Accident on Pirates?

I think that is a hard call and could go either way.

My sister-in-law and her husband love their kids very much, more than anything. They nearly worship their own children. Their kids are not "bad children", but they are spoiled and not disciplined very well. They have to tell them over and over to not do something before the kids listen (dont touch that please, xxxxx. dont touch that please, xxxxx. I said dont touch that please. please dont touch that, xxxxx. )

They never raise their voices and they never really enforce anything on them. On the other hand, they watch their kids like a hawk and are super protective. But, when you dont require your children to listen the first time or behave, you are setting the tone for how the rest of society will accept the. What we teach them when they are small is what we as parents are telling them about how the real world works.

So, parents can love their children and attempt to instruct them on how to behave, but they can be dismissive at the same time.

I doubt anyone here would disagree with a word you said. I'm sure we have all met kids just like you describe.

But that still doesn't mean that a properly raised and disciplined child will not give in to the urge to stick their hand in the water on a ride from time to time. So making assumptions about accidents in an amusement park would be pointless.

Oh, I agree with you 100%. :thumbsup2

Agreed. Even the world's best parents couldn't raise I kid that didn't occasionally do stupid things out of impulse. They are kids, they will try dumb things and not know why they did it...and parents can't stop every single movement.

Adults should know better...but we are also all human and make mistakes and do dumb things...if not, Disney wouldn't have made so much money off America's Funniest Videos.

I do have to admit that I did something really dumb on POTC at Disneyland. There was a ton of water in the bottom of the boat when we stepped in. We were the last to be seated so I didn't have any time to say, hey I want out! So as we go down the big drop all the water somehow ends up flooding our seat. It was such a shock I started trying to stand up as we went down the drop. Luckily that instinct was taken over by the immediate fear of falling out of the boat and being crushed by the boat behind us. I am a generally rule-abiding person who errs on caution. I don't know what the heck possessed me other that the shock of the cold water.

We sat through the rest of the ride in a puddle of water. We were just soaked. I had thin rip-stop capri's on and they were just soaked. I briefly considered wringing my underwear out because they were so wet :rotfl: I was hoping for a hand dryer to stand in front of in the restroom, but much to my disappointment they only had paper towel which I grabbed a bunch of in the hopes that I could at least stop the water dripping down my leg.

Things did turn out okay though. It was quite a warm day and we were fairly dry and comfortable in an hours time. I for one will NEVER ever try to stand up on a ride again.

I'm surprised people haven't chimed in saying, "This never would have happened at Harry Potter Land over at Universal!" pirate: :)

I am sorry am i missing something.....

I have been on POTC hundreds of times.....at what point in the ride is the side of the boat slamming into a wall?

The end it slams pretty hard around.

So just curious, did they fish the finger tips out during the 5 hour shutdown or are they still floating in there?

This sort of reminds me of that now infamous (and sadly true) story of the 16 year old who stuck his head out of the emergency hatch of a double-decker bus... and hit the underside of a highway overpass. RIP, dude.

Another lesson in why keeping ALL of your extremities inside ALL vehicles at ALL times is actually VERY valuable advice.

Ewwwwwwwww.....................:scared:

Maybe they should tweet out that they never found the fingertips. That could serve as a deterrent to other guests.

I used the story as a teaching tool for my kids. I feel bad for the guy, but there are warnings for a reason... :sad2:

Don't think they even need to...I would bet you that before long it is a common story that a guy lost his all his fingers...or entire hand... and they/it were/was never found...maybe before long that someone adds that there are fish in the water and they ate them and will bite your fingers if you stick them in the water.

You know how these stories go.

You're only supposed to leave tips and the restaurants, not the attractions. I think they have to return them.

:rotfl:
