another trail down iinto the canyon The one to the brink of the lower falls isn't scary at all (although it is VERY steep) and it's less than a mile round trip.

Another tip - don't forget sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. (but try to remember to take off the latter for pics - we failed at that a few times...) Even though it's not that hot, the highter elevation makes it easier to burn. Also, if you live at a lower altitude, don't try anything too strenuous the day you arrive. Yu have to acclimate or you can get altitude sickness. Parts of the park are more than 8000 feet above sea level.

Thanks for the tips...I was showing my DH some of your photos and he really liked the mountains/water features too. I can't wait for my books to come.

*sigh* I love Yellowstone! We visited there in 1998 and our DSs were about 8 and 9. We flew into and out of Salt Lake City and drove to YNP. We spent 3 nights at Old Faithful Inn. It was wonderful. Try to stay there if at all possible. But you need to make reserevations as soon as possible. Then we stayed at Mammoth Hot Springs in one of the cabins, but a modern cabin.

I would do it all again. The only downfall was that it was a LONG drive back from YNP to Salt Lake City.

Bringing this thread up so I can see if others have more to add. We are planning a trip and I had started a new thread not knowing that this one was here. My biggest question is figuring out where to stay. Been to Yellowstone many times growing up but the trips kind of run together so I am not sure how far apart things are, but I know it is BIG.
