Good question! They would still need to advertise for polling booth staff plus print things out so I think they'd want lots of time but then it means longer for us to bored stupid by their election nonsense

They've well and truly advertised for election booth staff by now - the election has to be held by 30 November whatever happens, so things like staffing, printing (other than ballot papers) etc will be well underway. And believe me, the Prime Minister isn't thinking about the logistical details, he's thinking about the politics and what gives him the best chance of winning!

The minimum period for an election campaign is 33 days. For a variety of reasons to do with timing it's unlikely to be much longer.

Assuming 33 days campaign period, declaration needed on Monday 22 July for August 24 election.

So, if there is to be an earlier election date, looks like we're Monday watching from now until 13 September.
