The pictures of this little boy's abuse are heartbreaking. So out of control that the 4 year old's testicles were also hit with a branch. Why isn't this man in jail?

I just don't think this black and white. There's a lot of gray. Some people need jail and some need counseling. I do believe his childhood and life circumstances have played a roll in what happened. Not everyone grew up with good role models to know how to parent and there is no manual that is given to you when you have a child.

Do I think what he did was wrong? ABSOLUTELY

Do I think he needs to be burned at the stake and rot in hell? Not so sure, and luckily, not for me to decided. A judge, jury and God will decide

Do I think it's wrong that pictures of the child are plastered all over the internet? ABSOLUTLEY

This case should not be tried in the media

How come no one ever says that when it is an animal that got the abuse? No one ever says the person just needs a little counseling. But beat a 4 year old bloody....eh, he just got a little upset. No big deal!

I will never understand that as long as I live. A 4 year old is certainly as innocent and undeserving of a beating or mistreatment as a dog. And the abuse of a human should be more horrifying that animal abuse. But it isn't.

You get a similar response with an animal left in a hot car vs. a child left in a hot car.

How dare you. How in the world do you know what I say when I see an animal abused??? You have no idea. I NEVER said it was no big deal. You need to check yourself

I agree with you!

Also, if a little girl was whipped to the point of receiving welts in her private area, I am sure this would also be a sexual abuse case. Adrian Peterson is like "Whoops. I got him in the 'nuts'..." He actually uses that word for 'nuts' for whipping his child in his testicles. Welts on a 4 year old's private parts is sexual abuse.

So animalistic to think it's no big deal.

who said it was no big deal??????

People on this thread that are saying they were spanked and turned out just fine. This was not a spanking. This was abuse. No if ands or buts. Blood was involved. Private parts were involved.

Yes I did say I was spanked and turned out just fine. I've also been hit with a switch growing up. I also said he went too far with this spanking. However I don't believe that spanking a child is bad :confused3. I also don't feel he should lose his job over this. Should he sit out some games plus a hefty fine, receive counseling, parenting classes and anger management classes sure.

There has not been one post on this thread that has said what happened to this little boy was no big deal. You are taking things out of context and twisting them.

No but it was said that they needed more of the story to judge. And he shouldn't be TOO severely punished. I disagree.

If you have it in you to 'lose control' like this, you are defective. Criminally. There is no "oops my bad" when beating a child. Sorry, just how I feel.

Lots of people are horrified by both. I have a feeling that the people shrugging this off are the same people walking around in Michael Vick jerseys.

This was more than a spanking. And who said spanking a child is bad, you keep saying it's not, but this wasn't spanking, this was whipping a child until he bled. This is abuse.

yes I would like all the facts, I mean isn't that what happens with a trial a jury hears all the facts and then makes a judgement on punishment. As I said before people are quick to make a judgment call before knowing anything and as I stated before it is that thinking that got the NFL in the mess they are in, doling out punishment in response to outcry then actual facts and as more facts come out they throw on another punishment. I also never said he shouldn't be punished too severely. I just happen to believe that taking away someone's job doesn't stop this from happening again same with the Ray Rice situation. Yes I believe he should be punished but I also think he should be helped as well so that this doesn't happen again.

For the millionth time I understand this wasn't a spanking I have said it a few times that this spanking went too far. To break it down I don't believe that spanking a child is bad, but I do think that taking it to this point is, which I have said. Also to the point of speaking about spanking a child being bad, I was responding to the post that spoke about people who say I was spanked and turned out just fine and then went on to say that was abuse.

Go look for an article that contains the text messages Peterson sent to this child's mother. He freely admits to all of it. Look at the pictures. There's no
reasonable doubt. There's nothing to debate.

If someone grabbed an adult, restrained them, and then beat them on their bare backside, legs and privates until they were bloody, they'd be charged with assault, and thrown in prison for at least a decade. There'd be experts all over cable news talking about sadism. Not one single person would argue that what they did was acceptable.

In fact, what I just described was featured in a torture scene in a recent movie.

If someone kidnapped a child and did this to them, Nancy Grace would get a week's worth of shows out of it. The outrage would blow up the internet. Never mind defending the perpetrator, people would be demanding the death penalty.

A popular athlete does this to his own child.......and it's a spanking that got out of hand. It's discipline. He's just being a strict father.

I really, really wish someone would explain the difference to me. Because this story and people's reactions to it makes me want to become a hermit, live in a cave, and take a vacation from the human race for awhile.

This isn't spanking. It's torture. It's vile and disgusting.

Absolutely perfectly said.

Where do people want the line drawn? Spanking with your hand, with a hair brush, with a paddle, with a belt?

Just opening it up for discussion.

The line is at or before the point when you leave bruises, draw blood, or otherwise cause actual injury. That shouldn't have to be a discussion among civilized people.

I live in the twin cities of course I've seen them. All I'm saying is that we don't know when the appointment was. For all we know is she get him back the same day as the visit.

The sports talk show DH listens to was saying the photos were taken a week after the beating.

I just can't understand the people defending this. I'm not anti-spanking, but beating a young child's rear end, legs, and even privates until he bled isn't spanking. And I agree with a previous poster - the people defending this are the ones walking around in Michael Vick or Ray Rice jerseys. Some of the neanderthals that called in to the radio to defend AP while I was in the car today were downright scary, talking about how much better the world would be if more parents had the "balls" to whip their kids.
