So I booked my trip to Scotland so excited but nervous this will be my first trip over seas and my first solo trip!!!! Agghh can't wait! Any advise on what to pack would be greatly appreciated!
Congratulatons on booking this trip! I think you will really enjoy it. We were on the Aug. 4 trip, and even though we got very lucky with the weather (very little rain and a couple of really sunny days), I was fine in a long-sleeve shirt and long jeans on all days. On the sunny days, I would also have been fine in a short-sleeved t-shirt, but I wasn't uncomfortable in long sleeves that I could push up. So you might want to bring one or two short-sleeved shirts, but having mostly long sleeves is what I would recommend. I also brought a couple of pair of capri length jeans/pants that I never wore. For shoes, waterproof hikers are a must. I mostly wore those once we got out of Edinburgh (and, in Edinburgh, I wore sneakers). I did wear flats to the dinners, with white jeans or cords and a sweater or nicer top. I did not feel at all underdressed for those events.
Welcome to the DISBoards and the Adventures by Disney Forum! And congrats on booking your first ABD. I've done 5 ABD's solo, and find it a wonderful way to travel solo!
What departure date are you going on? Are you doing the Adults Only trip? I've been eyeing that one. I'll add you to the Roll Call on our Scotland Meets thread!
Sayhello
Hi
Great to hear you are coming to Scotland. In terms of weather, by September we are very much going into our autumn. Temperatures are likely to peak in the 60's during the day time but overnight can be quite cool (low 50's).
In Scotland we tend to dress in layers. I would definitely bring a proper waterproof jacket. I tend to wear a t-shirt with a fleece on top and then a outdoor jacket. I would also advise walking shoes such as trail shoes. Trainers (or should I say sneakers) are fine for about the city. The wind chill is noticeable on the East coast (Edinburgh). You will be able to pick up a hat, gloves and a scarf here if you feel the cold. I've grown up in Scotland and I still feel the cold. My winter gas bill is testament to that! It would be worth packing some pyjamas
for night although it really depends on the level of heating in the hotels. You may still get midges so an insect repellent is a must.
It is just your luck you could have some lovely sunny autumn weather or it could be very rainy. Don't be put off by the weather. In Scotland we have learned to say "There's no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothes!" Scotland is a beautiful country and I am sure you will love it.
Hi Kat!!!! Glad you joined me here! I'm just now getting into this side to plan for our ABD trip which is starting to look more like China now! Until now I've been on the cruise board!!![]()
