Abercrombie or Hollister

My friend has one of their bags as a book cover right now. It's a guy in a relaxed pose with no shirt on and you can barely see the tops of the shorts that he's wearing. Then it folds over to where she cut off just the bottom of the bag (she even left the handles on it to carry it better!).

That's an effective way to sell sex, not clothes. If it weren't for the fact that Abercrombie and Fitch was stamped onto the bag, I'd have to start wondering what was being advertised.

Clothing advertisements should feature clothing.

It's the image of the company...that's all. Is it that big of a deal to have hot models? I never thought so.

yea I know what you mean lol. They come across as sexual or w/e because they want their models to be good looking and advertise their clothing well. When people mention the word Abercrombie or Hollister they want people to think of fit and good looking models and not just any type of person. They want their brand to be distinct and not like others.

Don't you think that might be sending out a bad message to young teens? Not everyone on this earth was born with a perfect body or has one.

No because Victoria Secret has the HOTTEST MODELS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

lol...I had to say it

:lmao:
I'm sure you enjoy the VS models as much as I like the Abercrombie male models ;) Hahahaha!

in my opinion, hollister&abercrombie are geared towards the high school+college crowd, not the middle school crowd.

Abercrombie is targeted to people 18+, not young teens. Hollister is targeted to teenagers, 14-18 and that's why Hollister models have more clothes on in their pictures than Abercrombie models.

Exactly. To me, it's part of what alienates me. I'm not what they intended to see their clothes on, thus they tend to look really bad on my body type.

Like I stated earlier, my local A&F (we don't have a Hollister) almost never has jeans over size 7 and I don't think I've ever seen an XL shirt from there.

It's almost like they're taunting me: "You're a size 11!!! Fatty! Look at our supposedly super sexalicious models and drive yourself to anorexia to be like them so you can wear our clothes!".

That's what I get from their ads, and that's alienating a lot of people.

But the other reason that I agree that they sell sex is that for a while they had thongs with phrases like "gimme some sugar" and "kiss this" in the pre-teen section of some of their stores. 10, 11, and 12 year old girls have no business wearing thongs in general.

Young teens still shop there. Why? Because if you dont your not considered cool. Hollister models and clothes all are geared for smaller bodies. Which makes young teens and heck, even older teens feel like there over-weight and diet and diet and diet until they're that perfect model figure.

I agree. Just because these stores may be geared to the older teens doesn't mean younger teens dont shop there and get the feeling that they are fat and overweight because of that stores clothes and the sizes they hold.

exactly my point, their stores are targeted towards people that have smaller bodies and that are fit and not fat. They want fit people to wear their clothes.

IMO...you shouldn't hate a store just because you don't fit in their clothes. But that's just me.

It presents the idea that I'm not good enough to wear them because I'm not super thin like the people they want to wear their clothes. Even if I do lose the small amount of flub that I have, that isn't the problem. It's my hips. They're semi-wide and thus, my doctor says I'll probably never be able to wear anything smaller than a size 8 or 9.

Wait so what you're saying is, if someone doesn't fit in Hollister or Abercrombie clothes they are fat?

I don't like either one, too expensive for my tastes. JC Penny = Same thing without giant names on my clothes.

Honestly I know A LOT of people at my school who are not the exact body type as the models in the pictures and are able to find clothes that fit them at both stores. I don't think its fair to say that you hate them just because they are selling sex or they don't fit you, because honestly sex sells. Look at half the comericials on TV. Most are geared to it some way, they are just a little more subtle about it.

I agree that pre-teens shouldn't be wearing thongs says "give me some sugar" but there are also many shirts and clothing at the stores that are acceptable. Plus Abercrombie is geared toward an older crowd so I believe they should be able to sell "sexier" clothing, and clothing that would show off an older body type. [I am not saying let everything hang out, but I believe they should be able to show off certain curves in women, and a certain shape for men.]

I guess its all a matter of opinion though.

Well I do believe that they should go up to an XXL Tall because not many guys are built for it...I know kids who are 6'4" and taller who cant where the clothes because of height. But there is no need to go any farther than XXL because you shouldn't be any bigger really. I am not saying it is bad to be obese because I have family members who are its just noone should ever be that big

So they don't want heavy or obese people wearing there clothes?

Yeah, that's a store I want to shop in. :thumbsup2

nope, i never said that.
Maybe I'm misunderstand but it sounds that way to me. "their stores are targeted towards people that have smaller bodies and that are fit and not fat"

But anyway. I love A&F and HCO and all but I think they should also have larger sizes. They don't even sell XL, yet American Eagle sells up to XXL.
