A Very Pleasant Good Alaska Cruise - May 2014 Disney Wonder TR (Updated 1/18)

Even though it's slightly disturbing, the mosquito legend kind of makes sense. They are incredibly annoying little buggers.

Still enjoying your report, thanks for continuing to share. :)

Agreed. Luckily, we were so bundled up throughout our trip that we were never bothered by any mosquitos. I guess that's one advantage of the cold.

Thanks for continuing to read along :)

Loving all of your trip and "real life" reports! Keep up the great work.

Btw, now that you've lived 10 minutes from Disneyland, ever think of moving 10 minutes from WDW? Haha. I can attest that it is awesome!

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying reading along!!

We have thought about moving near WDW, but the weather is always a pretty big deterrent. Plus, now that we're back close to family, I don't foresee us moving back to the east coast any time in the near future. I certainly won't rule it out for someday, though, even if it's not until we're old and retired. I'd love to have the experience of being a WDW local.

It's so funny, since that was our same table the very next week in Alaska, but we had completely different servers and a different head server (we were on a different dining rotation). We loved Cindy, though. We met her on the 3rd day of the cruise when we dined in Triton's for breakfast and then we saw her throughout the cruise in different dining locations. She was always so nice. We left her a nice comment card.

Hi all! Just updating to let all you faithful readers know that I've started my Pre-Trip Report for our upcoming land-and-sea DCL/WDW vacation over on a new thread that you can find here. I'd love for you all to weigh in with advice/ideas. Thanks!

Members cruise to Alaska next May for my and my family, thanks for all your travel adventures.

That is really funny! Good old Table 7. It's crazy how they have to have three complete staffs for the different dining rotations. And I'm glad you got to meet Cindy and enjoy her excellent service! :thumbsup2

That's awesome! You're going to have such a great time, and I hope our experiences can help get you extra excited! :cool1:

Thanks so much for these reports - they are so helpful! The suspense is tough, though, waiting for the next reports :)!! I am on my first cruise to Alaska next year, the 7-day cruise, so I am anxiously awaiting the reports for the ports we will visit. What was the cost of the Alaska cruise blanket? That one is on my must-get list during my trip.

I have a request...how do I find Sarah and the other staff on instagram? I put in#dclalaska but I get so many photos!

The captain really is everywhere. One evening, on our way to dinner, the elevator doors opened and there was the captain, bent over in the elevator, picking up paper off of the floor.

I think the question on everyone's mind is....did he drink the water? ;)

:rotfl: You know, I had absolutely no idea when you asked this. I talked to Tracy, and she seems to remember that he had to have the water taken away because he nearly knocked it over. I think it might be a lost cause. :rotfl2:

I'm so glad that you've been enjoying the reports!! You'll have such an awesome time on the cruise next year, and I promise I'll get through the reports on all the ports you'll actually visit before you sail! The cruise blanket (I think) was $20. It's the 2014 logo, though, so it'll probably be different next year.

It was much easier to find people using the #dclalaska hashtag on our cruise because we were the first ones of the season! I'm sure by now there are thousands and thousands of pictures, but when we checked there were only a few. Sarah is @sarahrivas89, and then we just went through the people she followed and found a few other faces we recognized from the cruise staff. Sounds a little stalker-ish, I know, but that's just one of the perks of social media. :rotfl:

The train ride already sounds like so much fun, and you've barely started! :)
There's nothing like wood heat when you're truly cold. I grew up with it, and I miss it (but not the mess) when winter hits.

It was so much fun! You'll see that we enjoyed so many gorgeous views during the remainder of the journey. :thumbsup2

And I agree with you about wood heat. Nothing I've ever really had to depend on before, but it's always so toasty and comfortable when I've experienced it.

Great TR. I hope you get a chance to finish bc you're just getting to the towns we'll be visiting next summer on our (non-Disney) Alaska cruise. Can't wait to read the rest.

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying reading along :) I'll definitely make it to the end eventually—it just takes a while for me to get through each update! I'm thinking it'll definitely (hopefully) be done by the time next summer rolls around, at least!

Awesome update! That list of supplies was so interesting!!

Glad you enjoyed it! I thought that part was interesting as well! :cool1:

Yay! Great updates while I was away - thanks! Can't wait to see what else you do in Skagway.:goodvibes
