Add-on vs. New Contract differences?

With the KT announcement I want to make sure I understand the difference between an add-on vs. buying a new contract. Here is my understanding, please correct me where I'm wrong and tell me what I've missed:

Add-on can be as low as 25 points; new contract starts at 160 point minimum

Moving points between two separate contracts requires a transfer which is limited to 1 per year; add-ons are considered the same contract so transfers are unnecessary?

Existing owners may have opportunity for an "early strike" to add-on at KT? Will incentives likely vary between add-on vs New Contract?

Although I hope to never need to sell my DVC, if I sold a contract that had an add on - would each piece sell separately? I suspect yes since I have never seen a contract with multiple homes on the resale websites? Could I sell one but not the other?

Any other differences to consider?

THANKS to all the disboard DVC experts - so nice to have a place to get DVC advice!!!!

One major difference to consider:

Add-on contracts through DVC directly must have the same UY as the master contract. This can be good or bad, depending where you add on and when you vacation.

For example, my WDW vacations will NEVER take place in the summer (most between Sept - Feb), so I have an August UY.

If I were to add on at HH, I might consider having an earlier UY, since it's likely that I'd want to go there in the summer. I'd have to go resale to accomplish that, or buy at least 160 from DVC direct.

Otherwise, for my WDW points, I'd rather have them all in the same UY, for simplicity sake.

Yes, each add-on can be sold separately. More specifically, each contract can be sold separately. For example, I just added on 200 points, but had them split 100/100 in case I ever need to sell them. I could not, however, sell them as 50/50/100 - only as they were purchased.

HTH!

Looks like you have a good understanding.

I don't recommend different use years. Too much to keep track of. We have some 50 point April AKV contracts that we are getting ready to sell because the majority of our contracts are October and October works better for us.

You are better off with a add-on.

You can bet that new resorts will be higher priced with a higher required minimum point purchase.
