Add-On Points at VB ...

I was considering adding points to an SSR membership via one of the more inexpensive resorts (like Vero Beach). Since most of my vacations are planned within the 7-month window, this seemed like a good idea since I could take advantage of the less expensive points and use them anywhere.

The question is, how would this work? Would I get a pooled allocation of points that could be used at once? ie: Could I borrow from my VB points to book time where I initially used SSR points?

Also, it looks like VB has the higest of the maintenance costs ... I would guess due to recent hurricanes and the like?

Any thoughts on this? Am I perhaps missing something? It just seems like I could get VB points for around $65-70 ... Hilton Head might be a viable option as well considering its maintenance costs are lower.

Inside 7 month, "points are points", so it doesn't matter what resort you own. I would recommend HHI over VB b/c of the lower maintenance costs. Some will recommend OKW b/c it has the lowest MF's. We own HHI b/c of the initial low buy-in and fairly low MF's.

If you book in the 11-7 month window for SSR, you have to use SSR points. You cannot sub for VB points inside the 7 month window, unless the exact same accommodation is not totally booked and/or there is no waiting list for that type of villa. It wouldn't be fair for someone with BWV points to perpetually book Standard View at 11 months with BWV points and then sub other points at 7 months.

So as long as we're within the 7 month period, I can book using some points from SSR and some from HHI/VB? Cool! Are HHI/VB waitlist only at this point?
