A warning about re-usable mugs!

And so, that never ending question finally gets answered...'So, are there really refillable mug police???' Evidently...yes.

Many people come here, to the DIS boards, asking what the policy on refillable mugs is. And most of us try to give the rules according to what Disney has posted...mugs are good for the duration of the stay in which they are purchased in. That's what the signs say, that's what the mugs say (or something pretty similar...haven't seen the brand new ones yet). Do people reuse the mugs on subsequent visits? Yes. Do Disney CMs stop them? No, not very much.
However, we have seen a few reports lately of CMs commenting on refilling mugs that are not the 'current' style...so obviously being reused on a 'subsequent trip'. Not many reports, but they are out there.
Does Disney care? Who knows. But if someone asks me what the policy is, I'll give them the ruling as Disney has seen fit to post in their food court areas. Doesn't make me the 'mug police'...just makes me someone who is trying to correctly answer a question.

Did I call you the "mug police"? There is a huge difference in stating Disney's official policy and acting up in arms over the fact that Disney doesn't bother enforcing it much at all and people take advantage of that fact.

Wow people, get over yourselves. It looks like the DIS Boards lynch mob is out and in full effect. The OP posted a simple warning about her refillable mugs getting broken and everyone has their panties in a bunch. Calm down! There are worse things in the world.... Geesh! Now all of you people who "are just sooo honest" make sure you never go past the posted speed limit and come to a complete stop at stop signs. Maybe you should write a book on how to be perfect. :lmao:

From one redhead to another..no, no one called 'me' the mug police. But I have been called that many, many times when I simply stated the rules Disney has put out there. There is way too much angst here as to whether or not reuse a mug. For crying out loud...you (the general you, not you specifically) ask about the policy, or see it posted somewhere. Decide for yourself what you want to do.
I have close to 20 of the darned things....some mulitples, but from different resorts. And from different time frames, so they can't be reused easily. Have I brouight an old mug back with me? Yep, just one time. I had bought the mug at POP but was there for only two nights. When I returned to POP, about 6 months later, I was going to be there for only one night, before moving to BWV. So, I reused my mug....shudder. Do I take great delight in pulling a fast one? No, not at all. I just figure that the $13 I spent for 3 days use was okay. You will never see me chastise someone else for reusing a mug, on later trips. But on the other hand, I can't be bothered lugging the darn things back and forth with me either.

..... and next week there will be another similar thread on refillable mugs and everyone's interpretations on policies - maybe on this board, maybe on another - but they all end up the same way .... CLOSED! :lmao:

Question for those that do seem to care.

If I only use my mug for the filtered water is it ok to reuse it each visit?
If I buy an new one and bring my old one can I refill them both with filtered water?

(The only soda I ever drink is the free soda in Epcot)

Beverly?!

Sorry, didn't mean that to sound hostile - tone can be tough to decipher on the interwebs.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, we purchased 2 a couple of months back at POFQ but were only there for a couple days, so I really don't have any moral dilemma about re-using them next week.

Rules are rules...people break 'em all the time. No one is saying they are perfect. And, I don't think anyone has their panties in a bunch. This is a very calm thread compared to some. It's usually those who come along and compare reusing refillable mugs to not stopping at stop signs or speeding that cause the uproar...the comparisons are hardly similar. Doubt that anyone's life is in jeopardy when the person next to them in line is reusing a previously purchased refillable mug.

:thumbsup2 Looks like we'll be there at the same time. Hope the weather cooperates and we have great, sunny weather. Hope your trip is wonderful.

I think it's tacky and cheap. Especially using an old style of mug, basically just daring someone to say something to you.

And I'm surprised the OP isn't "Joe in the Know".

And if Disney doesn't care, I don't understand why so many other people seem to.

It's because too many people are like Ferris Bueller's sister.

Charlie: What do you care if your brother ditches school?
Jeanie: Why should he get to ditch when everyone else has to go?

Well stop acting like someone's life is in jeopardy. Get over it! It's just a friggin mug.

Instead of jumping all over the OP for reusing the mugs, why don't people just read the the topic for what it is really about? I dont know why people get off topic with something that it is not really about. I just dont get it.
I think everyone on here already knows about the "mug rules".

Maybe the OP brings it back because it is the only cup they have with a lid and the OP brings Crystal Light or something NOT from the soda dispensers to the parks. Who really cares, it's not what this was about.

A former Cast Member who use to work for the Contemporary told me the reason they have these rules for not brining back old mugs is so we can spend more money on them the next time we come back. He then told me the reality is no Cast Members really care about the mug rules, because WDW gets all the syrup for free from Coca Cola and in return they get free advertising all over WDW. I was also told because of that WDW does not lose money if guests decide to bring back their old mugs.

That doesnt' shock me at all....so they're getting it free...so if you're a resort guest...why not just give you free sodas like the casinos in vegas...it's just fountain pop....

Good point. After all, I bring my Disneyland "souvenir" mug back, just for environmental reasons, even though I get to pay full price for the coffee I put into it.

Though I put it in my carryon, so I don't have to worry about it being squished, since we have all soft luggage.

I was also told because of that WDW does not lose money if guests decide to bring back their old mugs.

Well, they are certainly losing the money they would have made if people bought new mugs....

Not that I was asked for my input...However I feel that I have THE BEST adv. there is...ready?
You can pick you friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can pick you friends nose!
AAAAHHHH...huh...I know its deep...but I am sure you can find the "hidden" meaning in it
