ABD Backstage Magic 7/31 - 8/5/11

Woohoo!

I'm signing my forms now and just emailed Kevin, but thought I'd ask here too. I noticed that two different dates are listed on the forms. On the "Reservation Confirmation," it has the correct date of July 31-August 5, but on the "Adventure Travel Agreement" it has the start date of February 20. I'm wondering if this is a mix-up or because that is the first group going in the three trips that are set up. Did anyone else notice this?

At least you have your papers. I stll don't have mine!!:sad2:

And yes the Wonder does have a great spa and I wouldn't mind a roommate :rolleyes1

Hi all,

We just returned from spending the weekend with some DIS friends in Hershey. We had a great time. I keep telling myself not to obsess over this trip since it really will take care of itself. That's just kind of hard for me to do.

There was a lot of discussion about pre/post stays. If you are planning a stay and the Disney hotels are out of your price range and DVC doesn't work for you there are plenty of reasonable hotels within walking distance. We have stayed at the Desert Inn because we wanted a suite (dated but livable and cheap) and the HoJos (quite nice). There is a ton of hotel info on the DL boards.

I am now off to obsess about our January DL trip...

Plans for today were to figure out tickers (done! :yay:) and to order some of the books on the reading list. Ordered: The Imagineering Field Guide, and Jim Henson: The Work, The Art, The Magic, The Imagination. :cool1:
Now I just have to force myself to only read these AFTER the academicy-stuff is done :sad2:

Im reading Lee Cockrell's book right now. Which isnt on the list but I can use it at work. Actually you may want to read that too.

.. maybe on my next Barnes and Noble trip I will see what they have since so far Chapters has had nothing I have been looking for.

If you are a fan of the Muppets or Sesame Street, then the Jim Henson book is a great choice! The Illusion of Life is also excellent. The book that I highly recommend (but it's not on the list) is Neil Gabler's biography of Walt Disney. I love it!

I'll have to look into the Jim Henson book. I just added the first season of the Muppet show on my Nexflix list! I just finished the Neil Gabler book two months ago. I really liked it. It gave me some new insight into Walt's life. I also read the Bob Thomas book on Roy. Really liked that one. I'd like to find time to go through both these books again before next July.

Morning, Adventurers!

muggise - I agree. This past weekend just flew by! How does it do that?

FYI...everyone double-check your travel dates on your paperwork. I emailed Kevin about mine and he has to have another set sent. Apparently this has happened to a few other people already. Maybe we're scaring ABD? ;)

What's on everyone's agenda for today? I'm hoping to finish a work-related book, Igniting a Passion for Reading, by Dr. Steven Layne. I am finding it absolutely fascinating and highly recommend it to the teacher adventurers here. I'm trying to get myself in the mindset of being productive after a long summer. All in all it was fantastic, but I've spent way too much time being lazy!

Have a good day all!

Please do not be alarmed if the dates on your TRAVEL AGREEMENT are incorrect.

WE have had TWO people receive travel agreements with the wrong travel dates.

These are just misprints and can be easily corrected.

Good Morning.

I called in sick from work.. Its the first time I ever had in the 2 years I have worked there. I do feel pretty crappy. But saving $800 on our Feb trip did make up for it.

Im probably going to take it easy today, sleep, read. etc.

Hey everyone - Seems my sister needs an extra day to recover from her birthday celebrations this weekend :P
- just asked for a quote on my Feb WDW holiday from Dreams Unlimited - can't wait to see how the just-announced discounts added up. :flower3:
Also had a look at dining options for dinners solo with the DH. We want to stay at Caribbean Beach so checked out menus for food spots there - and heard the hilarious review of the horrid Shutters. I think I hurt myself laughing about the 'Autopsy and Slime' dinner!! :rotfl2:
Off to campus now to try and get some prep done for the looming new term.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Sounds like a good choice re: assuming leadership positions and all that. If you send me the bibliographic info I can see if we have it in the uni library - with a business school we just might :cool2:

Hi all,

Just catching up quick over lunch. Our Junior students started back today. Hard to believe I have to start lecturing again. Feels like finals were last week.

For those of you that keep count I just made my first intern in the new class cry. Not not really my fault. She was having a bad day and I was the straw that broke the camels back.

Ugh. The weekend really did go by way too quickly! The weekdays slog by slowly and weekends fly by so fast. It didn't help being sick either. DH and I are both sick now, major sinus infections and such. At least it didn't hit until after our ABD trip a few weeks ago. Whew!

I really wish I could win the lottery so I wouldn't have to keep doing the Monday through Friday law firm work... I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go... :rotfl:

Good luck with your Mondays everyone!

I can't say I noticed on ours, I'll check the rest of the docs later. Would be a bummer to show up and not have our names on the list :scared1:

Hope you are feeling better soon.

I confess that I love the reviews of the horrible places far more than the ones that are good. DH while half listening to that review, said "what's that restaurant called... Shudders?" - I think maybe they should rename it! :rotfl:

So for those of you who went before. How much of the stuff at Disneyland ( for sale) is the same as the stuff at Disney World?

Ive always wanted a plain hoodie with the old Disneyland Logo on it and nothing else.
I saw someone wearing one once and Ive always wanted one, ( Yes that is actually one of the reason's I want to go)

Im also going to the world in Feb. Just wondering how far this homoginzation has gone.
