A Sensible Dinner - Pearlieq's Journal

Wow, Pearlie!

Sounds like you are really getting in CONTROL!!

I'm very impressed and proud of you!

Just the other day I was thinking that I believe I'm afraid to get to goal. Every time I get within sight, I gain.

That is something I'm working on!

Have a great week!

Hi Pearlie,

You are doing an amazing job. 1/2 of this battle is the mental and emotional baggage that we all carry. Confronting that now is the best thng you can do.

Take care,
Beth

Good morning, Pearlieq! :sunny:

Your food is looking much more well balanced lately. Combine that with the work your trainer suggests to you and you should be kicking more of those lbs to the curb in no time.

You sound so confident, full of energy, and in control! Keep up the AWESOME work. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

10/5/05

OK, bad day is behind me. Shake it off. Focus on moving forward.

Plan for the day:

B: 1/4 of 10" mini pizza, 1 apple
S: 1 SB bar
L: Eggplant Parmesan, Chick'n patty, 2 kiwis
S: 2 carrots, 10 large grape tomatoes, 1/4 cup hummus, 1 egg, 1 whole wheat tortilla, 1 T salsa
D: Chicken Corn Chowder, light english muffin, applesauce
S: 1/2 cup nsa butterscotch pudding

8:30am

--1/4 of 10" mini pizza
--3/4 apple

My apple was kind of yucky. The ones I have are going grainy, so I better hurry up with them before they're a total loss

12:00pm

--1 SB bar.

I'll probably grab lunch in a hour or 90 minutes or so. I've had a productive morning--I've done laundry, dishes, gotten the cleaning supplies organized, paid bills, cut coupons, updated the calendar, and started gathering things for the pet shelter garage sale. It always feels good to be productive!

I'm sorry if I missed you asking earlier, Chris! It's definitely the new center on Indian Trail and it's really nice. I love the indoor walking track and the pools look like lots of fun for the kiddies. The class schedule is pretty nice as well.

1:45pm

--1 eggplant parmesan
--1 chick'n patty
--2 kiwi fruits

Wow, eggplant is not an attractive vegetable. Still, the meal was pretty good, but I'm sure it's going to take some getting used to.

I meet Duane the trainer at 3! I'm still very excited. I've pretty much shaken off the dregs of yesterday's stumble and am feeling confident and hopeful again.

5:00pm

I do believe Duane the trainer is trying to kill me. All we did was some stretching, 2 rounds of squats, and some shoulder presses with a 4lb medicine ball and I felt like Jello! Duane the trainer believes in using one's body weight for resistance. Well, I've got plenty of that!

I did have to crack up each time he referred to my "unique body mechanics". That's one way of putting it... :teeth:

DH should be home in about 40 minutes, so I'm going to shower and deal with some laundry and just go straight for dinner instead of making my snack. We've got a homeowners association meeting tonight. If I'm hungry afterwards I'll eat my snack stuff then.

5:50pm

--1 1/2 cup corn chowder
--3/4 cup shredded chicken
--1 light English muffin
--1/3 serving pita chips
--1/2 cup applesauce

Oof! As I predicted this was a big meal! I'm glad we finally ate it. DH is going to be gone playing poker tomorrow, so I'm going shopping! I'm stoked. I'm sure I'll catch dinner somewhere or make myself something nice. The best part is I won't have to wait on him to eat!

We'll see about a snack later, but at the moment all that soup has got me stuffed!

9:20pm

--2 squares cheese pizza (abt. 1/8 of 10" pizza)
--1/2 cup nsa pudding

Well, the homeowners meeting was fun--we got to see lots of friends and I'm really happy with the people elected to the board. I'm even more happy that Mondo Huge Jerk, who lives on the street behind us, didn't get elected. Example of Mondo Huge Jerk's jerkiness--a homeowner who is Hispanic was discussing a problem with the homeowners association he had over a miscommunication about his shed. Mondo Huge Jerk turns to the woman sitting next to him, my friend, and says "well, maybe if he'd learn English he wouldn't have this problem"! :rolleyes2 The guy was speaking just fine and was perfectly understandable. What a <word not allowable on the DIS>!!! The best of it is Mondo Huge Jerk had to list his qualifications to be a board member and he listed "trustworthy and open minded"!!! Whatever...

I'm just getting a little snack here, then it's off to go upstairs to unwind for bed.

Great plan for the day...looks yummy!

Have a great Wednesday!

You are really doing well in recognizing what you are doing that is getting in the way and trying to get it out of the way. And good for you for going to the new gym and making that move - that is awesome!!!!

Is that by any chance, and I think I asked this already but I didn't make it back after that post, that new facility on Indian Trail???? That is a BEAUTIFUL looking facility on the outside. I would love to go in and check it out sometime but then I'd be jealous!!!!! :)

Keep up the good work girl - you CAN do this!

Keep on
Chris

Good morning, Pearlieq! :goodvibes

It sure looks like planning your meals at the beginnng of the day is working well for you. Too bad you think your trainer is trying to kill you. Just when you were trying to shake up your program. ;) Seriously, I really admire the fact that you are willing to go the extra mile with a trainer and get as much out of exercise as you possibly can get.

You're doing great! Keep up the good work. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

10/6/05

Good morning! I'm a little sore from yesterday--just in my thighs, not my arms, but it isn't too bad. I think I'll take the day today to recover, though. Our scale died. :sad1: I used the gift card my brother got me from Amazon.com to get another one, but it should be at least a week before it arrives. Until then I guess I'll have to use the one at the gym.

Plan for the day:

B: 2 eggs, 2 ww tortillas, 2 T salsa, 1 apple
S: 1 sm banana, 2 t PB, 1 light english muffin
L: 2 Boca burgers, no cheese, 2 kiwifruit, 1 oz baked nacho chips, 1/2 cup yogurt
S: 2 carrots, 3/4 cup grape tomatoes, 1/4 cup hummus
D: Probably Panera--1/2 Asian sesame salad, tomato lentil soup, sourdough bread, 1 T flavored oil for dipping
S: 3/4 cup Cheerios, 1/2 cup 1% milk

8:25am

--2 eggs
--2 ww tortillas
--2 T salsa
--2 apples

I agree, Lesli, planning out my meals is a big help. Knowing what I'm going to be having keeps me from getting caught up in the "what am I going to eat?" circle where I can't decide and wind up too hungry and making bad decicsions.

Thanks for the inspiration to give it a try!

***

I wound up kind of taking the day off today. My thighs are killing me, I had work stuff to do, and I think I had a little diet fatigue. I didn't go nuts or anything, but it was nice not be focusing on it all day.

See you in the AM!!!

Hi Pearlieq!!!

Hope you are having a great Thursday! Sorry to hear that you are sore today, but it is for a good cause!!!! :)

Hope your day goes well!

Keep up the great work

Once again, I'd kill for a Panera's around here ;). Good work with planning food in advance; that's something I need to work on as well.

Have a great day! :)

Hey Pearlique, you wore me out with your description of coralling Diana. Did you figure that into your exercise minutes? I always use a cat toy to get QT. We have a toy that looks like a fishing pole with a fish. Everytime I dangle this before her she comes after it & then I grab her quickly.

hI Pearlie,

The planning your meal thing is going really well for you. Keep up he great work. How did the vet visit go?
Beth

10/7/05

9:00am

--1 bowl cheerios w/raisins & milk

I've got some work stuff to handle this morning, then I'm supposed to meeting with Duane the trainer tonight. The problem is I still hurt! I'm still yelping every time I try to get up from a chair, and I'm a little concerned because I'm doing sorting for the pet sheter garage sale tomorrow and can't afford to be too sore to help. We'll have to see what he says, I guess.

Thanks for asking after the kitties, Beth! The vet actually thinks that Diana is healing up well and that we just need to give her more time for it to resolve completely. So, basically I'm a hypochondriac kitty mom! :teeth:

Plan for the day:

L: 2 boca burgers, 2 kiwis, 2 carrots, 2 T hummus
S: 1 SB bar
S2: 1 banana, 1 string cheese
D: Unknown--maybe veggie meatballs, veggie hot dogs, chili?
S: 1/2 cup nsa pudding or sorbet

2:00pm

--2 boca burgers
--2 kiwis

So far I haven't been all that hungry today. Probably because I've had a couple of big calorie days this week. Maybe it's just my body readjusting itself. I'm leaning towards chili tonight for dinner. I've also got to make 3 apple crisps and some carrot apple cake or muffins. Most of that's going to the bake sale, but a few muffins may stay with DH and I. They are really tasty!

I've got to leave in about 15 minutes for the gym. I'm still hurting, but I took some Advil, so as long as we take it easy I'm hoping it will be OK.

5:30pm

--1 SB bar

I had a good workout, and I'm nice and tired now! We did upper body today--it was hard work, but I'm glad to give my legs a rest. I'm fixing chili for supper--I think we'll have it with oven-roasted potatoes and a little bit of cheese on top. That and some carrots w/hummus ought to make a nice meal!

6:45pm

--1 bowl veggie chili
--2 oz shredded cheddar
--1 1/2 potatoes, roasted
--1/2 can light fruit cocktail

This was a really nice dinner. I love this chili--I'll have to look for it again!

Neither DH nor I are feeling up to doing the kitty baking tonight. I feel really bad, but it will actually probably work out better for the shelter. It's only supposed to get in the mid 50's tomorrow, so I'm not sure they're going to have a really good turnout at the farmers market, especially in the morning. DH and I are going to make a cash donation equal to what our items would have sold for, plus a little more. Assuming I feel better in the morning, I'm still going to go help with the garage sale donations. It's not perfect and honestly I feel awful, but I guess that's that.

9:00pm

--1 plain bagel
--2 oz whipped raspberry cream cheese

I wanted a little extra snack, and was able to get myself a nice treat without going wild. This was really good!

Hi pearlieq!

It sounds like planning meals is really working out for you! :goodvibes Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

Have a wonderful weekend! :sunny:

Hi, Pearlie! Just wanted to stop in and wish you a great weekend! Glad to hear Diana is going to be fine. Have fun working with other similar-minded volunteers tomorrow on sorting stuff for the furbabies!

Have a great day! :sunny:

10/7/05

Since our scale broke I had to weigh myself at the gym. I'll keep doing that until the new scale arrives.

312.0 - Down 4.5 from last week! :cool1:

Planning meals out is a big help, and the extra workouts are making an impact. I'm very hopefuly about getting my big silver clippie before I go! I just need to keep my head in the game and stay focused.

Goals for next week:

1.) Keep workouts up and keep them in the afternoons during prime overeating time whenever possible.
2.) Work to find strategies to stay busy, especially during the afternoon and evening.
3.) Start thinking ahead for strategies to eat healthily while in Vegas.

Wow Pearlieq!! How good are you doing?!?! That is awesome!
So proud of you!!! I definitely find that planning meals out helps me a lot too.
Hope you are getting some relaxation time this weekend!!!

Mike :goodvibes

10/9/05

--11:00am

--3 squares cheese pizza

12:30pm

--1/2 cup butternut squash soup
--2 small baked potatoes with shredded cheese, sour cream, and green onion
--a few crackers
--2 honeycrisp apples
--1/2 cup caramel dip

Mom came over for lunch. We had a pretty good meal. DH and mom liked the soup, I didn't care for it much. The potatoes were very nice on a fall day, though. I loved getting to have green onions! DH hates them so I almost never get them, so it was fun to pile them on!

Mom insisted on making homemade caramel dip. I was skeptical at first (I mean, why bother when it's $2.50 for the tub?) but it was pretty easy and really tasty. I enjoyed a fair portion, but did send all of the leftovers home with her.

The sugar must have really gotten to my mom and DH, they both fell asleep shortly after lunch. Thus, the afternoon was pretty short. DH is actually still fast asleep on the couch. It should be fun when he wakes up and wonders where everyone is!

5:00pm

--1 oz baked nacho chips

7:30pm

--1 green salad w/ranch
--1/2 round Italian bread w/butter
--1/2 portion fettucine alfredo with broccoli

This was so tasty!

9:30pm

--1/4 portion fettucine alfredo
--1 piece chocolate cake
--1/4 round Italian bread

Because I needed more food...

Good morning pearlieq!

Stopping by to WISH you a wonderful Monday! :sunny: Take care and keep up the good work! :cheer2:

10/10/05

--8:30am

--1 1/2 cups leftover fettucine alfredo

11:00am

--2 sm slices Italian bread.

I'm really dragging today--I have no mojo, which is very likely due to the junk I've been eating for the past two days. I just don't feel the motivation to snap out of it at the moment. I'm meeting with Duane the trainer today. I really don't want to, but I will. Maybe I'll get some kind of lift from that. I dunno...

At least it's time to play my favorite game again--TTNW!!!

TTNW: After having gotten up waaay too early and hoofed it to Midway, we should be touching down in Las Vegas around 10:45am local time. We haven't figured out transport to the hotel. Last time we took a cab and the cab was over 30 minutes long! I kept looking for the Fastpass machines...

Once we make it out of the airport we'll be on our way to the Luxor!!! I'm really excited since I've always enjoyed visiting. It will be fun to stay. I chose a room in their towers. I know the pyramid is fun and unique, but I've heard the rooms are smallish, loud, smoky, and they only have a shower instead of a tub/shower. The tower rooms are newer, larger, and have a full soaking tub and shower, which should be very nice!

1:00pm

--2 lc tortillas
--1/2 cup mixed cheese
--1 T barbecue sauce

2:00pm

--1 pad Thai bowl
--1/2 cup peas

TTNW: After having checked in, we'll probably be interested in a meal! I think we'll probably just wander down to the buffet to begin with. I always like to pick up all of the toursit magazined and try to get my bearings. DH is hoping to play in a noon poker tournament, so while he's busy with that I'll get settled in and maybe go check out one of the IMAX films they're showing. They've got one where a camera crew actually sailed the full length of the Nile, which would be really neat to see. They've also got a few others--one about an African safari and another about sharks.

4:45pm

--1 SB bar

I had a great workout with Duane the trainer. I feel fine now, but no telling how tomorrow will feel. I was very challenging work today though--lots of different kind of squats. I must say I'm looking forward to upper body day, just for the break!

TTNW: After DH finishes his poker tournament and we get settled in our room, I'm hoping to make it up to the Stratosphere hotel to catch the 4pm Viva Las Vegas show. I hear it's quite a quintessential "Vegas" show and very good for an afternoon show. I'm definitely looking forward to trying it out.

7:00pm

--3 cheese sticks
--2 sm pieces french bread w/margarine
--1 entree salad w/chopped egg, veggies, and a little cheddar cheese
--3-4 T ranch dressing
--most of a med piece chocolate cake

You know, the funny thing is I had great intentions for this meal, it just didn't quite turn out how it was supposed to. Duane the trainer (I don't know why I insist on calling him that, but it just seems so natural...) suggested I limit carbs after my workouts, which is all well and good, but it's a bit challenging to do low carb and vegetarian. This meal is the result of my misguided attempt to follow his advice. The cake was just kind of a mistake. It was OK, but not really superb. At least the piece wasn't outrageously oversized. Still, I could have done without it.

TTNW: After the show at Stratosphere, we'll catch a cab to downtown Las Vegas for the evening. We'll get dinner at the buffet at Main Street Station and then walk around an enjoy the sights--the Freemont Street Experience, the giant gold nugget at Golden Nugget, the million dollars at Binion's Horseshoe, etc. Should be a fun night!
