I am doing a small introduction tonight and will hopefully get this trip report up and running this week. I am so excited to share our experience in Disney during the downpours this past week. We had a blast!

The Cast of Characters...
Me:teacher: Very recent college grad. Earned my degree in Bachelor of Science in Education just the day before we left for our trip. My favorite Disney character is Ariel, along with many others of course, and some of my favorite Disney movies include The Little Mermaid, Toy Story, Aladdin, The Lion King, and more! I did most of the planning and research for this trip, with the help of the awesome DISers on this board.

Mom (aka R) :surfweb: (she;'ll kill me for putting this picture up on here, so I won't tell if you don't tell ;) This is R, my mom. She works for Social Security Administration and is an awesome person! I'm her only child, so we are pretty close! Her favorite Disney character is probably Tinkerbelle, though I would have to verify that with her. Not quite sure of her favorite Disney movies, but I am willing to bet they are the ones from my generation.
n72001134_31187836_7749703.jpg

I did meet up with one of my very best friends and one of her friends during our trip, as well. They were just two doors down from us, K and A. We had a blast with them, as well.

Our dates...
May 18-May 23, 2009

Our accomodations...
POP Century Resort- 50s Building facing Hourglass Lake (thanks to K who told the cast members at POP that friends of her's would be joining them on vacation later in the week and would LOVE to have a room close to them)

Dining plan...
Disney Basic Dining Plan

Park Ticket Option...
Park Hopper Pass for 5 days

Airline information...
Southwest both for arrival and departure flights

I hope to talk about our experiences, including rides, restaurants, drinks, and of course the lovely weather! As you can tell by the picture in this introduction, we were quite upbeat and positive about the weather. I kept saying, "It's raining this week because a higher power knew we could handle it and some other guest and their families could not."

Stay tuned! We truly had an awesome vacation and would love to spread a bit of the magic with everyone. We have pictures and maybe even some videos to share, as well.

See ya real soon :mickeyjum

Followed a post chain from your post saying you had a great trip, read your PTR and now I'm going to wait for more updates on your TR! :woohoo:

Great trip in the rain!!! Can't wait to hear about it! popcorn:: I'm leaving on 5/29 & the forecast doesn't look very good for us either! :sad2:

Just got back tonight from our trip 5/17 - 5/24 at BWV and guess what was happening when we got off the plane - IT WAS RAINING!! Our plane was leaving at 7:25 and when we were at MCO the thunder, lightening and rain started again. Everyday from Sunday night it came down so fast and for so long it wouldn't drain - ankle deep Friday by Winnie the Pooh in MK, we couldn't see Beach Club or Spaceship Earth from Boardwalk. Tornado warnings, lightening, flooding. Almost needed Noah's Ark to get home. BUT, we had a great time but it will be a long time till I want to see another poncho. Would love to hear how you made out.

I admire your positive attitude.:thumbsup2 I can't wait to hear more.popcorn::

Thank you! We tried.

By the end of the trip, I ripped by poncho right down the middle and threw it out! I know how you feel.

Thank you to everyone who is on board! And thank you for being patient. I am going to post my first installment today. Also, Happy Memorial Day :cheer2: Thank you to all who gave up their freedom to fight for mine.

I'm ready to read your report, too! A friend of mine is getting back today. She arrived in WDW on the 17th.

Can't wait to hear more. I love your attitude about the rain. We leave in less than 2 weeks and I think rain or shine I will just be excited to be back at WDW!

I should warn you all now, I am attempting to do this TR in installments with links. Bare with me, please, if I completely screw this up :lmao: Here we go!

So Sunday was the big day...no, we didn't leave for the World, but I was graduating from college! Woo hoo  My parents, grandparents, and my boyfriend's family (parents, sister, mommom) attended the commencement, then we all went out to an Italian restaurant and ate family style. It was a fabulous day. Here are a few pictures

One of my best friends. My roomie all four years and also a HS friend!

My wonderful grandparents

It was a great day, and I was so happy to share it with the people that mean the most to me.

Sunday was a loooooooong day. It started about 6ish in the morning and didn't end until 6 or 7ish at night. We got home, and my mom starts getting panicky that we're going to forget something for the next day. I had no worries until it was about 11pm, and I realized I had more to pack than I thought!

Woops :rolleyes1

So it's getting towards midnight, and here I am scrambling around the house. between opening cards, uploading pictures and videos onto the computer from graduation, and saying goodbye to the boyfriend, then finally packing...it was a pretty crazy night.

We all went to bed, and I was convinced I'd be up all night, excited about the trip.

Boy was I wrong! I slept like a baby that night, thank goodness :thumbsup2

My alarm was supposed to go off at 4:15am, but at 4:12 I was up and ready to go! I got a shower, packed very last minute things, and off we were! I couldn't believe the day finally came. Here we are on the way to the airport! My daddy, the Disney hater, drove us.

4626_521647078631_72001134_31187746_649828_n.jpg

I should warn you now...get used to seeing the same ball cap and brown hoodie. With the crazy rain we had, my frizzy, curly hair had no choice but to stay underneath my cap. Trust me, no one wanted to see what I was hiding under there :scared1::scared1::scared1:

We got to the airport, checked in, walked through security with no problems. I didn't feel like we waited that long and before we knew it we were on the plane!

We took Southwest for the first time, and I must give them a plug...they were great. They must send their flight attendants to comedy school or something because they are hilarious (more to come about that on our flight home). They really make you comfortable about flying.

So we're in the air on our way to Not-So-Sunny Florida, and I am failing at an attempt to fall asleep. I couldn't figure out how to put the seat back, so trying to take a nap when you're pretty much sitting forward is not so easy!

We hit a bit too much turbulence for my liking on the way up. The pilot warned us we would hit some bad weather in Southern Georgia, and we sure did.

All I could think about was crashing somewhere on an island for months where no one would find us, we'd have no communication, and there would be scary natives who would try to hurt us :scared:

...I don't watch LOST or anything...

We landed later than scheduled because of the weather, but whatever, we were on the ground and that's all I cared about! I couldn't hear anything whatsoever because I have pretty bad sinuses, but like I said...if my feet are on the ground, I'm cool!!

We breezed right through Orlando International, the shuttle, and we found the Magical Express with no problems. And, our first sprinkling of pixie dust pixiedust: We waited less than five minutes for the ME! It was awesome!

This was my mom's first time using the ME, and she enjoyed it. We were riding for what felt like a while when all of a sudden I saw it!

n72001134_31187747_85483.jpg

Ignore the ugly orange cones and construction going on.
It's just so convenient! We made our first stop at Caribbean Beach Resort, and it looks beautiful. I would love to stay there someday.

We were next...here we are!

4626_521647093601_72001134_31187749_8069565_n.jpg

Love it! This resort is so cute, and let me tell you...as much as I LOVE Disney music, this resort plays the BEST music because it's from all different eras. I spent many days dancing in the rain waiting for the theme park buses to the great music.

So if you saw a crazy girl dancing to "Macho Man" while waiting for the Magic Kingdom bus, I apologize if I traumatized you or your child.

Anywho...We checked in at the online reservation desk (which was hard to find, by the way) and the cast member gave me a celebration pin! He let me write my celebration on the pin :thumbsup2 Super cute.

Our room wasn't ready yet, so we met up with my friend from home in her room. We left our carry ons in her room and made our way down to the POP food court. I had a delicious tuna sandwich, and my mom had a cheeseburger that she wasn't crazy about, but it would do.

Our room was ready not too long after we ate. We went to our room, lake view in the 50s section, and completely crashed! We were exhausted between my graduation Mass on Saturday, graduation on Sunday, and being up so early to catch a plane today.

We slept until about 2:00, and it felt great. Right before we left for Epcot, our luggage showed up. Good timing! I should say at this point, it started to storm and pour. For those of you who haven't heard by now...I am not talking about the normal Florida rain in the middle of the afternoon. Oh no, this is like hurricane-type rain. YIKES!

This is when I first said to my mom, "Ya know if it rains during this trip, that is fine. We are going to be blessed with pixie dust in other ways. I know we will. I have a good feeling." I figured, why fight the rain instead of just working with it? So that we did.

We walked down to the bus and caught a bus for our first park.... Epcot!

So...
How was our San Angel Inn dinner? (the one I was really worried about because of all the negative reviews)

How did we get our second and third sprinklings of pixie dust?

How did I make my mom cry?

All coming up next! Thanks for reading. Sorry if it got too long!

continued from part 1...

So we were on our way to Epcot by way of Disney Transportation bus. We had our umbrellas in hand and had not yet bought our very fashionable Disney World ponchos.

We got to Epcot and realized we had some time before our 4:30 dinner reservation at San Angel Inn. Mom went to look for a smoking section while I looked around at one of the World Showcase's large gift shop.

As I was browsing all the cute Disney stuff, a very sweet Cast Member asked, "So what are we celebrating?" I told her I just gradated college yesterday and was here for the week with my mom. She congratulated me and asked what I majored in. I told her Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She then asked how the job market was looking, and I told her I applied for about 8 school districts so far, but I was told not to get my hopes up because it's becoming harder and harder to get into a school district. She wished me luck and we both went on our way.

About a minute later, I got my second sprinkling of pixie dust pixiedust: The CM came back over to me and said, "Here is a little pixie dust to help you find a job." She then gave me a Tinkerbell pin that said 'Where Dreams Come True.' I think it's one of those pins that you can only receive from a CM. It was such a sweet thing she did, that I almost started to cry! On a side note, I have been so worried about finding a job. Everyone talks so negatively about the job market (even the commencement speaker at my graduation, for goodness sake!) that it was starting to get me down. She just totally lifted my spirit about the whole situation :lovestruc

So I met back up with mom, and we headed to San Angel. We checked in about 15 minutes early, and we were seated right at our time.

Our waitress was very nice and attended to our table the whole time. She brought us yummy chips while we waited for our order. We both ordered the Pollo a las Rajas. It came with chicken, peppers, and onions over a cheesy sauce. What I liked so much about it was the fact it was served OVER the cheese sauce as opposed being smothered with it. We also both ordered the Fiesta Margaritas.

HOLY COW THESE THINGS WERE HUGE! :worship:

Let's just say I did not take a picture of me drinking the margarita because I was looking pretty happy only about 15 minutes in. I mean, I was lik 50 sips in and the darn thing wasn't moving!!

We both very much enjoyed our dinner. I was so nervous because of the reviews, but I thought it was great. The restaurant itself is so beautiful. I would go there again for the same dish or to try something else. Delish :yay:

So after walking around and enjoying the World Showcase, we headed to Japan to pick a pearl.

I should backtrack here... my mom saw a link on the boards about picking a pearl in Japan and sent it to me. She knows her daughter adores pearls. I made the decision then that I had to do this!

So mom bought me a ticket to pick a pearl. I get a number and finally it's my turn to pick. The cutest Japanese girl was working behind the counter, performing the ceremony. It was so sweet! They get so into making a huge ordeal about every pearl that is picked. It really makes you feel special.

I knew as soon as I walked through the door of the store which oyster I wanted. It was as if it was calling my name... "D...pick me...pick me.."

I pointed to the oyster I wanted, and the CM tried to pick it up once...it fell. Twice...it fell. Third...it fell again! Dang, this is one stubborn oyster!

When she was finally able to get a grip on the thing, she opened it up and said... "This is a very special oyster. Do you know why?"

"Uh oh," I thought. 'Why?'

And...for our third sprinkling of pixie dust pixiedust: ,....

THERE WERE TWO PEARLS INSIDE:cool1:

I was so shocked because deep down I was PRAYING I would pick an oyster with two. Why? Because I really wanted to put one in a setting for myself and one in a setting for my mom.

After I picked the pearls and they were clean, the CM measured them and found out there wasn't just two pearls in the oyster, but they were twin pearls, measuring at about 6 1/2 cm.

My mom stepped out of the store while I looked at the settings, and that's when I decided... a ring for me and a pendant for my mom... but that last part was a secret :thumbsup2

About 20 minutes later we returned to the store, and that's when I surprised my mom with the setting. Here is a picture I took in POP when we got home that night

4626_521647238311_72001134_31187778_4458137_n.jpg

Yeahhhh that's when my mom started to cry. I told her to stop otherwise she'd make me cry! I wanted to know something special for my mom for thanking her for the trip. It was nice, and it will definitely be a memory of our trip whenever I wear it.

So moving on from sappy moments... we decided to go to Downtown Disney. We grabbed a bus to Old Key West (as recommended by a CM) then headed to DTD. I must say...Old Key West looks like a beautiful place to stay! Just lovely.

We did some shopping in DTD and bought a few things in the World of Disney store for our family and friends.

n72001134_31187760_1580985.jpg

We were in that store for a looong time!

On the way back to POP, the one thing that really bothered me during this trip happened.

The bus back to POP was VERY crowded. The line for POP in DTD was horrible. Most of us started a line, and then at the last minute, people just stood around that area, not attempting to organize themselves in any way and just pushed everyone on to the bus. This really brought out the ugly in some people because I heard someone say, "I was nice all day in this rain. I am getting on this bus!"

I felt bad for those people because they obviously had a rough day in the rain. And some of these people were being very rude.

So we're on the bus, and I see a young mom in front of me standing. Not only was she standing in the dark on this bus by herself, but she was holding onto her toddler and also the stroller.

Yes, that's right, not ONE PERSON offered up their seat so she could sit down. I was appalled. The ride felt like forever, and at one point I said to her, "I don't know how you do it. I need to hold on to two poles, and I'm just with myself! How are you doing it with a baby on your hip?" She laughed and joked about not needing exercise for the day.

It was really disappointing. Even in the Happiest Place on Earth, no one offered up their seat. :sad2: Just sad.

After DTD, we hit up the POP food court for some snacks and went back to the room for the night. It was an excellent first day of our trip, with much pixie dust! We were very much looking forward to the rest of our vacation, even with all the rain!

Up next...
Would we make it to DHS rope drop or would we sleep in because of the stormy weather?

Did I find a DECENT cup of coffee in the World?

Would we enjoy a video game-type of game, Toy Story Mania?

Did I eat all my veggies at the PTC?

Stay tuned!

I can't stand seeing a woman or child stand on a bus and the guys pretending they don't notice. If the guy sitting isn't on crutches, than he's just rude. The pics of the pearls came out really nice. I hear alot of people talk about it but no one ever posted a picture. Keep the updates comming, I need to know how to deal with all this rain down there right now!

Awesome updates D!

I love the LOST reference! LOL! I've watched every episode and I'm right there with ya!

You almost made ME cry with the pearl story. Ok...so I did cry, but you can't see me so prove it! :)

And my DH gave up his seat every time we rode a bus with standing room only. I told him he didn't have to stand EVERY time, but he said his mama raised him better than that! What a shame that no one gave up their seat for that mom....shame on their mamas! ;)

Congratulations on your graduation:thumbsup2

great start to your TR. I love the picture of the castle in your first post! We had quite a few pixie dust moments our last trip and it just makes the memories so much more precious!

what great luck getting twin pearls! that just makes the gift all the more special!:lovestruc

Looking forward to hearing more!

Sorry about that, I never did say congrats on the graduation! My cousin went to Cabrini and is now a teacher 10 min from PHL airport and her EX went there for nursing, very good school! Keep your head up on the job hunt. You'll probably need to start out as a Sub but it will turn around before you know it! Feel free to PM me any questions for her, she's really cool and would help out if she can.

It was a bit frustrating! I just felt so bad for her. Her little girl was a trooper, though. She was so good. And thanks about the pearls. We love them. Have a great time on your vacation! Is it calling for rain?

lol! Sorry didn't mean to make anyone cry ha. I just couldn't believe my luck!

Yeah I would totally never expect a guy to give up his seat to the average gal! I guess it's because I'm from a different generation, but still... I would expect anyone to give up a seat to a mom attempting to hold her child AND a stroller! Just crazy.

Congratulations on your graduation:thumbsup2

Don't you j ust love pixie dust moments like that? I feel like they always happen when you least expect them.

Thank you, and omg that is too funny! I never mention my school because no one really knows anything about it. And it doesn't surprise me your cousin went for teaching. That's what most of us go there for :thumbsup2 And thanks for the advice and offer. I really appreciate it.

Hello again, everyone! I left off with a very nice start, despite the rain, to our vacation.

The next morning came fairly quickly. I looked outside as soon as I woke up.

Maybe it's not raining. It's probably warm, sunny, and absolutely beautiful!!

umm No. Come on, girl, you should have known better than that :lmao:

But it's okay. We would not melt in the rain, and we'd keep on going with this fabulous vacation!

I should mention that sometime between our second outing the day before and this morning, we purchased our ever-so-fashionable Disney ponchos. I was SO NERVOUS they were going to cost like 12 dollars or something ridonkulous. Thankfully, they were only around 8.50 or so. WOOHOO :cool1: Not too bad.

So anyway, that brings us to this fabby picture
n72001134_31187761_4028757.jpg

Yes, it is the one from my introduction. It's just too fabby not to be posted twice.

You can almost see the hint of crazy in my eye :scared: I was fully prepared to take on this rain!!

We woke up early to head for DHS, or, as my mother says, MGM. Ma said it will never be DHS to her. She just cannot fathom calling it that. Oh momma.

We were on our way to rope drop and there was hardly anyone else on the bus. I love being early birds! Here we are on the bus ride there

4626_521647158471_72001134_31187762_3665950_n.jpg

No, I am not bald. My hair is back in a bun because I knew the hair would never cooperate with the weather.

So we got to DHS about a half hour early, and there was hardly anyone there! It was awesome and weird at the same time. Once we finally were led through the turnstiles, I was waiting for that comical act to start with the director and whatnot. I've never seen it in person before, but I knew what to expect.

15 minutes to open...nothing. 10 minutes to open...nothing.

At about 5 minutes to open, I realized the rope drop show would probably not open. I can only assume it was because of the weather. It was rainy and storm clouds were out, but it hadn't yet started storming. No biggie though. I'm just ready to open the park and see what this Toy Story Mania thing is all about!

Now...I have to tell you about what I saw about 3 minutes before they dropped the rope.

There must have been some kind of high school group there the week we visited. There was a group of about 4 high school boys next to us...and these boys were SERIOUS about TSM.

I mean, they had a runner's stance going for about a full five minutes before they dropped the rope.

At about two minutes before, they start rocking back and forth on their heels while in runners' stance.

I told my mom, and we just start dying! It was really one of the funniest things I had ever seen! That's when mom said, "Um yeah we're going to let them go ahead of us."

Well DUH! I don't need to see ANY ride badly enough that I might chance getting stampeded by high school boys! :rotfl2:

So the rope drops, and they're off! It's like the running of the bulls....or what I said as we were walking through... "OMG It's Black Friday! RUNNN!"

We didn't run, no. I wasn't making my poor mother run at 9am in the morning for a ride. No, no, we walked fast, and we did eventually make it to TSM.

I was expecting a line for the fast pass to be about 50 people deep when we got back there.

But no, thankfully, there was probably 4 people in front of us. I could tell already that the crowds for this day would be light. Sweet.

Fast passes for a 10:25 return. Awesome! We headed to Rock'N Roller Coaster.

4626_521647168451_72001134_31187764_1765364_n.jpg

I must back track once again to fully prepare you for this next occurence...

Rewind back to April 2005, my senior class trip to WDW. My HILARIOUS friends convince me, a non-roller coaster rider, to ride RNRC. Eh, I don't know. I like Aerosmith's music. Sounds cool that it's indoors, but I don't know. I'm not into roller coasters, and I don't do upside down ones.

"Na, it's alright," one of my friends say. "It doesn't go upside down."

Really? Okay. Let's try it!

I'm standing in the absolutely horrific long line, and I'm about to lose my lunch because I'm so nervous. Legs and hands are shaky...the whole bit.

So we get in the car, and I think...This is strange. Why would this bar come over my chest if it doesn't go upside down?

And off we go, faster than the speed of light!

My eyes, mind you....CLOSED THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE RIDE.

When we got off, I was ready to murder my friends.

Then I thought about it for a while and decided...

THAT WAS AWESOME :woohoo::worship::woohoo::worship:

So fastforward to present time... I am convincing my mom, You will be FINE! I don't even like most roller coasters, and I can do this one. It's awesome. You will love it You might hate me at first, but then I promise you will really love it!

so as we are breezing through the nonexistent line (literally there were about 10 other people in front of us, just breezing through)...I hear her say

"No, sorry, can't do it."

And she makes her way toward the chicken exit.

WHAT?!?! all that convincing all these months for NOTHING?!

I was so upset but rode anyway....literally all by myself with no one else in the car.

When we looked at the pictures at the end of the ride, you see one lonely rocker chick throwing up the rock and roll sign. It was AWESOME :rockband:

And mom, if you are reading this, I will get you on that ride one of these days. You haven't escaped just yet!!

After mom's traumatizing experience, we made our way towards this very lovely building....

4626_521647163461_72001134_31187763_2550962_n.jpg

BWAHAHAHA! I lurve this ride. It's so creepily thrilling and awesome all at once. What I love most about it is the building and queue itself. If all hotels still had that old Hollywood glamour, I would be in heaven :cloud9:

We waited about 5 minutes or so for this line. As we're riding, ma is freaking. When we got off she says, "I don't ever remember there being this many drops!"

Well duh, ma, you were here like 5 years ago! She is so silly

Here is a picture of us after riding

Next up was Starring Rolls for breakfast. I think mom got a bagel or some sort of pastry, and I got a bagel. It was pretty good. I was hoping they had a real cup of coffee here because I had sworn I read that they did.

I was wrong.

Dead wrong.

They call this stuff coffee? :scared1:

No but really, I drank most of it because it's better than nothing, but it was just...yucky.

So after our little breakfast, it was time for this guy

First time riding for both of us... and I must say this ride is RIDICULOUS!!!

We both LOVED this ride. Absolutely loved :lovestruc And I will say neither one of us is video game people at all, as you can tell by our awesome scores

OUCH. Who let these two on?

But yeah, it was amazing and anyone who is just a lover of Toy Story absolutely must do this ride. I cannot wait to go back with the boyfriend because he will never want to leave this ride between his love for TS and video games. 5 stars all the way from us. Because we loved it so much, we grabbed another fast pass for a return time of 4:35. Perfect because we had dinner at the PTC at 6.

Saw this because it was one of my favorite's as a child

Then we rode Star Tours because it was always a favorite of ours. While waiting in the line we saw this guy sneaking around...

He scared the bejesus out of everyone in that ride! Holy moly. There was also a Darth Vader and goodness gracious they were just too scary! Creepin around like that...

We had lunch at Pizza Planet.

Mom had a veggie pizza, and I had some sort of salad. Very cute place and the food was decent.

After lunch we looked around in a lot of the shops while it completely DOWNPOURED. Whoo it was bad. We enjoyed looking through the little shops.

When the rain slowed up we made our way to the Writer's Stop. I looked at the menu, desperate to find real coffee, when I saw it...

100% Arabica Coffee

ALLELUIA!!!! :worship:

It was delicious. If you love coffee, go there while you're visiting. It will be heaven to your mouth, I promise you.

After our coffee, we made our way to the front of the park, onto the bus, and own our way 'home.' It was a great start to our second day, but we wanted to rest! We had dinner reservations at the PTC with my other friends, and we were looking forward to some yummy drinks, good food, and of course riding TSM again!

Sorry this was such a lengthy update! I will post the rest at another time. Thanks if you made it through this one!

Up next...
I will address the vegetable issue at PTC.
Will I catch Voyage of the Little Mermaid, the show about my favorite princess that I haven't seen since the very first time I visited?

Til next time!
