A warning about re-usable mugs!

Just to spite the mug police I am not only going to take my mug from 2007 and reuse it but I am also going to take it to Club Cool and fill it with free soda.

This tread isn't about whether to reuse mugs or not. The entire purpose of the thread is that her bag was searched, and her items broken. I would be calling and filing a claim because even though I agree with them searching, they should still respect the passengers personal property. How would they like it if I searched their locker and broke their favorite coffee mug and just went on with my day? I am willing to bet that they took the cover off and it probably fell on the ground and wasn't noticed. i would still call and and make it known.

And to all you mug police: just get over yourselves already. The issue has been hashed and rehashed enough. :) Stick to the main purpose and topic.

Yes! I do this all the time! In fact, I bring all of my gatorade bottles and fill them up as well! I bring them home with me so I have enough soda to last me a week or so after we get home. And sometimes I'll take off my shoe and use that as a cup to hold my free soda while I dip my feet in the fountains to cool off.:rotfl: it's so refreshing!!

The OP's post reminds me of a similar incident which happened to us. We had packed our special pool hopping bathing suits in our suitcase. We like staying at POP and using the pools at the GL and Poly. When we were unpacking at POP, they were gone, and we found a TSA note indicating that they'd inspected our bags. I think WDW might be paying TSA to help crack down on illegal mug use and pool hopping.

Lee Cockerell who was once Executive Vice President of Operations of WDW said he didn't care about the refillable mugs, use them as much as you like.

If Disney can no longer be bothered to make original designs every year, or make them resort specific like they used to, they no longer care IMHO, no matter what signs they put up.

So if they haven't changed the design by June next year, I will sure as heck use them again. It would be Disney's fault for not changing the design, they can't tell.

If they do change the design, I would buy new ones, cause that means they are actually playing an active role in deterring it.

Just my 2 pence worth.

To the OP: I am sorry your mug got broken, that really sucks! They are great to use at home. :goodvibes

I don't even have to read this thread because I know exactly what is posted. It never changes.

OP, thanks for the warning. The TSA should really be more careful with people's things.

LOL, I have about 20 of them. I might just take them all and interchange them for the week.

To the OP, I am reading your post exactly as it is written, thanks for letting us know not to put the lids on the mugs when packing.

I stopped buying mugs when the price went up from $5.99. Unless you are a coffee drinker they are just not worth it. They hold less than 12 oz with ice and I can buy soda from the Hess stations on property for (2) 12 packs for $6.00.

This. I do not buy the mugs because they are too expensive and they hold too little.

I do not get why people continually say "You can't re-use them" after a few people already said it. Get over it.

To the OP's ACTUAL problem, I'm sorry that TSA had damaged your property. They have damaged mine as well many times so I know it sucks :(

But, to the people who whine and complain about the mug police: There wouldn't be any mug police around if people would be honest and not break any rules.

To the OP...I'm sorry that TSA was so careless...I don't know how many times I have flown and then gone to pick up my suitcase and have be all marked up, dented or even have a broken wheel. Sometimes it feels like people just don't give a hoot about the possessions of others.

To the OP, thanks for letting us know. I'll be sure to pack my re-used refillable mug differently in less than two weeks. :cool1:

To the rest of you, calm the heck down! Go catch some jaywalkers if you need something to do. At least then you'll get some fresh air

:thumbsup2 Love it!!! I agree. Until I am TOLD PERSONALLY by a DISNEY employee, not a disboarder with too much time on their hands, not to reuse my mug, I will be bringing them back as I always have.

A little off topic, but same problem.....

My wife and i went to see the mouse in August. When opening our luggage, we found all of our belongings covered with suntan lotion, sunblock, and other liquids. We had all of these items in gallon sized ziplocked bags, and they were sealed tight. We also found our prescription bottles open and some of our pills mixed in with the suntan lotion. To top it off, we had a calling card from the TSA saying they inspected our bags. Needless to say we were not happy.

So, for those that go the mouse often, you may want to consider this option :thumbsup2

Yikes! :scared1:
I guess I will be rethinking my packing plan for early December...

option 1
pack a separate bag of just toiletries, but this doesn't solve the medicine sunblock soup issue

option 2
carry on all travel size and buy there if needed

No I did you not they "TSA" do this to be funny at times. We have been on vacations 12 times over the last 7 years 25% our luggage is messed with and has one of the department of homeland flyers. We have found anything from shampoo squirted all over, nail polish opened so it leaks all over, wife’s 45 dollar biosilk hair product that was full before the plane ride and came home empty, all of this liquid was in plastic bags came home they where out. My wife’s sweatshirt she bought from WDW was missing. Oh and my fav. was the two tins of chew tobacco "no one chews at our house hold" we added to our bags. All problems where at MCO and the last time I wrote a formal complaint. I would like to add my friend who is a pilot did say that some of them do it deliberately as they have full authority and think its funny. All for keeping us safe but come on really?

Am I the only one who misses the resort specific mugs? :sad1:

I fly 4-5 times per year and have never had any checked luggage messed with. Don't know why not. I pack liquids in gallon size zip bags packed flat, make sure that I don't stack books on top of each other, I use one of those TSA locks, and I NEVER put prescription drugs in a checked bag, they either go in my purse or a carry on bag. Hope my luck holds. But, back a few years ago when they were doing searches more frequently, I was always one of the people who had to have my carry on bag thoroughly searched at the gate before boarding. Don't know why about that either, but one time the security person was a young woman who was squeeing over the cuteness of the little sock monkey lucky charm I had attached to the handle of my bag. I don't think she could have cared less what I was actually carrying in that bag.

So the sign stating that at the mug refill station (and the new printing on the mugs from what I understand, but haven't seen myself) doesn't apply to you, I guess?
