To comment on all the Ariel concerns:
I've seen MANY bare midriff Ariel's/Jasmines/Ariel's sisters or even other costumes during mnsshp, on all ages! I don't think it's something that matters at all, as long as you are comfortable, and as long as the seashell top will for sure stay in place!

If you're hesitant/not comfortable with it, then yeah, get the skin coloured shirt for underneath!

I went to MNSSHP in DL a few years ago by myself and didn't wear a costume because I didn't want to feel out of place. That was a mistake! And one I'm not repeated at WDW this year when I go! I'm leaning towards dressing as Wendy. I'll have a Kim Possible costume with me as well because it's what I'm running in for ToT, but I don't think I want to wear it two nights in a row with the possibilty of not being able to wash it But Peter Pan is my favorite book and I grew up wanting to be Wendy so why not be her for a night?!

I have to use a scooter (rental, not mine) while I'm at WDW (but it's PINK this year!), and while I guess we'd look cuter maybe if my fellow victorian ghost and I could stroll arm in arm, I'm glad that other wheeled guests are dressing up. I look forward to the day that insurance approves a power chair, as I'm just too weak now to haul my chubby lilttle butt around in my manual chair all over WDW, and my shoulders and hands are just shot with the RA now. Really, anyone there on 10/2 look for a ghost on a pink scooter and her ghost husband! I'd love to meet ya'!

Has any one brought 2 costumes to MNSSHP? I can not make up my mind between Ariel and a fairy. thought it may be fun to do both. First half do Ariel and go to her meet and greet and the second half go as a fairy and go to Tinker Bell meet and greet. Do they allow you to be in costume at 4:00pm when they allow you in the park and if so are a lot of people dressed up at that time or do most wait until the offical 7:00pm time?

I've done two costumes in one trip (one the first night, one the second), and I've done a costume (large wings, full ball gown, jewelry, etc) with a change of clothes (shorts and a tshirt). For what you're planning I'd highly recommend getting a locker. Then, put on your complete second costume at the hotel - the whole thing. Once you've got everything on, take it off and put it in a super large Ziploc bag (the 3 by 2 ft kind). The process seems silly but it stops you from forgetting something.

Yes, you can enter with your costume at 4. That's when I got the best pictures. There aren't as many people dressed up at that point, so you'll get 'noticed' more.

I think I have finally talked DH into dressing up, but only if it doesn't seem to costumey, if that makes sense. I saw a great idea on Pinterest that he approved- DH would be wearing a Superman tee under a button up shirt that is unbuttoned about halfway, along with his black framed glasses....a sort of riff on Clark Kent. I will probably do a simple Supergirl or Wonder Woman outfit with a tee, shorts or skirt and cape. Another thought is Abby and Gibbs from NCIS (I did that last Halloween), but we are afraid it might be too hot in September for the lab coat and sport coat. No idea what the kids will be....guess I need to tell them about the trip so they can decide!
