A Very BIG Move for One Little Girl: A Disney College Program Planning Diary New 8/14

The Disney Toms are ADORABLE!!!!!! The different designs on each shoe go together really well and it is like the whole magic kingdom resort monorail expereience. Your friend did an AMAZING job!!!! I wish they sold shoes like those because I would SOOOO buy them!!!! Your park bag happens to be ADORABLE as well! I love vera bradley bags so much but they cost so much! I really need a new vera wristlet so I'm considering going to this less expensive outlet near where I live.

I seriously can't get over those Toms! I keep looking at the pictures. By far my favorite thing is the Mickey balloons. Those make me smile every time I see them, and she really brought them to life.

Great idea with the resort loop! As much as I love the monorail (and I love it a ton), it's much cooler to have the two different designs. Tell your friend the shoes are incredible.

Also, let me know how the backpack works out. I'm looking for a small bag, and backpacks are soooo convenient. And elephants are my favorite animal and the symbol of my family in my sorority!!

I love all your photos. Will you post pictures of your room when you get to Florida? I'd love to see how you organized it since I'm a big organizer too!

Those are some cool-looking shoes! I can't believe this girl has NEVER been to Disney. First off, you should invite her down; second off, she really captured the place well in those two little shoes and I love how she added the monorail dialogue to the sides of the monorail tom. And I'm absolutely in love with her drawing of the castle, so pretty and adorable! You are going to be strutting around Disney in style. ::yes::

Omg. Those toms. They are aaaammmmmaaaazzziiiiiiinnnngggg!!!

I'm loving your pretrip/premove to Disney for the College Program...

My DD - 18 wants to do the DCP, so all the information that your sharing with us is very interesting, thanks. She's in the middle of "Legally Blonde" Opening night is tomorrow night so after she finishes with the show I want her to read your report. :thumbsup2

She also wants to get a Tattoo on her left wrist and so I would love a little more feed back about how Disney feels about tattoo's?

Thanks for writing this!!!

Thank you. I can't get over how fabulous she did. I feel like no one where I live appreciates them so I can't wait to get to Disney and show the people who will really love them.

I know, I have never actually bought one full price. I hate buying from the website because I think $90 for a bag is OUTRAGEOUS vera shopping actually sparked my love for eBay because that purse sells for about $70-$80 brand new with tags and this one cost me $25 (still a little pricey but I get my use out of them for sure) and most people who sell them sell them in brand new or next to new condition.

The balloons are my favorite too!!! I can;t get over the front of that shoe. I just love it so much.

When I got them in the mail my mother asked why I bought two different shoes for, she said I was going to look silly walking around with them, I'm glad to hear that they don't look that silly!!!

I have used it a few times on bike rides and it can fit A TON. I like the idea of a backpack for the parks because the side strap vera I usually use can sometimes rub my neck the wrong way. So far I LOVE this one, much better than one of the draw string bags as well because the straps are more comfortable.

I will definitely post pictures of how the room comes together when i get all settled it. I will do a full apartment tour as well for anyone who is interested.

Thank you. I will tell her you said so!!! She was really nervous that she would have done something wrong, it was her first pair of Disney shoes ever and I think she did such an amazing job. I can't wait to strut my stuff in Disney!!!

Aren't they?! I love them so much.

Thank you :goodvibes

A local theater around me is doing Legally Blonde!!! I hope she enjoys it. I can't wait to get back into theatre and rehearsals. I miss it so much. If she has any questions feel free to ask, I'd love to help out.

I don't know much about their policy on tattoos yet. I know that they have to be covered at all times (watches are NOT acceptable form of covering them, I asked) They offer certain costume pieces to help cover them but from what I was told those include pants and long sleeves which would not cover it. You can get makeup for it, I know of a few lines of makeup to cover it up but they can be kind of expensive. I do know that she would not be able to work in the food industry or at the BBB and I assume certain areas of entertainment (I covered mine for my audition just incase) for allergy reasons I'm assuming(?) As of right now that's about all I know. If I find out anything more I will let you know!!!

Thank you for sharing. Your Tom's are adorable. Congratulations on the CP.

Thank you, thank you, thank you :goodvibes

Really enjoy reading this...thanks so much for sharing

Thank you so much!!! and thanks for reading along :goodvibes

I come to you today with yet another Bed Bath and Beyond update!!! (Obsessed much? Haha)

Yesterday was a VERY eventful day. I got up bright and early to go get my LASIK eye surgery done. My father has health insurance that covers basically the entire procedure and since I am moving to Florida and running out of contacts we figured WHY NOT? I am so amazed by the results, like I have no idea how it works but I am SO GLAD that it does. I have had glasses since the second grade and it’s crazy waking up and not reaching for them.

After that I came home and slept for a while because my eyes were really irritated. Andy got hoe from work and we went out grocery shopping for our Tennessee vacation (which we leave on Sunday for). We LOADED up on snacks and it proves to be a good car ride. It was also my Pa’s birthday so we ran out to get cake and ice cream.

After we had a celebratory Birthday dinner Ma and Pa had to go to a band concert for my sister’s fiancé. So Andy and I rode our bikes about 3 or 4 miles to our nearest Bed Bath and Beyond. Getting exercise as well as tons of (pink) stuff.

So here’s the looting of this week.

First up was a set of bed risers, these were a going away gift from Andy’s Dad. I figured I am going to need all the storage space possible AND who doesn’t want a high bed like a princess.

IMG_8936.jpg

I looked a few reviews of these online to make sure there were no issues. I have heard of tons of college kids getting these (my college wouldn’t allow us to have them, dumb). The only issue I ran into was that people had a certain problem with a certain brand of them, they said that the plastic shattered over time, sometimes even during the middle of the night. Can you imagine, sleeping peacefully and then all of a sudden WHAM!!! Your bed falls 7 inches. Reading into it further I read about how it was because it was kind and queen size beds that they were trying to elevate. Ummmm, no duh they broke, they are made for like a dorm bed.

I took them out of the package just to check it out. This specific set is heavy duty plastic so I think I’ll be ok.

IMG_8937.jpg

I had a coupon that if I spent $15 (tax not included) I would get $5 off and the bed risers were 14.99 so I also picked up a Disney reusable shopping bag for $1 to make the minimum price.

I figured that from time to time I am going to have to take the shuttle to the grocery store (I won’t have a car there but most of my roommates will) So when I am going alone I’ll have the bags to take shopping with me so I can stock up and not be afraid of them breaking PLUS their Disney.

IMG_8941.jpg

I got them both for $13 pretty good deal if you ask me!!!

With my high bed I am going to need some under the bed storage so I picked up an under the bed cloth drawer ( obviously it too had to be pink)

IMG_8938.jpg

It is actually a really decent size, much bigger than I thought it would be and it’s compact, perfect for sitting in a suitcase!!! And we all know how much I like my compact items.

IMG_8939.jpg

I figured I can use it to store my sweaters and hoodies until it gets cold enough to use them. Let’s be real my Buffalonian skin will probably not need them until like December.

I used a coupon on this as well it was $14.99 so obviously I had to get another shopping bag.

IMG_8940.jpg

I also have a Rapunzel one that Andy bought me a while back that I use ALL THE TIME. I basically take it everywhere with me.

Aside from that a I got some more Space Bags!!! I found a coupon (I kind of LOVE coupons as of recent) in the paper for a wholesale club in the area that had a 7 piece set on sale for $14 that’s cheaper than the deal I found on eBay!!!

IMG_8930.jpg

So now in total I have 10 of them, I thought that the ones that I had were big. But this one came with BIGGER ones

IMG_8931.jpg

The three different sizes, I cannot get over how big they are.

IMG_8932.jpg

The biggest size is so big

IMG_8933.jpg

I figured the two of them would b perfect for bath towels, pillows, my comforter and bulky sweaters. I just have so many I don’t even know what to put in them at this point!!! I’m sure once I actually get to packing I will have no problem filling them haha.

My beautiful pile

IMG_8934.jpg

In Disney mail news I FINALLY received my postcard from Disney!!! It’s basically just an official Welcome into the DCP. From what I gather a lot of the people who were accepted on the first day (like I was) never received their postcard. I read on the facebook page if you send Disney and email with your address they will gladly send you one. So I did just that and this arrived yesterday as well. She’s a beauty isn’t she?!

photo-7.jpg

In other not so fun news, all my roommates as well as Ryan, have received their new hire paperwork. Which is basically you just tell you life and information to Disney and takes 12 years to fill out. In order to do so you need login name a password, well I never got it. Everyone I know got it three weeks ago or so and are still not done filing it out yet. I am getting nervous 18 days out and I still can’t log into the site. I called Disney on Wednesday but they DCP people who would be the ones to help me are “out of the office on a team bonding until next Monday”. AHHHHH, I got out of town before they get back and don’t really want to spend my vacation filling out paper work. Blah. They use to just send it to your in a folder and you would fill it out and bring it to check in with you. In an effort to go green they made EVERYTHING online. It’s so frustrating because I feel like it’s so unreliable. It’s just a little stressful but I am trying to remain calm. After all I’M MOVING TO DISNEY IN 18 DAYS.

That’s all the updating I have for you today. Thanks for reading!!!

Yay - 18 days, well, 17 by now. :woohoo: Only 21 days until I arrive in WDW but unfortunately, I'll have to come home 13 days later. :sad2:

Ha! Pink bed lifts - that's so great that they come in YOUR color. AND more space bags... more fun with plastic bags.

How awesome that you got Lasik. That will be handy to not have to get contact refills.

I hope you have your mind put to ease on Monday when someone can get back to you regarding your paperwork. At least you received your postcard so you know you are "confirmed" :goodvibes

Wow! You and Bed, Bath and Beyond is really becoming one interesting relationship while preparing to movie to Florida. I swear, the things Disney does to you... But it looks like you made some more worthwhile purchases. I love all the Disney shopping bags! You should definitely post a picture of your Rapunzel bag if you get the chance.

:thumbsup2 to your Disney mail news! So cool to know that you get special postcards when you join the DCP. I hope you'll get your login info to fill out your paperwork soon, but I wouldn't worry. I'm sure you'll have time to fill it all out (:

Wow, it seems like Bed Bath and Beyond is like your new best friend!

You new Disney reusable bags are awesome. I love them!

Oh no :( I can’t believe you still haven’t gotten the paperwork yet. I am crossing my finger for you. I hope it comes soon!

Those Toms are sooooo cute! I would totally buy them if they were in stores... I especially love the Castle one, she's an amazing artist! :goodvibes

I also love the Disney bags. I got some with the Fab 5 on them but I like the princesses better!!

That paperwork sounds really stressful! That's weird that there's no one to help you in the CP office

That's great that you got the Lasik thing! It'll be so much easier! I have terrible eyes too and I recently got contacts after having glasses since the first grade! It's weird not having them on!

LESS THEN 2 WEEKS UNTIL YOU MOVE TO DISNEY!!!! :dance3: :dance3: party:
:hyper:   :woohoo:

Bed Bath & Beyond is the greatest place ever! Hubby and I have been there so often in the past year. I have slim hangers too, but I bought them from Costco. They REALLY save so much space. I can't believe that so many of my dresses can hang up in just a SECTION of the little armoire thing that we have.

Um, WOW. Your Toms are just awesome! That castle is amazing!!!

Ooo, you got Lasik? I wish I had the nerves to do that. I think it'd bother me that I'm awake during the procedure. I also heard a few bad stories of the aftermath depending on which surgery was done. I don't know that I can handle something that has to do with my eyes even though I've had other surgeries before for health reason (but I was asleep for them!).

Can't believe you will soon be there!

18 days seem to have flown. i can't believe I have been away so long. Only 6 left!!! Which means your trip is so soon, I hope things are getting exciting on your part.

BB&B is amazing, they just really get me. Everything is matchy matchy. Perfect. Now that I look at it, I feel like I might have gone a little crazy with the space bags haha they are everywhere and they are soring a lot more than I had planned on. Oh well I am putting them to good use slowly but surely.

I was amazed on vacation when we were driving especially, I could see EVERYTHING. I call them my new HD eyes :rotfl:

BB&B and I are BFFs haha.

You were right. I got it in time and it is all already filled out. Phew. Relief.

But really, I am obsessed. I'm o glad that my move has fallen around that of back to school. SO MANY COUPONS!!!

The first one I had worked so well for so long and is still going strong. I used the princess one on vacation and it ripped. I hope they will exchange it!!!

Thank you, it did finally come. It wasn't nearly as bad as everyone made it sound but it was a TON of reading.

Thank you!!! I can't wait to wear them around the parks.

I wish I would have gotten the more plastic type ones, I feel like they might have held up better (the princess one already has a hole).

After wearing my glasses for 2 and a half weeks before the procedure I totally know where you are coming from!!! Granted I wasn't wearing them for a long long time I just got in the habit of reaching for them every morning, not any more haha

SO SOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad to hear first hand that they do the job well. I can't wait to get in and get all set up.

Thank you. The castle is my favorite part. Pictures don't even do them justice.

I was 100% so scared that something was going to go wrong. All I kept thinking was WHAT IF I NEVER SEE DISNEY AGAIN? I mean really of all the things to never see maybe Disney shouldn't be SO high up on my list... the only reason I feel like I went through with it is because my sister and mother have both have it done in the past and have done nothing but rave about it.

It's all happening so fast. I can't wait to get there and start living the Disney life!!!

Hello Everyone!!! I’m so happy to be back and writing. After a much needed and enjoyed family vacation and a few quick goodbyes I am here to fill everyone in on my whereabouts in the moving world.

The past few days I have spent saying some tearful goodbyes. The day we got back from vacation I woke up nice and early and headed to Niagara Falls where most of my amazing friends were working on a children’s musical this summer. I had to say goodbye to three of the most important people in my life. Keirten who was my baby sister in our Production of Little Women, Mike who has been my stage partner for literally EVERYTHING in college and possibly my closest friend and Sean who I can’t imagine not having in my life. Let’s just say there we lots of VERY LONG hugs. I am going to miss everyone so much but they promised lots of phone calls and skype dates in return I promised postcards and presents.

I just got back today from two days with my best friend in the entire world Julie. She is one of those friends that is more like family, it’s sad because with both of use working and her living so far away I haven’t seen her since April. Silly school, making me such great friends who come from all over!!! I am going to miss her more than I can say but she promised a visit and I can’t wait for it.

So I don’t know if I remember saying where I was headed before I left, so just incase we went to Tennessee/Dollywood. Hiking, cabin, views, rides, fun and family. Did I mention VIEWS?

AzdAM5tCMAAvh0b.jpg

They weren’t kidding when they call them the Smokey Mountains!!! It was beautiful.

Let’s start off with some Disney Store purchases. Here in Buffalo the closest Disney store to us is either NYC or Canada, so I was delighted to find out that there was not only a Disney store but a Disney OUTLET right down the street from where we were staying in Tennessee!!!

We stopped by one day before heading out to Dollywood and I picked up this steal of a deal towel on clearance for cheap with an additional 30% off so it was around $6, I almost picked up the same towel for almost $20 at the store right before we left. GLAD I DIDN’T…

IMG_8989.jpg

Danielle (my older sister) went back right before we left to come home and I had her pick up this cute cup for me to take to use in the apartment/near the pool. After all I am basically an official member of the Mickey Mouse Club now

IMG_9001.jpg

While we were in Dollywood wandering through the shops (not everything jumped out at me like it does in Disney so I was doing really well not spending money) I was drawn into a store because of air conditioning and Vera Bradley on look at the price tags and I remember why I buy mine used from eBay but that’s another story…

On out way out I passed the coolest and BIGGEST suitcase I have ever seen in my life. I checked the price tag and thought I had to be a joke it was just under $50 all the suit cases I have seen this size back home are easily $80 and up. Needless to say I had to snatch it up. Also, it goes with my pink so that was a major plus!!!

AzZ54_1CUAI6A6E.jpg

Other things I have gotten my hands on recently include, can you believe it MORE THINGS FROM BB&B, we got home and there was another 20% off coupon at my house as well as at Andy’s house. WOOO HOOOOOO do they know how to keep me coming back or what?! So I picked up another set of the slim hangers. I have SCOWERED every Disney packing list online to create my own and all people talk about it the number of hangers you will want to have with you. I have tons of sundresses and crew necks to hang up so I figured I might as well have too many then too few.

Another must have are mattress pads. I bought a kind of cheapo one from BB&B because my family has stock piled these things from years of college so I have this new one as well as 2 or 3 egg crate ones as well. I am also use to sleeping on basically cardboard, as a child I could sleep anywhere and never get sore, luckily that is still pretty true and my beautiful space bags should help to compact the size as well. I’m not planning on squishing them until a night or two before though because I don’t want to kill them haha.

IMG_9002.jpg

One important things I have learned from packing lists, beds are regular twin NOT XL like some colleges are. Luckily my beds at college were also regular twins so I am saving money on sheets.

Today I went to the dollar store to buy a few more things that I’ll need (and some maybe not so necessary but still necessary things. Such as, Disney Princess tissues!!!

IMG_8996.jpg

IMG_8995.jpg

Also and Ariel magic towel!!!! I love these things, it must be my inner 5 year old

IMG_8990.jpg

When I got home the packing began, I have been REALLY putting this off, like really. I hate the idea of packing because if I pack everything at once I will have a shortage of clothes and it’s just such a hassle. I figured while everything was out I’d at least get a start on it.

First up bathroom towels (4), hand towels (2) and washcloths (2), hoodies (about 7 or 8) half my collection of knee high tube socks (I’m obsessed) jeans (4 or 5 pairs) and northfaces (3)

IMG_8986.jpg

I was amazed at how perfectly this one shrunk down, perfectly suit case sized!!!

IMG_8987.jpg

I was going through stuff at Andy’s house that ended up there after we moved back from school and I came across these coasters my mother gave us when we moved into our house up at school, I figured why not take them along with me?!

IMG_8997.jpg

After I get into packing, I like really get into it. It’s like Tetris BUT BETTER. I love making things have a specific place and it’s for some reason just really fun for me, weird right?

First up was all of my organizational stuff

IMG_8994.jpg

While at Andy’s I also found this pink crate that I have had forever to take with me (because it matches all my other pink so why not?!) I managed to put all my bathroom stuff in here really strategically along with my bed risers which I took out of the box because it was taking up too much excess space and I was able to put stuff inside the risers for now. Packing solutions!!!

IMG_8991.jpg

My mother had the brilliant idea of putting it inside a space bag to keep it all from falling out during the move, how smart of her!!! Also I bought so many space bags there’s no way I am going to use them all… To secure it all I put my bargain buy towel on top to keep is stuffed down.

IMG_8992.jpg

inside the plastic bag it went

IMG_8993.jpg

and then sluuuuuuurp, there goes the air!!! Those odds and ends aren’t going anywhere!!!

IMG_8998.jpg

For the heck of it I also threw all my shampoo and things inside of a space bag as well, rather then spending money on Gallon sized ziplocks and having the shampoo explode I vacuumed sealed it so they can’t open (once again, I purchased SO MANY space bags)

IMG_8988.jpg

At this point I was feeling the weight of this suite case, I decided to weight it 52 pounds… man it can only be 50. My mom said they might let it slide but I am not really willing to pay the overage charges in the case that they say no. I rearranged some things. Took the pink basket out, threw in one set of hangers and a few shoes. 49.5 pounds. PERFECT!!!

IMG_9000.jpg

So one suitcase down with SO MUCH STUFF. 1 more large one to go, 1 smaller sized one and a duffle bag (two carry on sized bags) I can feel my packing worried slipping away!!!

6 days to go, I am freaking out. Today I equated it to Rapunzel when she first gets out of her tower so excited that she doesn’t know what to do with herself and so terrified for what a head. I can’t wait to just get there and jump right in!!!

Those Space Bags are INCREDIBLE! Wow, I can't believe how much stuff they can hold and how little space they take up! I will definitely be keeping that idea in the back of my head when I do my DCP :goodvibes

Aww just reading about those goodbyes makes me sad!! Everyone is so excited for you, though. I can't wait to hear about all of your adventures!!! It's insane that you're leaving in 6 DAYS!!!! Wow. :yay:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your new suitcase. It is sure purty! I can relate to your organization and packing (and of course the matching colors!) .... 6 days to go - how exciting!!

Your photo of the Smokey mountains outside your hotel door was beautiful. :flower3:

Happy packing and I wish you all the best as you start your new life adventure!

What great finds at the Disney Outlet!

Those space saver bags are amazing! I can't believe you fit so much stuff into such a small space! BTW, just in case you didn't know, you can bring a whole stack of coupons to Bed Bath & Beyond to use at once, so if you have 5 items, you can have 5 coupons. Plus, they take expired ones as well. The dates on them don't matter at all, just in case you know people who have stockpiles of 'em.

Aww, it's so cute how you compared your feelings to Rapunzel!

Glad you are back on the dis! I missed your updates!

I'm glad you had a great time on your trip. And the Disney outlet makes it even better!

It seems like the space bags are doing well, as to fitting a bunch of stuff into your suitcases!

I hope to see you down in WDW. I leave TODAY! I’m just not looking forward to the 22 hour drive. Are we still meeting up to go on ToT?
