What even needs to be said?

I won't link because the pictures are awful but he has been indicted for alleged child abuse against his four year old son. It involves using a switch on him and like I said, the pictures are pretty awful.

It really is turning into the National Felons League.

Some things are so black and white to me, but need a little more info on this one, he said he used a "switch " to spank his butt "nothing anyone would think twice about ". The charges come from his "ex" wife, and the Court system is ran mainly by the thought a "timeout" is the worse thing you can do to a child. So this might be not much, or the other hand it might be one of the saddest thing to hit the NFL

I dont know how I feel about this, especially since he wasnt trying to harm him. It seems as if it was discipline that went to far and after it happened he did express that to the mother.

The first grand jury refused to indict. I don't think this is cut and dry, like other recent NFL cases.

I agree with a PP that it doesn't seem to be cut and dried. It does look like discipline that went too far because he owned up to it right away. That being said, the pictures are pretty telling. I don't think he needs to be banned for life as some are already calling for.

Really? I remember half the DIS thinking Vick should be banned for life over cruelty to animals, but beating a four year old with a tree branch on his legs, buttocks and genitals until he's bloody might have been discipline that went too far?! Wow. Just wow.

Are we forgetting that another of Adrian Peterson's sons was murdered by the mother's boyfriend? Punishment? Maybe a little compassion would work a little better. That - or quit having children that you can't raise.

Yeah the shear number of lacerations just on the legs that we can see. Doc said also buttocks, back.... that is more than discipline out of hand

I was spanked with a wooden spoon but never was cut or bruised

What does what the mothers boyfriend have to do with him?

This.

Of course, I come at from the perspective of a parent who has NEVER raised a hand or otherwise physically disciplined my children (belts, spoons, switches, whatever!). I don't believe it is necessary to the raising of children.

The pictures are sickening. The child is 4. There is NO way a child should be left bleeding after being "disciplined."

The NFL needs a new culture. It seems like violence is second nature to these guys.

I guess if I had a child of mine beaten to death by someone, I might think twice about hitting my kid.....

I guess I separate the two incidents, where the boyfriend was known to have an issue with assault with not just the child, but the mother as well. With Adrian I dont see this as assault but his intent was to discipline not assault the child.

Well, according to most reports, Adrian Peterson has admitted to hitting the child with the switch.

Maybe the killer of his other child was also "disciplining". I guess in a state like Texas where teachers can hit kids, I find it surprising they would indict him for "discipline". Of course it is two different incidents but as a person who lost a son - why wouldn't you think that hitting a kid would not be a good/smart/right thing to do?

Ita! The pics are absolutely disgusting and then when you think about it being a 4 YEAR OLD! Not that it'd be ok at any age, but he felt the need to beat a 4 year old?!?!....and that's what it was, it was a beating, repetitive. The whole disciplining that went too far is ludacris, he beat him with the intent to physically harm him... isn't that the whole point of physically hitting someone, let alone a 4 year old???

And I have no doubt that as he and his supporters have stated that this is just his upbringing and the culture in which he himself was raised, but that doesn't make it acceptable nor should it give him any kind of pass. His actions were absolutely disgusting.

I have not seen the pics, but according to ESPN the Drs (in 2 different states mind you) felt the little boy was badly injured and when the 1st jury didn't indict pressed hard for a 2nd jury.

The "switch" seems to be an actual tree branch which is something I'd never use on anybody let alone a 4 yo child! I'm not opposed to a swat on the hand if they're getting grabby, but this is a far cry from that.

But what gets me is the response from Adrian. He says he was disciplined in the same ways by his father. :sad2:

I keep seeing the argument, "This is how I was raised and I turned out just fine." Well, I have news for you - no you didn't. You were abused, and now you are abusing.

What he did is not okay. A swat on the bottom I'll let pass but I saw the pictures and that kid was hurt bad. He either needs serious parenting classes and supervision or anger management therapy. Scratch that, make it both. It would be a long time before I let him have unsupervised time with his kid again.

I've given up on the NFL, I've also seen the pictures of what Vick did to those dogs and I wish I could unsee them. No way should he have ever been allowed to play again. Absolutely gruesome and horrific and there is something seriously wrong with anyone that could witness that much less participate.

The sport needs to have some character/morals requirements for the players.

The boyfriend could have been disciplining the child, but I doubt it given his history of violence. Also I taught in Texas and I dont remember teachers being allowed to hit kids :confused3. Lastly he probably didnt think it was bad because of his intent which was to discipline his child, it is not a bad thing to give a child a spanking. Now granted this spanking did go a little too far...

I was a child that got spankings and I believe I turned out just fine. I don't believe I was abused either.....

Actually a switch isnt an uncommon thing in older generations, which is probably what Adrian's father used on him when he was growing up.

Right???

Animal abuser=Satan
Wife beater...got what he deserved
Child abuser? Well...MAYBE hitting your kid with a stick hard enough to break the skin was just a poor judgement call.

Oooooooooooookay.
