A silly or strange question I know.

O.K. here goes, I was wondering if anyone who has stayed at the All star movies can answer this for me. I am one of those weird people who needs to have the hum of a fan or airconditioner to help me sleep. It's not the breeze or air itself but the small steady noise. Now usually I'm o.k. because most airconditioners in hotels do the trick, I also bring my own pillow both husband and I are use to using 2 when we sleep and sometimes I plain old don't care for the ones you get at hotels. of course being extremely tired at the end of a day usually helps in this area too. Just wondering though we always sleep with the room cool or cold too just want to make sure or know what I'm in for. Thanks

I take a sound machine with me when I travel. It masks the noise of the room next door, or even, the noise from the hallway. I got mine from Sharper Image, but I'm sure there are other places to locate them. I love the white noise.

I also turn up the AC in my room when I travel. I love to be cool at night!

I can't answer you questions about the All-Stars. I've never stayed there. Sorry.

Marie

It's been a few years since we stayed at ASMo but as I recall the AC was very quiet. I would recommend bringing one of those sound machines or a small fan. HTH.:)

As I remember ALLSTARS have the newer air conditioners that are more quiet then the old style units that sit below the windows like in CBR. We are a family that would rather have the loud hum also to get the afternoon Nap in especially. This seems to be a bigger factor with ouside coridor resort rooms

who needs this hum when they sleep. I use to use a fan but now I use a machine that makes different noises - one of which resembles a fan.

I have stayed at the All Star - it was a long time ago. I think I used the bathroom fan for my noise-maker. But, I wouldn't take any changes if I were you. I take my humming machine with me to Disney.

I cant wait for my husband to get home to read this!!! He tells me Im nuts and that I am probably the only person that needs the humming noise to sleep. Well Im am happy to hear that there are other hummer needers out there. Boy I cant wait to tell him LOL!!!

These posts are so funny they make me feel better too, my husband thinks I'm crazy too but I swear he's just as hooked as me. Are these noise machines expensive? and where can I buy one? Thanks

Do yourself a favor and get a sleep machine or white noise machine. Make sure you listen to it before you buy it, because most have a repeating loop of sound, and you will be able to hear the start and stop of the loop, meaning you will lie awake at night tuning into that change in the noise. I have found personally that Brookstone's has the most consistent noise and is worth the extra you would pay over say Radio Shack's but isn't as expensive as Sharper Image's.

Hey, Alexandra!!

We have a noise machine given to us for Christmas by a friend. The brand is HoMedics and came from Kohl's (a discount store in the midwest) and I happen to know it cost about $20 as I priced them prior to receiving the gift!!

I agree with gizfish, try to upgrade to a nicer model, my husband listens to the "rain" noise and I can tell where the loop starts and it's very annoying!!!!

We have worn out several fans over the years (I used to be a day sleeper, so the poor things ran almost 24/7) and we wanted a noise machine to save our fans. Now, DH insists he has to have both!!!!:earseek: You are definitely not alone!!!::yes::

I have a Homedics sound machine and I love it. They are not very expensive and they do the trick. You might want to invest in one. :)

I need sound to sleep also. I use the
sleep sound generator from Hammacher Schlemmer. The machine is small enough to put in your suitcase. My machine is 11 years old and still working. They still sell it for around $50.00. :D :D

My wife turned me into a white noise junkie 15 years ago.

Are these machines as good as the fan? Because let me tell you a coulple of years ago our fan blew out in the middle of winter.
Try finding a noisey fan then! I had to go to walmart and ask the guy to look in the back , the guy looked at me like I was nuts!!

Any way these machines seem Like a good alternative on vacation. Especially in newer resorts I think they have some kind of motion sensor if no one is moving in the room I think the thermostat goes to a higher temperature setting (to save energy) causing the fan to go off prematurely. I thought the Allstar was like that some kind of motion sensor on the thermostat.

Not like the old days when you can crank the setting down get a nice loud hum and wake up refreshed with frostbite.

Glad to see that I am not alone. I stayed at the All Star Movies last November with my daughter. The AC/Heater unit was pretty quiet, so I used the bathroom fan and it didn't take long to fall asleep because I ran around all day in the parks.

I highly recommend getting a portable "white noise" machine too. I took the cheapo one I had (homedics brand - never worked right!) on our trip in August and it broke down on me mid-trip! We really needed it too to keep from waking up our 1 yr old while we were up after he went to bed. My DH thinks I'm crazy too for needing that noise to sleep better but it really does mask all the noise going on inside and outside your room (or at home). :yo-yo:

Just try taking an afternoon nap at the Wilderness Lodge if your room is near roaring forks. You had better make sure your nap will be done by 5:00pm because the crowd can get noisey. You know what its like if you been there. I dont think a Jet engine could drown out that crowd once the wait staff gets them going.

We use a homedics sound spa at home and it lasted about 4years. We also have a homedics travel spa that works on batteries that we have had forever. We do carry extra batteries just in case. This is the greatest thing for sleeping in any hotel or for our daughter's nap. We love it. My husband would not sleep for a week without it.:o

We ALWAYS take our Brookstone noise machine when we go on vacation anywhere!! That being said, I think you should be aware that the ALL STARS air conditioner does not get colder than 70 degrees (atleast it didn't on the 4x we stayed there). This is one of the reasons I won't go back. I like to sleep in frigid temperatures (I'm talking 60 degrees). Things could have changed, because it has been 3 yrs. since I've been to the AS resorts. Just thought I'd give you a heads up!

Just ordered the Sharper Image cdplayer/clock radio/sound soother (20 sounds) for $99 its 9"x6" and will play your fav cd track to wake you up (thatll be one of our Disney classic cds!).

Sharper image

Its factory recondidtioned but it has a 30 return privilege and a 1 year warranty

We never leave home without the noise machine. We started using them when the kids were babies (midday naps) and got hooked. My kids can't sleep without the "ocean." Ours are inexpensive ones made by Norelco. I think Bed, Bath and Beyond carries them.

These are great at WDW because they mask all sound outside the room, also good if you have a sweetie who snores -- helps drown out the irregular snoring sounds. We always crank up the volume at hotels and laugh that the folks in the adjoining rooms are dreaming they are on the Titanic!

Get one of these before your trip and sleep tight.
