Additional Fees???

We are looking into becoming DVC members, but was wondering if there are any additional fees when using points to book a stay at a DVC resort? If a resort stay is 100 points, are there additional resort fees or taxes that are due? Or does it only cost points?

Not at Florida DVC properties. I can't speak for other states. Aulani has a tax, I believe.

No extra fees, as long as you stay on points. No tax, no charge for additional adults, just your dues each year. As mentioned, HI has a room tax.

Just be aware DVC is only covering your room, tickets and meals are still on you.

When you book your room, you're done. So for example, in my case, I don't charge anything to the room Therefore, when it's checkout time, I just walk out. Period. I get a "bill" emailed to me, but it just says $0. In fact, the last one in January didn't even say $0, it just had a big blank space in the middle. It's really great to just walk out, without having to pay more!

As a previous poster said, Aulani resort has an additional tax due upon check-in. It is imposed by the State of Hawaii on all timeshares.

Add the word Currently to each of those above statements. DVC could add a fee just about any time. Just like they just did with deliveries.

Think of it like you had a vacation home at a nearby lake. Assume you paid cash. When you go to stay there for the weekend, you don't pay anything. But you are on the hook for maintenance, cutting the grass, a new roof from time to time, property taxes, etc.
DVC is the same way. When you stay on points, there is no extra fee. But you do pay annual maintenance fees, which cover maintenance and taxes.

You will also probably go more often. So budget for park tickets and nice meals.

I do set up a credit card when I check in. This is because it is very convenient in the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs to pay via Magic Band. If you have a credit card that pays rewards for travel, this has the added benefit of converting any meals, souvenirs, tickets, etc. that you charge to the Magic Band into Travel expenses, which get you 5.25% cash back, on one of my cards.

Unless I'm mistaken, the fee wasn't added by DVC for deliveries - that's a property-wide policy change for any deliveries made to and delivered by bell services at any of the resorts. If you pick up the delivery yourself from bell services, the fee is not charged.

Because I don't have pixie dust in my eyes any more. I paid $50 a point for my OKW points in 1997 direct from Disney. I know what DVC and Disney do.

You don’t have to be madly in love with everything Disney does to still enjoy things. That’s like a thread that was started on the dcl board about why people who aren’t gung ho abut dcl are on the dcl board.

People are complex creatures. And many have knowledge, insight, and perspective that are terrific to help others.

Fwiw I didn’t read “Just like they just did with deliveries” as meaning Dvc. I read it as Disney. Why? Because I know that Disney overall did it, and I know Deb knows that, too. And Disney doing something like this means that we can expect almost anything to change. We can say there are no fees, but that could change tomorrow.

Dvc is a timeshare, not a cheerleading group.
