AAA Discount Buyer Beware

I booked a room only with Disney today with a AAA discount. When I asked about discounts on packages with dining with AAA, the Disney CM told me that I could get it but I had to call AAA. Three years ago when I used a AAA agent and then checked the Disney website, I questioned the Disney CM on why the price was lower than AAA and she responded "you know that you are paying 600 commisson ?"

The CM was misinformed, and it was probably in his/her best interest to convince you to book with them instead of AAA.

Commission payments are completely separate from the transaction with the customer. Disney pays the commission to travel agents after the completion of the booked reservation; that fee is not passed onto the customer.

I booked our trip thru AAA, it is a package and they have been able to save me approx. $600.00 for Dec. 8 - 15 at the CR with DDP.

Just got a quote for a trip trough AAA.....

Would save me about $112. But with the $40 membership fee that would make the savings around $72...so about a nights free stay at Pop. So not bad, I'm still considering it.

Her office in the chicago area is the top ranked AAA travel group in america. yes i've seen the awards with my own eyes. we always get a great deal from AAA either for WDW or DCL and even Cedar Point. if your AAA agent doesn't seem to have a clue as to what and where then I M me and ill send that info to you.

I received a quote higher from AAA than what disney had quoted me. I then asked what costs were quoted and amongst the several noted costs was the AAA travel agent fee. When I inquired how much that fee was I got no specific answer. This was from the AAA office in Bloomington, IL.
AAA will charge you a fee if you are not a AAA member. Fee is waived for members.

Also, the AAA agents in NY do get commission. I asked this specifically when I was in booking my vacation package.

AAA saved me $236 at POR on the same package that I had originally booked through WDTC.

NEVER assume AAA has the best rates for anything! Yes, the do offer good rates at times for some services, but it's not always the best rate...

When we were planning our first trip together in 1997, we got pricing on disney.com and then went to AAA thinking we would get a discount. AAA's price was exactly the same as disney.com.

For our trip in May, we were using the AAA discount for a standard room at POR. Then I found a code here at DIS and the code offered the same discount as AAA for the mods, but it offered 40% off a standard room at a deluxe! AAA only offered a 10% discount on the standard room at the deluxe. I understand that AAA only has a set number of rooms at each resort, but ***The point of today's lesson is: Always check all resources before booking any type of travel to see who really offers you the best rates.

9 times out of 10 when I am booking hotels for stays at places other than Disney, I get a much cheaper rate booking directly through the hotel's website using their internet-user rates.

I absolutely agree. Even though I cancelled our package through WDTC and rebooked with AAA because they saved us a significant amount of money, I am still researching and holding out hope for a code to come out that may be even better. You never know...

I had GOOD luck with AAA and the rate the gave me...here is what we have booked.

Just got back from my AAA office here in NJ. I called last night and had a 10 day reservation at Pop for 10 days first week in September with Park Hoppers and meal plan. When I gave the package details to my agent she let me cancell my own reservation and she did it over saving me $166.68

My airfare with Air Train direct was also $76 cheaper than Disney! $$354.60 RT two tickets.........

Last year we saved a bit more than $300 off 8 nights at the Poly for 5 of us with hoppers and DDP. This year we're saving closer to $400 off the same thing.

Yes, if Disney is offering some great codes, you'll likely do better that way. But we always go in July, and there are rarely codes then, so AAA is by far the best.

Plus I have saved money off of many hotels elsewhere using an AAA discount. AAA is not always the cheapest rate, but it often is. And sometimes, it is the only way to get a discount at Disney.

Hi CruiseCrazy,

Which Chicago area office are you referring to. I would love to pick one that would be good to work with in the future.
