9/30/05 - Where did September go?
8:00am
--1/2 cup yogurt
--1/2 cup blueberries
--1 ww english muffin
--1 T PB
Well, it's definitely a fall morning! We finally had to turn the heater on today. Otherwise all is well. I have to make a quick run to Aldi (and maybe Trader Joes) for some baking supplies. After that I'll get the banana bread in the oven and fix up the haystacks while it cooks. The banana bread will be about an hour, so about 10 minutes before it's supposed to be done I'll get started on the oatmeal butterscotch bars so I can pop those right in after the bread. I'll save the pineapple upside down cakes until this evening, because DH likes to help with those. It should be a very light load. Crowds dwindle at the Oct. farmers markets so I don't have to make nearly as much.
Plan for today:
S: South Beach Bar
L: 2 Boca burgers, no cheese, carrot sticks, apple
S: 100 cal bag popcorn, string cheese, and 3/4 cup grapes
D: 1 1/2 cups tomato soup, 1/3 recipe garlic potato croquettes (instant mashed potato mix, 1 1/4 cups water, 1/2 cup 2% mozzarella, 1 beaten egg, and spices mixed together and formed into little patties. The patties are then fried in a little oil (I'm hoping for less than 2 T) until golden. I've never tried these before, so if I screw them up we're having pizza), 3/4 cup steamed broccoli
S: 1/2 cup sf pudding
11:00am
--1 SB bar
11:30am
--2"x2" square of haystack
Well, the haystacks didn't turn out. The butterscotch chips siezed and the whole thing turned into an ugly, crumbly mess. Tasty though. I ate way more than I should have.
My plans for the afternoon just got all jumbled. My goddaughter is having her 16th birthday party this weekend and I called to RSVP and ask if there was anything I could do and now I'm watching her little brother for the afternoon while they run errands. Yeah. I was thinking more like picking up some ice or something.
He's a sweet kid, but very very hyper, and their house is just wall to wall dirt and clutter--it's unpleasant to hang around there. I love them very much and we were once very close, but I can't really say I'm looking forward to this. Luckily DH is meeting me for dinner near their house so at least I have a set deadline to leave.
12:30pm
--1 1/2 oz baked nacho chips
Not exactly what I had planned. They're very tasty, though!
1:45pm
--2 boca burgers, no cheese
2:45pm
--1 apple
I had a really neat afternoon with my godson. It kind of does the heart good to spend time with someone who automatically grabs your hand to cross the street, you know?
I didn't make it to Curves, but I got a very good workout. They were late getting home from school, so I took myself on a 10 minute walk around the neighborhood. Their neighborhood is actually pretty depressing. It's in Naperville, which is a very bourgeois suburb of Chicago. Their house is pretty close to downtown, in an old neighborhood of 30's - 60's bungalows. Well, one by one these little houses are being sold, torn down, and reborn as faux-chateaux with ostentatious stone fronts, enormous square footage (abt 4000 is the norm) and the requisite Brazillian cherry flooring.

They're now past the $1,000,000 mark and are just garish, soulless, and self-indulgent. It just makes me sad to see them pop up one after the other.
But I digress. After they got home I took my godson down to the local park. It was about 5 min walk each way, but the real workout came with running around the playground with him. I haven't been that physical in years--it's so nice to have the physical confidence to say "why not?" and try things out. I played on the swings, the monkey bars, the slides--everything! I even attempted their little rock wall, which I'd never done. It was such a confidence booster to make to the top, not just once but twice.
6:30pm
--3/4 soft breadstick
--1 T whipped butter
--1 sm blueberry muffin
--2 grilled cheese sandwiches
--1 melon wedges
OK, I know it doesn't look it, but this was actually pretty good for me. I did eat the bread at the beginning, but I didn't get fries with my sandwiches, nor did I get dessert, both of which are things I would have done without question in the past.
We took our godson to dinner with us, and then to a place called The Painted Penguin. It's really a great outing for childen--they buy a plaster item (cartoon characters, animals, etc.) and then paint it in whatever colors they choose. The employees then put a coating on it and send it home with them. The best part is that the vast majority of the pieces are under $10. It's such a great deal!
When I got home, I encountered reason #3,457 why I love my DH. He went home after dinner instead of going to The Painted Penguin with us. Since I didn't get it all done earlier, I still had some kitty baking left to do--I figured I'd just burn the midnight oil and get it done when I got home. However, when I got home, DH had made the mini pineapple upside down cakes and run dishes! I don't think he understand how much that meant to me! All I had to do when I got home was the oatmeal bars. He's really a great guy!!!
