A British tourist has lost the tips of two fingers on a log flume ride at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida.

The man lost the tips of his right hand's ring and little fingers on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction on Thursday morning, fire officials said.

The unnamed tourist, whose condition has not been disclosed, was taken to hospital.

Bo Jones, of the Reedy Creek Fire Department, told Sky News it is possible the thrill-seeker did not keep his hand inside the ride.

"We received a call from a Disney cast member informing us that a guest had been injured, so we responded and he was treated at a local hospital. It was a non-emergency situation," he said.

"He was around 57 years old. What the medic told me is was he was saying, 'I had my hand on the side of the boat and I shouldn't have. It was all my fault.'"

Disney officials stopped the ride for safety checks before reopening it later on Thursday.

The decades-old attraction was the inspiration for the hugely popular Pirates of the Caribbean film series, starring Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley.

If that quote is true it explains a bit more

This makes a lot more sense. It just didn't make sense that he could have his hands up in the air, hit something, and lose the tips of his ring and pinky finger. If that was the case, you'd think the tallest middle finger would be injured too.

There you go again ... trying to confuse the whole issue with common sense. :p

Maybe the poor man suffered from a disfiguring deformity where his pinky and ring fingers were abnormally long. Let's not start blaming a man who's only crime was a malformation of the digits!!! How cruel and insensitive. :upsidedow

"
Disney spokeswoman, Andrea Finger..." Really? A little insensitive
I completely agree. Disney should require this person to immediately legally change her last name so as not to offend those who are digitally impaired.

This reminds me of many rides on It's A Small World where children are putting their hands in the water...I'm always the mom who embarrasses my children and tells whoever is involved to get their hands in the boat!

Let this be a reminder to us all to be careful. We are all vets of WDW So should know better but lapses in judgement happen to everyone.

ive just read he is undergoing surgery- then will remain in hospital for 2 days.

my ds has never liked potc-he will not even consider riding again now!:guilty:

Until I read a REAL report on what happened, I'll assume there was a mechanical error and the ride was shut down for that.

I did read the report, but it did not offer a lot of info. I'll wait until there are more details released until I decide what to believe.

With all the links to third party news sources here, that is still not enough to convince you that the ride was not shut down due to mechanical failure (which we now know only happens at US anyway)? If a TV news station and a major newspaper are not REAL reports, I have to ask what is? Never mind. I'm not sure I want to know. #man_didnt_land_on_moon; #birther; #elvis_lives

Did the Space Mountain ceiling snake move to PoTC?

He had to have had his hand outside the boat to the side. There is no way he could have his hands UP and something like that happen. If it did then this would happen way more often since most people do put their hands up at the drop (me included).

However, adults are just as susceptible to stupid actions as kids are. I'm sure everyone has made a poor decision in their adult years that could have turned bad in a second. We just got lucky on all those occasions while this guy didn't.

Settle down, people. It was a joke. Just be glad that it wasn't Andrea Johnson...

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

If i recall correctly, CM's make kids sit in the middle, pretty sure thats the norm

They do, but I have seen so many parents switch places with their kids on rides after they leave the dock. Parents dont care - they just think the Cast Members are being bossy.

Well since this was an adult, maybe they need to switch and have the adults sit on the inside now. ;)

I am sorry am i missing something.....

I have been on POTC hundreds of times.....at what point in the ride is the side of the boat slamming into a wall?

Give me a break. Seriously...have you no human empathy? Gross.

Bulletin! You do not have to be "ignoring" your child for your young child to suddenly and impulsively do something you did not expect - like running into the street, jumping off something, leaning back in a chair, hitting someone, or - yes! imagine! - reaching over the side of a boat. (And if your child, like two of mine, has ADHD, they'll do things like this even more often.)

Accidents happen. Not because society has gone to hell in a hand basket and all parents are crap (because accidents are a totally new thing, that just started happening in the last few years). If anything, most the parents I know are OVERLY attentive, hovering over their children. But kids' brains aren't fully developed yet and they do stupid, reckless stuff that you can't always anticipate.

It is also possible that a child made and impulsive and bad decision and it has nothing to do with being raised by negligent and inattentive parents. Sometimes accidents are just that. Kids are kids and make bad decisions and if this is in fact a 12 yr old, he may have thought maybe I will just try to touch the water at exactly the wrong moment. Doesn't make him a bad kid or the parents bad. Rules are there for a reason and sadly people learn that the hard way. Sometimes the end result is as severe as death or a life changing injury, other times it is just a close call.

I think that is a hard call and could go either way.

My sister-in-law and her husband love their kids very much, more than anything. They nearly worship their own children. Their kids are not "bad children", but they are spoiled and not disciplined very well. They have to tell them over and over to not do something before the kids listen (dont touch that please, xxxxx. dont touch that please, xxxxx. I said dont touch that please. please dont touch that, xxxxx. )

They never raise their voices and they never really enforce anything on them. On the other hand, they watch their kids like a hawk and are super protective. But, when you dont require your children to listen the first time or behave, you are setting the tone for how the rest of society will accept them and treat them. What we teach them when they are small is what we as parents are telling them about how the real world works.

So, parents can love their children and attempt to instruct them on how to behave, but they can be dismissive at the same time.
