Adding an additional person to reservation when checking in?

So I have never heard of this, but when looking online saw it mentioned on Plan Disney and a couple of other places. Is there a thing where when you are checking in via mobile for a dining reservation that you can add one additional member to the dining party at that time?

Right now we have a party of 6 booked for a reservation but have a last minute add (local relative is able to join us for lunch) and there isn't any availability for the larger party at the restaurant online currently. I'll keep checking back, but curious if this is another option, or if it's more "bus driver" type hogwash.

Sorta hogwash. It has a place to adjust the amount of people- but it usually only works to adjust down, not add.

You could go to the restaurant early and ask, trying to add a 7th to a party of 6 is going to be harder than say trying to add a 4th to a party of 3.

Personally I wouldn’t want the stress of worrying if they will add to it or not so I’d cancel the ADR and book something where everyone can definitely be together.

Adding a person when checking in via MDE is occasionally possible, but it’s rare. And as above, adding a 7th person would be an unlikely possibility. I agree, visit the restaurant in person early as possible to ask, or consider booking a different restaurant.

What eatery are you booked at? If it’s somewhere like Biergarten it would be easy to add another person day of your ADR. A place like Le Cellier would be more difficult.

The eatery was Yak & Yeti. I actually ended up signing up with Landry Select Club and booking a reservation directly through them for the whole party, just 15 minutes off from our original Disney dining reservation, so it all worked out well.
