ADR at Chef Art Smith's Homecoming

I was just there on Friday, October 21st. I had made an ADR for around 4pm that day so that I could get back to my resort and then head to MNSSHP. I actually arrived a little early (around 3:45) since I was starving and was able to sit at the bar. I was by myself though. By the time I left, the place was not packed. It was definitely picking up, but by no means was it really packed at that point in time.

My guess is that since this is a Disney Springs restaurant they don't have only ADRs. I would imagine that they set aside a certain amount of tables for walk-ups as well.

The food was really good. I think I overdid it on the fried food. I had the hushpuppies for an appetizer. The red jalapeno jello was really tasty and not that spicy. Then I had the Fried Chicken. It was very crispy and tasty. For my side, I had the Mac & Cheese - which was fantastic! Then I had the Hummingbird Cake for dessert. OMG. This was out of the world. The vanilla ice cream was from a local creamery and was very complimentary to the cake. The bartender's were extremely attentive and kept my drinks filled. There was a couple sitting next to me and the bartenders were just as attentive to them.

I was there in September but found an ADR on Disney dining reservations a month or so before. Reservations will likely open up in the next few wks. I had an early 5pm ADR & the place was only about half full so if you can eat early & before 6pm, that will improve your chance at finding an ADR. The fried chicken was very good (but not as good as Orlando's Publix chicken). My mac & cheese side was incredible. I had the chocolate pecan pie which was also fantastic & a huge, shareable portion. Well worth checking out. Note that many of the entrees are generous & 2 people could likely split and save room for a dessert to share.

At my 180 day mark, I could only find ADRs from 4pm-455pm which was too early for us. I tried calling the restaurant, but they were not able to take any dining reservations, but explained that walk ins rarely wait longer than 30 minutes, so we were resigned to chancing a walk in wait. About a month later, I checked ADRs on My Disney Experience app on my phone & saw a 630pm ADR which I grabbed immediately. I didn't consider calling the Disney Dining line. We're looking forward to Chef Art's fried chicken!

I just got an email notification from Touring Plans that reservations had opened up. I went on MDE and it seems like they released the entire day/week that I'm going..which is weird because I'm 62 days out. Oh well, got the date and exact time that I wanted so I'm happy!

Tell me more about this Hummingbird Cake.

The Disney World sample menu does not list the desserts.

What really sold me was the cream cheese frosting on the cake. That will get me just about every single time.

The cake was very moist and extremely tasty. If I recall, it has been 2 weeks now, wasn't awfully sweet. Don't get me wrong, it was sweet, just not overly sweet. But you have to like pineapple and banana since that is part of the cake itself. This dessert would be in my top 3 for my trip.
