Adult Cruise Nightlife - Alaska?

The whiskey tasting I went to was in the Cove Cafe. Cozier than Diversions. That might end up being Outlook on the Wonder.
I don't know enough about whiskey to know if it's a "low rent" tasting or not.

It's the difference between 12 year and 18 or 20 year maybe? LOL! I don't drink the brown stuff, so I wouldn't know either. But I think he hopes there will be something new or top shelf, but suspects there won't.

Diversions is the pub but it doubles as a sports bar. That said it is not really heavily sports themed, and it won't be sport-centric unless they're broadcasting some kind of major sporting event. Cadillac Lounge is the piano bar. I find it boring. Drinks are good there though. The nightclub, Wavebands, will have dance music at night, a live band in the earlier hours. To sit and chat, try the Outlook on Deck 10.

Excellent advice, thank you!

What became our routine in Alaska was....late dinner, followed by jacuzzi at the adult pool, followed by the "adult" show at wavebands.

Note, that our dining room was half empty so it was safe to say we were eating closer to 90 minutes than two hours. (dinner with shows, we always had dessert served before Mickey's arrival or flag parade, so we just left after the show.) We didn't feel rushed at all, and fact enjoyed the slightly quicker pace since it was late dining.

On our previous cruises, we had to decide if we wanted hot tub or adult show.

Go see the Pub Night Skit on the last night.

My Disney Caribbean cruise, a 7 night Eastern on the Magic was the first where the ship shut down at 10 pm. I have frequently commented here that Disney is an early to bed, early to rise cruise. HOWEVER, I am just back from a 7 day HAL Alaskan cruise, and it was the same way there, except that the venues were open later than Disney , just nobody there.
Of the 9 cruises I've been on, these are the only two where the ship wasn't hopping into the wee hours of the morning. As a matter of fact, my first cruise, a 14 day Caribbean cruise of of Miami on the now defunct Paquet cruise line, the night club didn't even open until 2 a.m.

What do you do with young kids (ie 6 - 8 year olds) ... do they have activities in the Ocean Lab that let the kids nap or does you kid have to be a night owl to make staying out there work for them?
DS was four when we went last year, and since we were three hours behind time-change-wise staying up for us (and him) was easy every night. He was barely starting to wind down when we picked him up at midnight after he had been playing games with other kids or video games if there wasn't anybody doing stuff he was interested in. There were some kids that were napping on the bean bag chairs though when we went in, they looked pretty comfortable though the dads looked dismayed they had to carry a sleeping child out. :lmao: So it works out whether your kid will want to sleep or to play, the staff will accommodate. Usually they throw a ton of bean bags in front of a movie and the nappers end up there.

On our cruise there was a ton of people at the adult late-night activities (Match your mate/game show style stuff/karaoke/entertainers), but not a lot stayed to dance. Seemed like a ton of them went to the late movie after because every time we went to the movie theatre it was pretty full late at night (either that or they ordered room service because when we called after going back to the room at 1a we had to wait 45 min-1 1/2 hours for cookies and milk so a lot of people were ordering stuff). I enjoyed the piano lounge but it was too slow for DH's taste, and the music wasn't really our kind of dance music (we're more into electronica).

So hubby is a big whiskey drinker, and he was afraid that the selection would low rent. Especially when he saw the term "single malt tequila" in their marketing.

Did you go to any? If so what did you think?

If you are looking for 'something new', I would go to a tasting for a beverage that you don't typically drink. I went to beer and whiskey tastings (which are my drinks of choice) and of the 10 pours I think one was something I hadn't had before. Now, that being said, the pours were generous ($15-20 for five ~1 oz liquor samples, for example) and weren't rail stuff.

The whiskey tasting was:

Single malt (Glenfidditch, "entry level" in this category but there really aren't rail single malts)
Blended malt (Johnnie Walker Black, "top shelf", not everyone's cup of tea but pretty well regarded)
Jameson (standard Irish whiskey)
?some Kentucky bourbon I hadn't had before; wasn't bad
Crown Royal (rye, also 'top shelf')
