A warning about re-usable mugs!

Yes! I do this all the time! In fact, I bring all of my gatorade bottles and fill them up as well! I bring them home with me so I have enough soda to last me a week or so after we get home. And sometimes I'll take off my shoe and use that as a cup to hold my free soda while I dip my feet in the fountains to cool off.:rotfl: it's so refreshing!!

:lmao:
Thanks for the great tip, I'll have to remember that one for next time! :rotfl2:

I have about 40 mugs that I'll be bringing right after thanksgiving. Meet me at club cool and they're yours for only $4.00 a mug. It's a great deal!

Zoinks!!!

There's a really simple solution.

If you like to follow the rules that are not enforced by Disney, please do so.

However, if you see someone else who decides to push rules that Disney does not enforce, please remember that it will more than likely do no good to say something to those people, and may not do any good to report it to a CM.

It would seem to me that letting something like this bother us on vacation is just setting ourselves up for no good. Why let it get to you and put you in a bad mood. Water on a ducks back, right?

The OP only posted a warning about when putting refillable mugs in your checked luggage that they may get broken.

Unfortunately it seems to me that whenever anyone posts anything remotely related to refillable mugs anywhere on this forum, it inevitably turns into whether it is moral or ethical to refill your old refillable mugs.

Truth be told, the only people who really care if someone reuses a refillable mug purchased on a previous trip to Disney are the people on this forum :sad2:

:thumbsup2 There are like 3 other refillable mug threads going on right now. When I'm on vacation I don't care what anyone else is doing. Sure, I noticed a couple of people using old mugs just because they were right next to me or walking along with them, but I DON'T CARE. Personally, I like getting new ones, and because we've done the QSDP the last two trips, they were included.

Life is too short to be so worried about what everyone else is doing. I love being in the food court and seeing the variety of mugs. I have seen everything from a 7-11 Big Gulp to a Sea World mug. It cracks me up.
Yes, it is a rule that you aren't supposed to bring back old mugs, and if you don't want to then don't! Does it hurt your vacation if someone else does? Mmm.. it shouldn't for sure!
Personally, I like buying a new mug each trip. I use mine everyday at home and they get pretty worn out from all of the use!

OP - Sorry your stuff got broken. I hope you have a better experience next time!

Now, you have to know that using any old mug to get soda would most certainly be stealing!

This tread isn't about whether to reuse mugs or not. The entire purpose of the thread is that her bag was searched, and her items broken. I would be calling and filing a claim because even though I agree with them searching, they should still respect the passengers personal property. How would they like it if I searched their locker and broke their favorite coffee mug and just went on with my day? I am willing to bet that they took the cover off and it probably fell on the ground and wasn't noticed. i would still call and and make it known.

Agreed. I'm so tired of getting those little TSA tags in my bags - it always means that my carefully packed items were randomly strewn about and shoved back in, and I always worry that something didn't make it back in and I won't notice. I guess it's good that I've been taking shorter trips so I can just do the carryon!

Personally I think the mugs are too small anyway so I bring my 64 ounce insulated mug and fill up...never goes dry!

I am not going to get into a debate because I think it is a silly topic. However, I was just stating what I have seen and the fact that I think it is funny when people bring in a flipping Sea World mug to use at a Disney resort. Don't you see the humor in that?
I never said that it was not "stealing." If you use any mug other than the one you bought for THAT trip, then yes, it is "stealing." My point was it cracks me up how people get so bent out of shape about it. Honestly, it really is just not something I would spend precious vacation time on getting upset about. That's all.

Lee Cockerell who was once Executive Vice President of Operations of WDW said he didn't care about the refillable mugs, use them as much as you like.

If Disney can no longer be bothered to make original designs every year, or make them resort specific like they used to, they no longer care IMHO, no matter what signs they put up.

So if they haven't changed the design by June next year, I will sure as heck use them again. It would be Disney's fault for not changing the design, they can't tell.

If they do change the design, I would buy new ones, cause that means they are actually playing an active role in deterring it.

Just my 2 pence worth.

To the OP: I am sorry your mug got broken, that really sucks! They are great to use at home. :goodvibes

Lee also said to stay out of the lakes and they do have alligators. :rotfl: :rotfl: You will only understand this if you listen to the DIS Unplugged podcast.
Oh I could care less if everyone reuses the mugs!
OP thanks for the warning. I will make sure I don't pack it with the lid on. I will be buying a new one because the three I have are ALL THE SAME! I am sick of looking at the same mugs! I don't ever drink $13.00 worth of anything in them at WDW. But most of the time I buy a mug anyway. It is some kind of sickness I think. I must buy the mug. :sad2:

Question for those that do seem to care.

If I only use my mug for the filtered water is it ok to reuse it each visit?
If I buy an new one and bring my old one can I refill them both with filtered water?

(The only soda I ever drink is the free soda in Epcot)

I am not sure why you even purchase the mug. Seems like a waste to me.

off topic, but this is just too ... spooky ... lol. I got scared just looking at it!!

I stayed at ALL Star Music for one night in Dec 2007. I saw a boy around ten fill up one of those plastic popcorn buckets with Coke. The CM's said nothing. I was kind of entranced because there was still popcorn in the bucket. I figured if he is going to drink that with the popcorn in it than more power to him! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: He drank it. It was one of the grosses and strangely funniest things I had seen at WDW. :upsidedow

Hey we were all told by the ME bus driver what a great value it is to purchase these mugs because you can re-use them 5, 10 ,15 years from now! Bus Drivers know all! I will Re-use my mug until the handle falls off or until Disney actually cares about endless free refills! Yay free refills :yay: Boo to anyone who actually lets it bother them while on their vacation :rolleyes2

To the OP's ACTUAL problem, I'm sorry that TSA had damaged your property. They have damaged mine as well many times so I know it sucks :(

But, to the people who whine and complain about the mug police: There wouldn't be any mug police around if people would be honest and not break any rules.

Why do you whine about people that break rules when the rule maker doesn't care?

So the sign stating that at the mug refill station (and the new printing on the mugs from what I understand, but haven't seen myself) doesn't apply to you, I guess?

I'm illiterate. Next.
